Industry 4.0 will affect the complexity of supply chain networks. It will be necessary to adapt more and more to the customer and respond within a time interval that is willing to accept the product waiting. From these considerations, there is a need for a different way of managing the supply chain. The traditional concept of supply chain as a linear system, which allows optimizing individual subsystems, thus obtaining an optimized supply chain, is not enough. The article deals with the issue of supply chain management reflecting demand behaviour using the methodology Demand Driven MRP system. The aim of the publication is to extend the knowledge base in the area of demand-driven supply logistics in the context of Industry 4.0 and verify the processed theoretical knowledge in a case study.

The paper presents some considerations about the market incentives for regional development. Its main objective is to identify the determinants of undertaking the implementation of good changes in larger areas, which are inspired by the demand for specifi c small place offers. This refers to regional conditions and needs, which are satisfi ed by urban areas. In central part of paper the list of factors was created, infl uenced on demand for the city products and over-local relations. The main thesis postulates the regional co-operation to summing the demands for products of different urban places, which can effect minimizing confl icts among cities in the region and generate more attractive regional offers. The case of that analytic approach is the comparison of Silesian cities inhabitants opinions with declarations about regional development strategic orientations in “Silesian Region Development Strategy ŚLĄSKIE 2020+”.

In this article, we review the research state of the bullwhip effect in supply chains with stochastic lead times. We analyze problems arising in a supply chain when lead times are not deterministic. Using real data from a supply chain, we confirm that lead times are stochastic and can be modeled by a sequence of independent identically distributed random variables. This underlines the need to further study supply chains with stochastic lead times and model the behavior of such chains.

This paper investigates deregulation of electricity market focusing on electricity prices and drivers of demand for electrical energy in industry in Slovenia. The patterns in evolution of real electricity price developments and the three main components of the electricity price are calculated: liberalized market share for purchased electricity price, regulated infrastructure share for use of electricity network grids and mandatory state charges in the sale of electricity (duty, excise duty and value-added tax). To calculate the real value of electricity prices, producer price index of industrial commodities for electricity prices in industry is used as deflator and implicit deflator of gross domestic product for the size of the economy. In the empirical econometric part is used regression analysis for the amount electricity consumption in the industry depending on the real gross domestic product, direct and cross-price elasticity for natural gas prices in the industry. The results confirmed volatility in real electricity price developments with their increasing tendency and the increasing share of different taxes and state charges in the electricity prices for industry. Demand for electrical energy in industry is positively associated with gross domestic product and price of natural gas as substitute for electrical energy in industry use, and negatively associated with prices of electrical energy for industry.

In cities with large educational institutions, the inflow of educational migrants is important for consumption demand, and can trigger multiplier effects. The main aim of this article is to show the mechanism of the aggregate demand-income effect created by educational migration in the Polish city of Opole. An estimate of this effect is provided, based on questionnaire research among a sample of 1 075 students from all institutions of higher education located in the city. The estimated effects analysed concern the direct consumption impulse, as well as the indirect job creation and increase in income for providers of accommodation for students, in turn triggering increased consumption demand. While the results must be interpreted with care, an estimated 15 per cent of consumption demand created through expenditure of migrant students (about PLN 175 400 000) and 485 extra job show the significance of such expenditure for the local economy.

Here we discuss a multi-product lot-sizing problem for a job shop controlled with a heijunka box. Demand is considered as a random variable with constant variation which must be absorbed somehow by the manufacturing system, either by increased inventory or by flexibility in the production. When a heijunka concept (production leveling) is used, fluctuations in customer orders are not transferred directly to the manufacturing system allowing for a smoother production and better production capacity utilization. The problem rather is to determine a tradeoff between the variability in the production line capacity requirement and the inventory level.

