A substantial quantity of research on muffler design has been restricted to a low frequency range using the plane wave theory. Based on this theory, which is a one-dimensional wave, no higher order wave has been considered. This has resulted in underestimating acoustical performances at higher frequencies when doing muffler analysis via the plane wave model. To overcome the above drawbacks, researchers have assessed a three-dimensional wave propagating for a simple expansion chamber muffler. Therefore, the acoustic effect of a higher order wave (a high frequency wave) is considered here. Unfortunately, there has been scant research on expansion chamber mufflers equipped with baffle plates that enhance noise elimination using a higher-order-mode analysis. Also, space-constrained conditions of industrial muffler designs have never been properly addressed. So, in order to improve the acoustical performance of an expansion chamber muffler within a constrained space, the optimization of an expansion chamber muffler hybridized with multiple baffle plates will be assessed. In this paper, the acoustical model of the expansion chamber muffler will be established by assuming that it is a rigid rectangular tube driven by a piston along the tube wall. Using an eigenfunction (higher- order-mode analysis), a four-pole system matrix for evaluating acoustic performance (STL) is derived. To improve the acoustic performance of the expansion chamber muffler, three kinds of expansion chamber mufflers (KA-KC) with different acoustic mechanisms are introduced and optimized for a targeted tone using a genetic algorithm (GA). Before the optimization process is performed, the higher-order-mode mathematical models of three expansion chamber mufflers (A-C) with various allocations of inlets/outlets and various chambers are also confirmed for accuracy. Results reveal that the STL of the expansion chamber mufflers at the targeted tone has been largely improved and the acoustic performance of a reverse expansion chamber muffler is more efficient than that of a straight expansion chamber muffler. Moreover, the STL of the expansion chamber mufflers will increase as the number of the chambers that separate with baffles increases.

Opis:
A special type of Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) which has frequent changes of topology and higher mobility is known as Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs). In order to divide the network into groups of mobile vehicles and improve routing, data gathering, clustering is applied in VANETs. A stable clustering scheme based on adaptive multiple metric combining both the features of static and dynamic clustering methods is proposed in this work. Based on a new multiple metric method, a cluster head is selected among the cluster members which is taken from the mobility metrics such as position and time to leave the road segment, relative speed and Quality of Service metrics which includes neighborhood degree, link quality of the RSU and bandwidth. A higher QoS and cluster stability are achieved through the adaptive multiple metric. The results are simulated using NS2 and shows that this technique provides more stable cluster structured with the other methods.

Opis:
Research on acoustical hoods used in industry has been widely discussed; however, the assessment of shape optimization on space-constrained close-fitting acoustic hoods by adjusting design parameters has been neglected. Moreover, the acoustical performance for a one-layer acoustic hood used in a high intensity environment seems to be insufficient. Therefore, an assessment of an optimally shaped acoustical hood with two layers will be proposed. In this paper, a numerical case for depressing the noise level of a piece of equipment by optimally designing a shaped two-layer close-fitting acoustic hood under a constrained space will be introduced. Furthermore, to optimally search for a better designed set for the multi-layer acoustical hood, an artificial immune method (AIM) has been adopted as well. Consequently, this paper provides a quick and effective method to reduce equipment noise by optimally designing a shaped multi- layer close-fitting acoustic hood via the AIM searching technique.

This paper presents and compares microphone calibration methods for the simultaneous calibration of small electret microphones in a wave guide. The microphones are simultaneously calibrated to a reference microphone both in amplitude and phase. The calibration procedure is formulated on the basis of the damped plane wave propagation equation, from which the acoustics field along the wave guide is predicted, using several reference measurements. Different calibration models are presented and the methods were found to be sensitive to the formulation, as well as to the number of free parameters used during the reconstruction of the wave-field. The wave guide model based on five free parameters was found to be the preferred method for this type of calibration procedure.

Experiments were performed in an interdigital micromixer with 30 microchannels (40 μm width of each channel) to separate In3+, Fe3+ and Zn2+ from sulfate solutions using Di-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) as the extractant. The effects of pH, extractant concentration and flow rate on the extraction efficiency and flow rate on mass transfer coefficient of In3+, Fe3+ and Zn2+ were investigated. At a phase flow rate of 7.0 mL/min and initial solution pH of 0.423, the extraction efficiency of In3+, Fe3+ and Zn2+ was 99.29%, 3.43% and 2.54%, respectively and mass transfer coefficient of In3+, Fe3+ and Zn2+ was 144.307 s-1,1.018 s-1 and 0.750 s-1. Then, the loaded organic phase was stripped in an interdigital micromixer. At a phase flow rate of 9.0 mL/min and HCl concentration of 160 g/L, stripping efficiency of In3+ was 98.92% and mass transfer coefficient of In3+ was 169.808 s-1, while concentration of Fe3+ and Zn2+ was lower than 0.005 g/L with good separation of In3+ from Fe3+ and Zn2+.

