Opis:: Using the available analytical methods, including the determination of chemical composition using wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescent spectroscopy technique and phase composition determined using X-ray diffraction, microstructural observations in a high-resolution scanning microscope equipped with an X-ray microanalysis system as well as determination of characteristic softening and sintering temperatures using high-temperature microscope, the properties of particular chromite sands were defined. For the study has been typed reference sand with chemical properties, physical and thermal, treated as standard, and the sands of the regeneration process and the grinding process. Using these kinds of sand in foundries resulted in the occurrence of the phenomenon of the molding mass sintering. Impurities were identified and causes of sintering of a moulding sand based on chromite sand were characterized. Next, research methods enabling a quick evaluation of chromite sand suitability for use in the preparation of moulding sands were selected.

Opis:: Five families with the Lesch-Nyhan syndrome (LNS) and two families with the Kelley-Seegmiller syndrome (KSS) were studied. Seven different mutations were identified. Two transitions, C526→ T (Prol76Ser) and G481→A (Ala161Thr), in patients with a milder form of hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribo-syltransferase (HPRT) deficiency were detected. In patients with the Lesch-Nyhan syndrome two transitions, G569→A (Glyl90Glu) and C508→T (Arg170Ter), two transversions, C222→A (Phe74Leu) and C482→A (Ala161Glu), and a deletion of seven nucleotides (from A394 to G400) were observed. All except two of the identified mutations are novel. The C222→A substitution in exon III is located within one of the clusters of hot spots of the HPRT gene and has been previously described in four unrelated patients. The other recurrent mutation C508→T in exon VII has been reported in eight families.

Opis:: Effectiveness of the slags used in metallurgy of aluminum alloys and in recycling of composite materials containing these alloys depends on their surface properties at the phase boundaries they are in contact with. An index of surface properties of molten mixtures of slag-forming salts has been formulated. Its calculated values are compared with measured results of surface tension (liquid – atmosphere) and interfacial tension (liquid – liquid) in the considered systems. It was found that the index can be helpful for purposes of proper choice of the mixtures of slag-forming salts used both in Al alloys metallurgy and in recycling of composite materials based on the matrix of Al alloys.
Skuteczność żużli stosowanych w metalurgii stopów aluminium i recyklingu kompozytów z udziałem tych stopów, zależy od ich właściwości powierzchniowych na granicach faz, z którymi mają kontakt. Opracowano wskaźnik właściwości powierzchniowych stopionych mieszanin soli żużlotwórczych, a jego wyliczone wartości porównano z wynikami pomiarów napięć powierzchniowych (ciecz-atmosfera) i międzyfazowych (ciecz-ciecz) dla badanych układów. Stwierdzono, że wskaźnik ten może być przydatny w doborze mieszanin soli żużlotwórczych stosowanych zarówno w metalurgii stopów Al, jak i recyklingu materiałów kompozytowych na osnowie stopów Al.