Opis:
In this paper we consider the influence of the safety factor on the decision of the inventory location. This decision is done based on the model which centralizes or decentralizes the safety stock. In this model we have to choose between the location of the inventory in the regional warehouses or the location in the central warehouse. The decision is made due to the minimizing the holding costs and the supply costs of the safety stock from the central warehouse to the customer. The main assumption is that the customers have the stochastic demands on the inventory items. Moreover, the customers’ demands have the known distribution with the known parameters. The complex analysis of the influences of possible probabilistic demands' distributions on the safety factors is conducted. The numerical computations for the safety factors used in the facility location model are also presented. In numerical examples we take into considerations the demands’ distributions the most often used in practice like the normal, the Poisson, the Gamma and the exponential distribution. Some graphs for the safety factors of these distributions are also drawn. Moreover for the mentioned demands’ distributions the model of the safety stock location depends on the specific factors. Among other things these factors are the mean and the variance of the demand, the number of the regional warehouses, the assumed service level, and some cost factors like the holding costs and the transportation costs. Some graphs which illustrated the dependence of the model elements on some listed before parameters are presented and their influence on the location decision is studied also.

An estimate of the world tungsten demand and supply until 2018 has been made. The figures were obtained by extrapolating from past trends of tungsten production from1905, and its demand from 1964. In addition, estimate suggestions of major production and investment companies were taken into account with regard to implementations of new projects for mining of tungsten or possible termination of its standing extraction. It can be assumed that tungsten supply will match demand by 2018. This suggestion is conditioned by successful implementation of new tungsten extraction projects, and full application of tungsten recycling methods.
Zaprezentowano szacunkową prognozę światowego popytu i podaży wolframu w roku 2018.

Opis:
The large variability in power consumption in electrical power systems (EPS) influences not only growth balance losses and technical losses, but also in some cases reduces energy security. Delayed restoration of power generation, combined with unpredictable weather events leading to the loss of generating power can lead to a situation in which to save the stability of the power system there must be introduced in the system a load power limit or even disconnection of end-user in a given area, which will significantly reduce the comfort of use of energy. This situation can be prevented through either the building of new intervention power units or the aggregated use of new energy technologies, such as distributed network resources (DER), which are part of an intelligent Smart Grid network. Such resources bring together virtual power plants (VPP) and demand side management (DSM). The article presents an alternative decentralized active demand response (DADR) system, that by acting on selected groups of loads reduces peak loads with minimized loss of comfort of energy in use for the end-user. The system operates without any communication. The effectiveness of the proposed solution has been confirmed, outlined in test results obtained by the authors from a developed analytical model, which also contains stochastic algorithms to decrease the negative impact of such DSM systems on the power system (power overshoot and oscillation).

Improper planning of inventory will affect the factory operating costs, building costs, the cost of loss, and the cost of product defects due to being stored for too long which will eventually become a loss. This research discusses the processing industry which is experiencing lumpy demand. In carrying out the production process, the company has never made plans for future demand, resulting in a waste of message costs due to repeated orders of raw materials ordered to suppliers. This paper contributes to overcoming this issue by simulating future demand by using the Material Requirement Planning (MRP) method with a probabilistic Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) and Periodic Order Quantity (POQ) model. The demand in the coming period is determined using the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) method, and an aggregate plan is carried out to determine the regular cost of raw material production and optimal subcontracting. The final analysis states that the calculation of MRP on the selected items using POQ produces the lowest cost for planning S45C-F, SGT-R, and SKD11-R, while SLD-R uses the probabilistic EOQ method.

Traditional and innovative on-demand transport services, such as taxi, car sharing or dial-a-ride respectively, can provide a level of flexibility to the public transport with the aim to guarantee a better service and to reduce the exploitation costs. In this context, in order to point out the key-factors of on-demand services, this study focuses on traditional on-demand service (such as taxi one), and presents the results of a demand analysis and modelling, obtained processing taxi floating car data (FCD) available for the city of Rome. The GPS position of each taxi is logged every few seconds and it was possible to build a monthly database of historical GPS traces through around 27 thousands of GPS positions recorded per day (more than 750 thousands for the entire month). Further, the patterns of within-day and day-to-day service demand are investigated, considering the origin, the destination and other characteristics of the trips (e.g. travel time). The time-based requests for taxi service were obtained and used to analyse the trip distribution in space and on time. These analyses allow us to forecast trips generated/attracted by each zone within the cities according to land use characteristics and time slices. Therefore, a regression tree analysis was developed and different regressive model specifications with different set of attributes (e.g. number of subway stations, number of zonal employees, population) were tested in order to assess their contribution on describing such a service use.
