Opis:
This article presents research results concerning designation of the scope of segregation of elements by analysing the ingot, designated for hot rolling of long products. The research tests were performed under industrial conditions, during continuous casting production cycle of high carbon steels. From cc ingots with square cross-section of 160 mm samples having the length of 400 mm were collected, out of which two samples were cut up, the so-called templates with the thickness of 20 mm. Segregation of elements was determined based on the quantitative analysis of results performed by using spark spectrometry pursuant to PN-H-04045. Changes in concentrations of elements were analysed along the line, which join the opposite sides of the sample in their half length and pass through the geometric centre of the square cross-section. In the further course of the research study, there was also determined the segregation along perpendicular line up to the surface connecting the core of the cross-section with lateral plane. Designations of element contents were performed at points distanced from each other by approx. 10 mm and situated on the lines. There was found segregation of carbon, sulphur and phosphorus.

Waste management is a challenging problem for most of the countries. The current waste segregation and the collection method are not efficient and cost-effective. In this paper, a prototype is presented for smart waste management. It is also capable of waste segregation at the ground level and providing real-time data to the administrator. Impact and cost analysis of the deployment of smartbin is also presented considering one ward of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. It is clear from that deployment of this smartbin will save about 40% of the current expenditure for that ward.

Experimental observations of the steel morphology as well as measurements of the solutes concentration in the macro-scale were made on the basis of the vertical cut at the mid-depth of the 15-tons steel forging ingot serially produced in one of the steel plant in Poland. Experimental observations of the morphology accompanied by the measurements of the Peclet Number were also made on the cross-section of the continuously cast brass ingots serially produced in the copper / brass industry in Poland. The performed measurements allowed to work out some maps of the alloying elements segregation for the longitudinal section of the steel static ingot and a Growth Law for the columnar grains formation in the brass ingots. The marginal stability criterion has been applied to the last mentioned development / description. Some suggestions for the micro-segregation measurement mode in the columnar structure are derived.

A large population of anther culture-derived barley regenerants and their progeny was tested for allele segregation at 1 isozyme and 8 morphological marker loci. The segregation of genetic markers was examined separately for haploid, diploid and polyploid regenerants. All the 9 analysed genes except al (albino lemma) on chromosome 3 segregated according to the expected 1:1 ratio in the microspore-derived barley population. There was no difference in allele distribution between haploid and diploid regenerants. Among the limited number of 34 analysed tetraploids a significant excess of the dominant allele at locus о (orange lemma) of chromosome 6 was also observed. The recombination frequency between linked genes (n - lk2 on chromosome 1 and r - s on chromosome 7) estimated in the DH population did not differ significantly from recombination rates calculated in F₂ progeny or presented in barley chromosome maps. The phenomenon of gametic selection is discussed in relation to the genotype dependency of anther culture response and procedures used for DH production in barley.

In general, uniform mixing of particles is desirable in the process of particle handling. However, during the charging of sinter feed and upper ore, size segregation must be induced to prevent heat imbalance, ensure bed permeability, and prevent the loss of fine ore. In this study, upper ore charging was simulated using a discrete element method (DEM) to find the optimal method for controlling particle size segregation, and the segregation characteristics in the upper ore bed were investigated when a deflector plate was applied to the charging machine. The degree of vertical segregation increased when a deflector plate was applied, and it was confirmed that the segregation direction in the upper ore bed can be controlled by adjusting the charging direction of the upper ore by using a deflector plate. In order to apply this method directly to the actual process, further study is needed to understand the influence of the characteristics of the deflector plate such as length and angle.

Immigration is one of the most contentious fields of contemporary European urban policy. While the development of urban segregation is well documented in traditional immigration countries with population register data, there is a lack of detailed research on population dynamics in many countries and cities across Europe. This article examines ethnic residential segregation in Czechia in the period after the economic crisis of 2008. Special attention is paid to the trajectories of individual cities and their position in the urban hierarchy. Longitudinal population register data are used and segregation indicators of unevenness and exposure are computed for the largest cities using a detailed spatial grid. The results show a broad picture of decreasing segregation despite the continuously growing number of immigrants in the country. While the economic crisis temporarily halted immigration, the spatial patterns of immigrant dissimilarity did not change and more-established immigration gateway cities experienced an increase in spatial isolation. In the conclusion, the article calls for further discussion on ethnic residential segregation in post-socialist cities.

The segregation of elements in two corrosion resistant cast steel grades Cr18-Ni9-Mo, in castings of wall thickness: 7, 15 and 30 mm were performed. The results indicate the analogous path of curves of the content of Fe, Cr, Ni, Mo and C, in walls of various thickness. Decrease in the content observed in the delta ferrite Fe (2 to 3 wt. %), Ni (from 3.5 to 5 wt. %) and C (about 1 wt. %), where the Mo and Cr increased their content of 2% wt. %, and about 6% wt. respectively in the case of the two test cast. For the test steel Q2 with a carbon content 0.054 wt. % were found carbides in the form of white precipitates on the grain boundary of delta ferrite. This resulted in the occurrence of the peaks in the lines of the element distribution analysis especially for molybdenum, iron and carbon, as shown in the diagrams for various segregation of wall thickness.

Wyniki wskazują, analogiczny przebieg krzywych zawartości Fe, Cr, Ni, Mo i C, zebranych w różnych grubościach ścianek.