The article is the result of a project aimed at developing and implementing a design of composite accessories for support in excavations located in underground hard coal mines. The research team verified the possibility of using elements made of prefabricated composite structural profile as an alternative to steel and reinforced concrete lining elements used to improve support’s stability and protect against rockfall. This paper includes a research experiment on the possibilities of using a composite C-profile element as lining made in the pultrusion technology with a longitudinal position of the roving. The prefabricated structural profiles were adapted to the function by designing seatings for fitting the flanges for arch support’s V-profiles. Prototypes of these elements were subjected to bench tests in compliance with the guidelines for testing mesh linings. In addition, computer simulations using the finite element method were carried out. The values obtained during the tests were compared with the requirements for lightweight mesh and included the Polish standard PN-G-15050 and reinforced A-type concrete lining defined in the standard PN-G-06021. The team determined the areas where material strength exceeded and the structure was damaged. Despite the limited quantity of laboratory tests and lack of field tests in actual mining conditions, it was possible to address the argument of the research and determine whether it is possible to use C-profile made in the pultrusion technology as a lining element.

In this study, the mechanical properties of Al-Si alloys was improved by selecting higher Si content and avoiding distortion in Al-Si matrix by adding an extrusion process such that the fabrication processes casting and extrusion were in sequence. Cast billets were extruded at ratios 4:1 and 10:1 to obtained two extruded bars with different processing parameters. The as-extruded samples were characterized and investigated for microstructure and mechanical properties. Optical Microscope was used to examined phase morphologies and microstructures of the extruded Al-Si bars. Mechanical properties were conducted on each sample to study the effectiveness of the additional extrusion process in high Si content Al-Si alloys. The result shows that by increasing the extrusion ratio, the size of the primary Si particle reduces leading to a higher density, better tensile and yield strength compared to the cast billet.

The goal of the proposed computational model was to evaluate the dynamical properties of air gauges in order to exploit them in such industrial applications as in-process control, form deviation measurement, dynamical measurement. The model is based on Reynolds equations complemented by the k-ε turbulence model. The boundary conditions were set in different areas (axis of the chamber, side surfaces, inlet pipeline and outlet cross-section) as Dirichlet's and Neumann's ones. The TDMA method was applied and the efficiency of the calculations was increased due to the "line-by-line" procedure. The proposed model proved to be accurate and useful for non-stationary two-dimensional flow through the air gauge measuring chamber.

This paper describes the adaptation of a computational technique utilizing Extended Kohonen Maps (EKMs) and Rao-Blackwell-Kolmogorov (R-B) Filtering mechanisms for the administration of Sensor-Actuator networks (SANETs). Inspired by the BDI (Belief-Desire-Intention) Agent model from Rao and Georgeff, EKMs perform the quantitative analysis of an algorithmic artificial neural network process by using an indirect-mapping EKM to self-organize, while the Rao-Blackwell filtering mechanism reduces the external noise and interference in the problem set introduced through the self-organization process. Initial results demonstrate that a combinatorial approach to optimization with EKMs and Rao-Blackwell filtering provides an improvement in event trajectory approximation in comparison to standalone cooperative EKM processes to allow responsive event detection and optimization in patient healthcare.

Opis:
The Silurian biostratigraphy, lithostratigraphy, and facies of Central Iran including the Kashmar (Boghu Mountains), Tabas (Derenjal Mountains, Ozbak-Kuh), Anarak (Pol-e Khavand) and Kerman regions is reviewed and updated. The current state of knowledge of the Silurian in the Zagros Basin, Alborz, Kopet-Dagh and Talysh regions, as well as in a few areas scattered across the Sabzevar Zone, and the Sanandaj-Sirjan terranes is also reviewed. Silurian volcanism in various parts of Iran is briefly discussed. The end of the Ordovician coincided with a widespread regression across Iran synchronous with the Hirnantian glaciation, and only in the Zagros Basin is there a continuous Ordovician–Silurian transition represented by graptolitic black shales of the Sarchahan Formation. In the Central-East Iranian Platform marine sedimentation re-commenced in the early to mid Aeronian. By the Sheinwoodian, carbonate platform depositional environments were established along its north-eastern margin. In other parts of Iran (e.g., Kopet-Dagh and the Sabzevar Zone), siliciclastic sedimentation continued probably into the late Silurian. The Silurian conodont and brachiopod biostratigraphy of Central Iran is significantly updated facilitating a precise correlation with the Standard Global Chronostratigraphic Scale, as well as with key Silurian sections in other parts of Iran. The Silurian lithostratigraphy is considerably revised and two new lithostratigraphical units, namely the Boghu and Dahaneh-Kalut formations, are introduced.

