Opis:
Taking as a starting point the concept of 'second society' understood as a system of informal rules organizing social life under real socialism, the author analyzes the processes of systemic transformation from the point of view their outcomes for civil society emergence. The first part of the article is devoted to the reconstruction of informal institutional structures which seem characteristic for the 'second society'. The second part deals with most crucial aspects for the formation of civil society as a system. These are processes undergoing in the sphere of economic interests, their political representations and in the sphere of symbolic representations. This paper considers methodological issues of awareness during adult second language acquisition (SLA). Specifically, the paper deals with (a) the issue of instructional orientations, (b) the issue of biases in knowledge measurement, and (c) the issue of reactivity in the online think-aloud protocol. Detailed reviews of prominent SLA research that has investigated the possibility of implicit SLA reveal (1) that the instruction on implicit learning does not guarantee that learners engage in the implicit learning mode, (2) that the majority of SLA research has employed only tests of “explicit learning” such as untimed grammaticality judgment, and (3) that there is some evidence that the online think-aloud protocol causes negative reactivity particularly when it is metalinguistic in nature.

The paper describes second order generalized integrator (sogi) which is specialized in band-pass filtering and orthogonalization of periodic signals. Modifications of the structure and the influence of parameters on the system performance is described. The article highlights the particular importance of model discretization method in the practical implementation, as well as reviews estimation methods of the: amplitude, frequency, offset and phase angle of the periodic signal. Examples of simulation and experimental results are presented.

General Francisco Franco established his dictatorship in Spain in 1939 after winning the Civil War fought against the democratic Republican government. The same year, the Second World War broke out. The Caudillo wanted his country to remain neutral, but Spain soon moved forward to the status of non-belligerence: Franco backed Mussolini and Hitler on the level of propaganda, and he also sent voluntary troops to help the Germans, although he also maintained relations with the Allies. Later, the country returned to the status of neutrality. The aim of my article is to highlight the main features of the Spanish attitude and the government’s diplomatic maneuvers between the Axis powers and the Allies, paying special attention to Franco’s possibilities and doubts.

A significant number of cases of clinical canine epilepsy remain difficult to control in spite of the applied treatment. At the same time, the range of antiepileptic drugs is increasingly wide, which allows efficient treatment. In the present paper we describe the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of the newer antiepileptic drugs which were licensed after 1990 but are still not widely used in veterinary medicine. The pharmacokinetic profiles of six of these drugs were tested on dogs. The results of experimental studies suggest that second generation antiepileptic drugs may be applied in mono- as well as in poli- treatment of canine epilepsy because of the larger safety margin and more advantageous pharmacokinetic parameters. Knowledge of the drugs’ pharmacokinetics allows its proper clinical appliance, which, in turn, gives the chance to improve the efficiency of pharmacotherapy of canine epilepsy.

This paper systematically examines how second-generation Koreans as children of economic migrants, as Protestants, and as racial minorities shape their practice of religion in West-Germany on an institutional level and on membership level. It's based on a survey of second generation Korean German adults in Korean congregations in the pluralistic religious landscape and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. As second generation Koreans entered young adulthood, they began to vocalize displeasure over their parents and immigrant churches. Intergenerational tensions over themes like individualism, cultural differences in worship-styles and church leadership, and questioning of the church (and family) hierarchies began to surface. The intergenerational tensions and interactions go along with institutional change of the Korean churches. But in contrast to previous studies my survey shows that second generation Korean Germans haven’t failed to transmit their cultural and religious tradition. A typology of four strategies (Member Level: Self-determination/mobility, Displacement; Institutional Level: Separation/differentiation, Cooperation)shows, how second generation Koreans find their way of preserving the cultural heritage of the first generation and develop a faith of their own in new social spaces.

Following the results presented in [21], we present an efficient approach to the Schur parametrization/modeling of a subclass of second-order time-series which we term p-stationary time-series, yielding a uniform hierarchy of algorithms suitable for efficient implementations and being a good starting point for nonlinear generalizations to higher-order non-Gaussian nearstationary time-series.