Colombia’s capital city Bogota was founded in 1538 by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, a Spanish Conquistador who came down from the north to reach the Sabana de Bogotá, i.e. the intermountain plateau (and “Savannah”) around Bogota. Their settlements were dispersed across the plateau, though only rarely did these encompass fl at areas suitable for crop-growing. Today’s Bogota is the largest metropolitan area in the country, with more than 8 million residents currently, and occupying a considerable part of the extensive high plateau. Processes which have resulted in Bogota’s present spatial form and its – in some ways – unique functional and spatial structure, are manifold, and highly complex. They include environmental, political, social and economic factors. Nevertheless, among all of these cause-and-effect processes, institutionalized segregation (called estratifi cación in Colombia) is the reason why rigid spatial structures are maintained, while the spontaneous and uncontrolled movement of groups of people within the city and from one social class to another is restricted.Colombia’s capital city Bogota was founded in 1538 by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, a Spanish Conquistador who came down from the north to reach the Sabana de Bogotá, i.e. the intermountain plateau (and “Savannah”) around Bogota. Genetical analyses were conducted to find linkages and the locus of the gene calf on the Pisum chromosome map. The recessive, pleiotropic gene calf (enlarged and undulated leaflets, stipules, flowers and pods, plant sterile), artificially induced (the initial line-Large Podded G-20, the mutagene-DES and NMU) was described by Sharma in 1975. An identical mutant gene at the same locus was isolated in our research (the initial line - cv. Pegro, the mutagene - fast neutrons). Two lines were included in the Pisum gene bank - the type line for the gene calf - Wt 15873 and the representative line - Wt 16024. In linkage studies the representative line was crossed with tester lines bearing gene markers. Analyses of dihybrid segregation in F₂ generations revealed linkages of the gene calf with chromosome 2 markers. Two isozymic markers helped to reveal the calf locus on chromosome 2 with the following gene order: Orp - Calf - K - Pgm-p - Fum. This is in agreement with the current Pisum linkage map.

In the course of homogenizing annealing of aluminium alloys being cast continually or semi-continually it appears that chemical inhomogenity takes off within separate dendritic cells (crystal segregation). It is about a diffusion process that takes place at the temperature which approaches the liquid temperature of the material. In that process the transition of soluble intermetallic compounds and eutectic to solid solution occurs and it suppresses crystal segregation significantly [1]. The temperature, homogenization time, the size of dendritic cells and diffusion length influences homogenizing process. The article explores the optimization of homogenizing process in terms of its time and homogenizing annealing temperature which influence mechanical properties of AlZn5,5Mg2,5Cu1,5 alloy.

In this paper, the effect of changes the parameters of heat treatment on the structure and the degree of elements segregation was determined, in the context of corrosion resistance of ductile iron Ni-Mn-Cu, containing 7.2% Ni, 2.6% Mn and 2.4% Cu. In the condition after casting, castings of austenitic matrix and 160HBW hardness were obtained. The achieved castings were soaked at 450, 550 and 650°C for 4, 8 and 12 hours, then cooled down at the ambient air. In most cases, the heat treatment resulted in a change in the castings matrix, had the consequence of increasing their hardness in comparison to raw castings. Increasing the temperature and prolonging soaking time resulted in increasing the degree of transformation of austenite, while reducing the degree of elements segregation. This led to the formation of slightly bigger number of pitting due to corrosion, but not so deep and more evenly distributed in comparison to raw castings. Wherein the results of corrosion tests show that heat treatment of castings did not significantly change their corrosion resistance in comparison to raw castings, in contrast to the significant increase in mechanical properties.

The effect of ultrasonic vibration on the microstructure, elimination of casting defects and distribution of alloyed elements at macro-scale during solidification of 35CrMo steel has been investigated. Results show that ultrasonic treatment has a significant effect on the grain refinement, especially the fragmentation of the secondary dendritic arms of the studied steel. Density of the casting defects decreases and the alloyed elements are seen more even distribution at macro-scale with the introduction of ultrasonic vibration. Meanwhile, the ultrasonic vibration works more efficiently in the longitudinal direction than in the radial, and its efficiency declines with the distance from the radiator increasing.

The structural zones of the forging ingot have been distinguished. Some segregation defects within these zones have been described. An observation of the defects has been carried out with the use of scanning microscopy and scanning acoustic microscopy. Some defects revealed by the scanning acoustic microscopy have been subjected to the 3D computer visualization. A difference between localization and difference between morphology of carbides precipitated in the columnar structure and equiaxed structure has been shown. A given ingot was subjected to the plastic deformation with different reforging degree. The samples were taken from different segments of the reforged ingot. A density was determined for each ingot segment. A degree of consolidation was determined after ingot reforging. Once again the scanning acoustic microscopy was applied to determine the annihilation of the segregation defects in the forging ingot structure. A new definition of the consolidation factor after the reforging has been proposed.

The investigations were inspired with the problem of cracking of steel castings during the production process. A single mechanism of decohesion – the intergranular one – occurs in the case of hot cracking, while a variety of structural factors is decisive for hot cracking initiation, depending on chemical composition of the cast steel. The low-carbon and low-alloyed steel castings crack due to the presence of the type II sulphides, the cause of cracking of the high-carbon tool cast steels is the net of secondary cementite and/or ledeburite precipitated along the boundaries of solidified grains. Also the brittle phosphor and carbide eutectics precipitated in the final stage solidification are responsible for cracking of castings made of Hadfield steel. The examination of mechanical properties at 1050°C revealed low or very low strength of high-carbon cast steels.