In the paper an improved method of calculation of the inductance and capacitances in the ?1 circuit for Class A, AB, B, and C resonant power amplifiers is presented. This method is based on an assumption that the quality factor of the inductor is inite and the capacitors are lossless. The input parameters for calculations are the amplifier load resistance, the transistor load resistance, the quality factor of the inductor, the loaded quality factor of the designed circuit, and the operating frequency. The presented method allows reducing the required regulation range of ?1 circuits elements In built resonant amplifiers as compared to the traditional calculation methods assuming lossless capacitors and inductor. This advantage is important, in particular, for long- and medium-wave transistor power amplifiers, where capacitances in ?1 circuits are high comparing to typical trimming capacitors.

The paper presents the results of research on the plastic zones formation in thin (3.51 [mm]) shields made of steel C45 with holes of 4, 10 and 20 diameters. The authorship method of identifying plastic macro-strains utilizing optical interference phenomenon was used in the experiments. The basic idea of the method is summarized below as being: “The occurrence of plastic deformations in the active process of loading is testified by a loss of the interference fringes that were previously present or by a clear and rapid change in their character”. In the experiments, the values of the stress initiating the first plastic deformation were determined. In order to explain the processes of plastic deformation appearance a detailed stress state analysis in the holes surrounding area was realized with the use of Finite Element Method. Comparison of experimental results with the results of FEM calculations indicates that there are significant quantitative as well as qualitative differences. Namely stresses initiating plastic deformations clearly exceed the value of ReH, and plastic deformation are of local plastic slides character. Similar results were previously obtained in studies on the shields made of steel 15CrMo with holes.
W pracy zaprezentowano wyniki badan nad formowaniem stref plastycznych w cienkich tarczach wykonanych ze stali C45 z otworami o srednicach 4,10 i 20 milimetrów. W eksperymentach wykorzystano autorską metodę identyfikacji makro-odkształceń plastycznych za pomocą zjawiska interferencji optycznej. Główną zasadę wykorzystania tej metody mozna ując w zdaniu: „O występowaniu odkształceń plastycznych w czynnym procesie obciażania swiadczy zanik pierwotnie widocznych prążków interferencyjnych bądź gwałtowna zmiana ich charakteru”. Wyznaczono doświadczalnie wartości naprężeń inicjujacych odkształcenia plastyczne. W celu wyjaśnienia zjawisk towarzyszacych inicjacji procesów towarzyszących początkowej fazie odkształceń plastycznych została przeprowadzona szczegółowa analiza stanu naprezenia w strefie otworów. Porównanie wyników analizy eksperymentalnej z wynikami uzyskanymi za pomoca Metody Elementów Skończonych wykazało istotne róznice ilosciowe i jakosciowe. Mianowicie, napreżenia inicjujące odkształcenia plastyczne istotnie przekraczaja wartosc górnej granicy plastyczności ReH oraz odkształcenia plastyczne posiadają charakter towarzyszący lokalnym poślizgom plastycznym. Podobne wyniki były prezentowane uprzednio w badaniach tarcz z otworami wykonanych ze stali 15CrMo.

The scattering and transmission of sound by an elastic spherical shell is considered when it is subject to an incoming monochromatic planar wave. It is aimed to cancel the sound scattering using combinations of multi-pole sources located at the centre of a shell filled with compressible fluid. Assuming linear acoustics and structural dynamics, exact solutions are derived for total elimination of the sound scattering for three cases: a free-space, near a hard ground or near a free-surface, where in the last two cases it is assumed that the incoming wave propagates normal to the interface to maximize sound reflection back unto the source of the incoming wave. An elastic spherical shell of 1 m radius embedded in water and filled with air or oil is analysed to show the dominance of low-mode numbers for frequencies of less than 10 kHz and thus demonstrate the ability of this approach to damp acoustic scattering by means of low-order multi-poles inside the shell. Contour and mode distribution plots are also given and analysed.

This paper introduces an LTE system level simulator and presents investigations of scenarios with differently balanced traffic emergence between uplink and downlink as well as inhomogeneous distribution of link direction asymmetry. In the TDD mode of LTE, duplexing is implemented via sharing the time domain between uplink and downlink users. This is done by different switching configurations, which offer varying capacity distributions between downlink and uplink, from a downlink-heavy configuration with 90 percent of the capacity in downlink direction to uplink heavy configurations with 60 percent uplink. We utilize the available capacity perfectly by adjusting the link configuration appropriately to traffic emergence. Performance gains when selecting a configuration appropriate to the arising traffic compared to usage of a static configuration with equally distributed capacity are investigated. In case of different configurations, additional interference can occur in neighbored cells due to distinct communication direction at the same time. We clarify the differences between these scenarios and quantify the gains and losses when the switching point between uplink and downlink is variable.