The term positive psychology has recently entered the field of Second Language Acquisition. The article explains the meaning of the term, presents the definitions of positive psychology, its objectives and history. The key part of the article demonstrates the importance of positive psychology in the second language acquisition presenting many connections between the two fields. The author recommends that positive education is introduced in every school and every foreign language classroom.
Psychologia pozytywna jest stosunkowo nowym pojęciem w przyswajaniu języka drugiego. Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie tego pojęcia, zaprezentowanie definicji psychologii pozytywnej, jej założeń i historii. Zasadnicza część artykułu przedstawia znaczenie psychologii pozytywnej w akwizycji języka drugiego prezentując wiele związków pomiędzy obiema dziedzinami nauki. Autorka zachęca do tego, aby wszystkie szkoły oraz klasy językowe wprowadziły pozytywne podejście do nauczania.

The article discusses the late Middle English replacement of the ordinal number other by the Romance loanword second. The major cause of the change was the ambiguity and polyfunctionality of the older native word. The study is based on the language material from the Dictionary of Old English Corpus, the Middle English Compendium and the Anglo-Norman Dictionary.

Our purpose in this paper is to show how the output of academic student-writers demonstrates the different ways in which they react to the discipline’s discoursal demands and how that, in turn, forms their writer identity. We also argue that the current Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theory fails to adequately integrate notions of second language (L2) academic writer identity and the social contexts in which L2 writers produce their texts.
Naszym celem w tym artykule jest pokazanie, w jaki sposób twórczość studentów akademickich wskazuje na różne sposoby reagowania wobec dyskursywnych wymagań danej dyscypliny i jaki, z kolei, ma to wpływ na formownie się pisarskiej tożsamości studentów. Twierdzimy również, że obecna teoria nabywania drugiego języka (SLA) nie jest w stanie skontaminować pojęcia tożsamości autora akademickiego piszącego w drugim języku z kontekstami społecznymi, w których te teksty powstają.

Children with developmental dyslexia and at its risk have difficulties in the acquisition of foreign languages, especially non-transparent English. The problems of such pupils concern various aspects of the language system but in particular relate to the ability to read and spell. The research literature dedicated to effective preventative methods and dyslexia treatment suggests that both children with dyslexia and at its risk need phonological awareness training and multi-sensory learning. It is also known that prevention and early treatment is more effective than therapeutic intervention used in older students. Experts in foreign language acquisition recommend that children have contact with longer oral texts and live language (e.g., poems and songs). A recently-published report on the methods of English language teaching in Polish primary schools shows that the lessons conducted there do not realise the majority of the aforementioned recommendations. As a consequence, they do not serve any pupils including those with dyslexia and at its risk. A method which meets most of the demands mentioned above is “The Good Start Method for English”. It is a new program of teaching the English language designed for five to seven-year-olds, which at the same time ensures support for the psychomotor development of children, leading to acceleration in learning progress.

Opis:
Barley doubled haploids (DH) derived from first and second cycle hybrids were investigated in field experiments. Parental lines designed for the second cycle hybrids were three doubled haploids from the first cycle hybrids, which were observed to have the highest grain yield. Yield structure characters, crude protein content and protein fractions were analysed. Phenotypic and genetic variability and the frequency of transgression in the studied populations were calculated. For the studied traits additive, [d], and epistatic (additive x additive), [i], effects as well as coefficient of gene dispersion were estimated. It was found that the phenotypic and genetic variability of DH populations derived from second cycle hybrids was higher than that of the original population for all the studied traits except grain yield. A greater proportion of transgressive lines than in the original population was also observed in populations from second cycle hybrids. Only one DH line exceeding the high yielding parent was found among 141 lines under study. The relationship between the frequency of transgressions and gene dispersion was recorded: the greatest number of transgressive lines occurred in those traits for which the dispersion was observed.
