Opis:
The stator winding of a hydrogenerator is often made up of coils with multiple turns in the same slot. It is therefore possible for faults to develop between adjacent turns on the same phase (turn-toturn faults). These faults cannot be detected by the stator differential protection because there is no difference between the neutral- and terminal-side currents. Split-phase protection, an overcurrent element responding to the difference between the currents in the winding parallel branches, is typically provided to detect these faults. Ideally, the split-phase element should be sensitive enough to detect a single shorted turn. Despite the fact that the current in this turn can be six to seven times the machine nominal current, the current seen by the split-phase protection can be quite small, in the order of one-twentieth of the generator full-load current. In addition, a spurious split-phase current can be measured due to current transformer (CT) errors, saturation during external faults in particular. Therefore, primary considerations in the application of split-phase protection are the method of measuring the difference in the currents between the parallel branches and the proper selection of the CT used for this purpose.

Opis:
The article presents the results of research on the use of an axial flux in the diagnostics of induction motor stator winding fed by a frequency converter. Voltage signal waveforms proportional to the axial flux were recorded during motor operation under various conditions and were analyzed with regard to the detection of stator winding short circuits. The taps of the selected coil turns of stator phases were introduced into the tested motor, which allowed to physical modelling inter-turn short circuits. The structure and operation of the computer system used to monitor the state of induction motor windings were discussed. The developed diagnostic system was made in the National Instruments LabVIEW environment. The analysis of faults of the axial flux was made in the detection of induction motor stator winding. The results of experimental research conducted using the developed diagnostic system have also been presented.

Opis:
The paper presents the possibility of using neural networks in the detection of stator and rotor electrical faults of induction motors. Fault detection and identification are based on the analysis of symptoms obtained from the fast Fourier transform of the voltage induced by an axial flux in a measurement coil. Neural network teaching and testing were performed in a MATLAB–Simulink environment. The effectiveness of various neural network structures to detect damage, its type (rotor or stator damage) and damage levels (number of rotor bars cracked or stator winding shorted circuits) is presented.

Opis:
A mathematical model of a squirrel-cage induction motor with inter-turn short-circuits in stator phases is presented in this paper. In the proposed mathematical model an extent and angular localization of short-circuit faults are determined using a simple form of short-circuit coefficient matrices. The model does not require any additional motor parameters than those that are required for conventional model of healthy induction motor. Comparative results obtained through computer simulations and from a laboratory test-stand with 2.2 kW induction motor are contained in the article. The results obtained validate the proposed extended mathematical model of a squirrel-cage induction motor with inter-turn short-circuit of stator windings.

This paper describes two algorithms applied for active and reactive power control in wind turbine driven doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). The first proposed method applies the PI controllers for regulation of DFIG power and the rotor current while the second one utilizes a difference approximation of a given flux derivative. Both algorithms are based on the model description with reference to the stator flux linkage frame. General description of the analyzed methods is delivered and some results of simulations are included.

Opis:
This paper deals with energetic aspects of soft starting and braking application for the squirrelcage induction motors operating in intermittent duty with constant load. Energy losses in transients of an induction motor for different laws of voltage changing as well as induction motor stator winding temperature at the end of starting process are calculated and compared with the ones during fullvoltage starting and plug braking. Energy losses calculation during induction motor soft starting and braking has been performed analytically and via the Matlab simulation models of equivalent twophase induction motor in alfa to beta coordinates. The results of both calculation methods are compared and a divergence between them is determined. Also the effect of total energy losses on the induction motor stator winding temperature at the end of the motor starting process and its allowable frequency of starting is analyzed. Analytical calculation and simulation of soft starting and braking have been performed with allow for the linear and exponential laws of the first voltage harmonic magnitude changing. The results of simulation and analytical calculations are given in the tables.

Opis:
This article presents a new development of an indirect stator flux-oriented controller for sensorless speed induction motor drive utilising instantaneous and steady-state values, respectively, of a fictitious resistance symbolised as R_f. The dimension of the fictitious quantity, in this context, is the ohm, which is the difference between the stator d- and q-axis fictitious resistances. However, from the measurement of the stator voltage and currents of the machine, two independent resistance estimators are built. Therefore, the first is considered as a reference model of the induction machine (IM), and the second is considered as an adjustable model. Subsequently, the error between the states of the two models is used to drive a suitable adaptation mechanism that generates the estimation of the speed, for the adjustable model. Furthermore, the structure of the proposed estimator is free from stator resistance and eliminates the requirement of any flux computation. All the detailed simulation study is carried out in MATLAB/Simulink to validate the proposed method and to highlight the robustness and the stability of the proposed model reference adaptive system estimator.

Opis:
A sensorless indirect stator-flux-oriented control (ISFOC) induction motor drive at very low frequencies is presented herein. The model reference adaptive system (MRAS) scheme is used to estimate the speed and the rotor resistance simultaneously. However, the error between the reference and the adjustable models, which are developed in the stationary stator reference frame, is used to drive a suitable adaptation mechanism that generates the estimates of speed and the rotor resistance from the stator voltage and the machine current measurements. The stator flux components in the stationary reference frame are estimated through a pure integration of the back electro-motive force (EMF) of the machine. When the machine is operated at low speed, the pure integration of the back EMF introduces an error in flux estimation which affects the performance torque and speed control. To overcome this problem, pure integration is replaced with a programmable cascaded low-pass filter (PCLPF). The stability analysis method of the MRAS estimator is verified in order to show the robustness of the rotor resistance variations. Experimental results are presented to prove the effectiveness and validity of the proposed scheme of sensorless ISFOC induction motor drive.
