Opis:
This paper presents the results of investigations into stress distribution in the adhesive bonds of multiply conveyor belt splices. The splices were cold-vulcanized with the use of chemically hardening glues having various strength parameters. The research results demonstrated that the length of splices may be reduced without the risk of lowering their tensile strength and fatigue life. The paper presents stress values in adhesive joints of various belt types and the influence that the properties of belts, splices and splicing materials have on stress values in the adhesive bond of the splice.

Article discusses issues related to the weakened strength of the joints in conveyor belts. Joints are the weakest element of the belt and should be taken aimed at eliminating the errors made that may be caused by multiple factors. Every breakdown generates additional costs in the company so this is important to decrease their number. All analyzed joints were made using belts with steel cords. The results were obtained from the Conveyor Transport Laboratory at the Wroclaw University of Technology. The assessment showed a significant impact of the working defects on joint strength. Also the trend analysis performed on the samples of regenerated belts showed a linear decrease in strength along with the degree of regeneration.

Opis:
In the Belt Conveying Laboratory (LTT) at the Faculty of Geoengineering, Mining and Geology at Wroclaw University of Technology a new area of application has been found for the newly developed high resolution magnetic diagnostic device for assessment of steel cord conveyor belts condition. In addition to monitoring of belts during their operation on conveyors this device can be used in LTT as the new tool in belts resistance to puncture investigations. High resolution images of changes in magnetic field of magnetized cord wires can be used for evaluation of failures and cuts caused by dynamic impact of iron head (striker) during laboratory tests without belt cover removal. The usefulness of the device is even greater due to not only condition of steel cord belts can be evaluated, what for this device was developed, but it allows also on observations of failures in impact-resistant metal breakers in textile belts. Breakers are frequently made of thin wires vulcanized above carcass inside the top cover laterally to the center line of the belt. The aim of breakers is protection of the expensive core against failures caused by big lumps of rock with sharp edges falling onto belt surface in loading points. Their role is shock absorption to minimize gouging and resistance of longitudinal rips. Due to breaker wires can also be magnetized after changing the direction of samples of punctured belts they can be monitored using the developed device at the testing conveyor. In the paper the first outcomes of application of magnetic diagnostic device for evaluation of punctured steel cord belts and textile belts with metal breakers are presented.

Opis:
Belt conveyors (BCs), because of their high efficiency, are widely used for bulk material handling in the mining industry. However, due to the high level of conveyors' energy consumption, the belt conveyor systems generate a large part of mining costs. Therefore, the current solutions mostly focus on implementing new management strategies, which find energy consumption as a key indicator in designing belt conveyor systems. Belt conveyor equipment selection, conveying systems, operation, applied mining technology are considered to be areas where improvement of belt conveyors' energy efficiency may be achieved. Moreover, they can be used to implement novel standards for BC equipment and the proposal of defining new quality standards and creating BCs' classification has been already outlined. The main idea of the paper is to compare the values of specific energy consumption (SEC) of BCs with regard to the inclination angle of a conveyor route which results from technological needs. The multiple regression is used to find a relationship between two basic independent variables – the volume of transported material and conveyor's inclination angle – and a dependent variable (SEC). The procedure enables to determine the value of SEC which is required for lifting the material. Presented results prove that the value of SEC required for lifting the material is crucial for the interpretation of the SEC value when it comes to energy efficiency comparison.

Opis:
Conveyor belts are the most common way of mechanical handling equipment in industry, especially in underground and open-pit mines. Maintenance of conveyor belts generate high costs, there-fore energy savings belts have become popular in recent years. Constant development of continuous transport equipment and looking for savings implies necessary of carrying advanced theoretical research and analysis. In this case determine of indentation rolling resistance is the clue. Based on previous re-search authors suggested new theoretical model of determination rolling resistance. Authors proofed that stress distribution described in time coordinates coexists with lateral deformation of belt. In two dimensional Kelvin–Voigt model it has two components: the particular solution of the differential equation of belt’s model and an general solution (which is typical for harmonic load). In this new model authors included overlooked by others particular solution; that gives a possibility of designating the whole spectrum of changes in the value of the rolling resistance. The obtained results allow to specify new and more accurate damping factor.

Within the INESI-project (Increasing Efficiency and Safety Improvement in Underground Mining Transportation Routes) long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) cameras are used for detecting persons on underground belt conveyors or within hazardous areas e.g. in front of crusher or skip vessels by the project partners KOMAG and the Institute for Advanced Mining Technologies (AMT). The test case for evaluating the performance of thermal imaging regarding these applications is the Polish Sobieski underground coal mine operated by Tauron mining company. By the development of thermal image processing algorithms, an automated detection of persons and classification of different objects was achieved. This may allow implementing smart services for person detection on underground belt conveyors as well as material characterization between coal, rock and disturbing objects on belt conveyors.

Opis:
In conveyor transport systems, different solutions to the transfer points constructions are used. Choosing the right solution requires conditions analysis of the cooperation between two conveyors. For years, the analytical methods have been used to evaluate the discharge trajectory of the transported material. Increasingly, to evaluate the movement of grains in the transfer space to analyze the behavior of the bulk material in contact with transfer chute elements, researchers successfully use simulations performed in the discrete element method (DEM). Well-constructed chute allows the material stream to be uniformly fed onto the receiving conveyor with a desired stable tangential speed. Proper design reduces motion resistances and belt wear. In the paper, the analysis of selected construction solutions of transfer points and the possibilities of their usage in copper ore transport systems were performed. The research was conducted using the DEM simulations of the ore flow. For specifying the best conditions of the cooperation of the feeding and receiving conveyors, a series of simulations were generated. The criteria for the comparative evaluation of the analyzed solutions were the values of acceleration zone length and abrasive wear of the belt.

Opis:
As steel cord conveyor belts are vulcanized during the production process, rubber penetrates into steel cords. It is a positive and a desired phenomenon allowing the belt to reach its required properties and ensuring its reliable and long operation on the belt conveyor. Advantageously, the rubber compound penetrating into the cord improves the strength of the cord-rubber joint by increasing the active contact surface of the two materials. This fact is of great significance in the view of the steel cord conveyor belt splicing technology, which relies on an adhesive connection between the cord and the rubber. Moreover, filling the inside of the cords with rubber protects against corrosion and has a good effect on their durability. The article presents a laboratory method for testing and evaluating the penetration of the steel cord with rubber. The method has been developed on the basis of numerous laboratory tests, which are also here described. The presented method is reliable and can be used for a broad range of cord diameters and designs. The proposal also includes a quantitative measure of the rubber penetration of cord and the criteria for its identification.

W pracy przedstawiono opis mobilnego systemu do bezinwazyjnej diagnostyki rdzenia taśm przenośnikowych z linkami stalowymi. Opisany w pracy system został pomyślnie przetestowany w warunkach kopalnianych i jest obecnie wykorzystywany do oceny stanu technicznego taśm pracujących w systemie transportowym kopalni (rys. 1).
This paper describes a mobile system for the noninvasive diagnosis of the core of conveyor belts with steel cords. The system is based on the 4-channel magnetic head of the EyeQ system which one of the Polish opencast mines bought at the beginning of the 21st century. Because of the restructuring of the mine and the aging of the EyeQ system, measures were taken to improve the latter’s resolution and performance. The upgrading consisted mainly in developing a new software for data analysis automation and in replacing the old hardware platform with a new one increasing six-fold system resulution. The system has successfully passed tests in mine conditions and is currently used to assess the condition of belts working in the mine transport system.
