Opis:
Utilizing the ultrasonic pretreatment, flotation tests, ICP-OES, and XPS analysis, the effect of the different ultrasonic pretreatment methods on the flotation behavior of galena were investigated. The flotation recovery of galena was improved for pretreated single galena sample, which is mainly attributed to the efficient removal of the oxidized components and contaminants on the surface of galena by the acoustic cavitation. However, the flotation recovery of galena was decreased when pretreated mixture sample of galena and pyrite was used. Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results reveal that ultrasonic pretreatment facilitates the conversion of $PbS$ to $Pb(OH)_2$ and $PbSO_4$. Besides, the flotation recovery of galena was affected to varying degrees when the galena was mixed with the pyrite of the different particle sizes in the ultrasonic pretreatment process. The reason is that the change in the surface area ratio of these two minerals affects the electrochemical reaction rate between galena and pyrite.

Turkey has important potential pumices reserves (68% of the reserve of the world) and 56 % of pumice reserve of Turkey is in the East Anatolia Region. It is important to assess huge pumice reserves in Eastern Turkey for its use in the cement and concrete industry. Use of acidic pumice and basic pumice (scoria) as cement additive or aggregate are gaining popularity because of their proven structural/durability properties. This paper presents the results of an investigation to assess the effectiveness of pumice and scoria aggregates in controlling alkali silica reaction (ASR) of alkali silica reactive aggregate using the following test methods: the accelerated mortar bar test (ASTM C 1260) and the scanning electron microscopy technique (SEM). The morphologies, structures and properties of the samples were determined by XRD, ICP-MS, XRF and thin section study. Mortar cubes were specially prepared according to ASTM standards using 10, 20 and 30% pumice or scoria aggregate as alkali silica reactive aggregate replacement. The results are compared with ASTM requirements to assess the suitability of pumice or scoria for preventing alkali silica reactivity. According to the results of these methods, pumice aggregates control the alkali silica reaction whereas scoria aggregates decrease expansion but is not as effective as pumice in preventing ASR. The results of SEM analysis showed alkali silica gel formation and serious decomposition of aggregate texture due to ASR in scoria added mortar bars.

In the present manuscript, unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow over a moving porous semi-infinite vertical plate with time-dependent suction has been studied in the presence of chemical reaction and radiation parameters. Time-dependent partial differential equations in the dimensionless form are solved numerically through mathematical modelling in COMSOL Multiphysics. The results are obtained for velocity, temperature and concentration profiles at different times. Steady state results are also presented for different values of physical parameters. The parameters involved in the problem are useful to change the characteristics of velocity, heat transfer and concentration profiles. The numerical solution of partial differential equations involved in the problem is obtained without sacrificing the relevant physical phenomena.

Opis:
The mechanism and leaching kinetics of a molybdenite concentrate in a H2O2-H2SO4 system were studied. The experimental work was performed in a batch reactor equipped with a condenser, a mechanical agitator and a temperature control system. The effects of the temperature, H2O2 and H2SO4 concentrations, particle size, liquid/solid ratio and agitation speed on the Mo recovery were investigated. The thermodynamic results showed that the leaching mechanism it was governed by several intermediate reactions; however, the influences of sulfuric acid and passivation were not observed in the reaction. The most predominant experimental result was the maximum Mo recovery of 81.3% by leaching 64 μm particles at 333 K (60 °C) for 5400 s (90 min). The molybdenum recovery was generally enhanced by increasing the H2O2 and H2SO4 concentrations. However, at H2SO4 concentrations higher than 1.0 mol/dm3, the Mo recovery decreased. Although the agitation speed affected the Mo recovery considerably, high recoveries could be still obtained without mixing. The experimental results and XRD analysis confirmed the reaction mechanisms. The leaching kinetics were analyzed using a shrinking core model in which the rate was controlled by diffusion through a porous layer with radius ro. The reaction rate orders were 1.0 and 0.2 for the H2O2 and H2SO4 concentrations, respectively, and the rate was inversely proportional to the square of the initial particle radius. The calculated activation energy was 75.2 kJ/mol in the temperature range of 278-333 K (5-60 °C).

Opis:
A sulfidization roasting-flotation process was usually viewed to be effective in treating the refractory oxide ore. In this paper, pyrite was proposed to be applied as a potential vulcanizing reagent to transform PbO or its surface to PbS based on feasibilities of technology and economy. The evolution process, phase and characteristics of crystal growth were investigated by TG, XRD and SEM-EDS, respectively, to interpret the interaction mechanism of lead oxide and pyrite at high temperature. It was found that the decomposition process of pyrite under argon atmosphere was a slow process of sulfur released from FeS2 to FexS, which made the process easier to be controlled. When PbO was introduced into the system, the initial solid-solid (PbO-FeS2) reaction and prevailing solid-gas (PbO-S2(g)) reaction occurred at about 500 °C and 700 °C, respectively. Combined with the SEM-EDS analyses results, the optimal temperature for the sulfidization of PbO should be in the range of 700-750 °C.

Extraction times for selected metal cations (Mg2+, Al3+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Mn2+, Fe2+ and Fe3+) have been measured using cation-exchanging extractants - Versatic 10 (neodecanoic acid), DEHPA (bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid) and Cyanex 272 (bis(2,4,4-trimetylpentyl)phosphinic acid). Data was collected directly by measuring and recording pH of the two phase reaction mixture with maintaining continuity of the aqueous phase. Similarly, the stripping rate of selected cations (Mg2+, Al3+, Zn2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+) in a sulphuric acid solution was measured. Viscosities of organic phases, saturated with cations, were measured before their stripping. Additionally, the extraction dependence of Mg2+, Al3+, Fe2+ and Fe3+ on pH was measured using Versatic 10 at various concentrations (7.5, 15 and 30 %).

Opis:
A theoretical analysis method of the solution chemistry characteristic of Cu(II) at various pH values was developed. Using such method, the existence form of Cu species and their proportions in aqueous solution can be clearly determined. After that, the copper adsorption and ion exchange ratio (E) during the copper activation of sphalerite were investigated. The results indicated that the copper activation of sphalerite can be divided into two stages, i.e., the fast activation stage (t ≤4 min) and slow activation stage (t >4 min). The general form of the copper adsorption rate was determined as ΓCu=K1ln(t) +Γ1, which is confirmed by the data fitting of the fast activation stage. The lower activation pH results in higher ion exchange efficiency for Cu substituting Zn. For a strong acid pH of 4.1, the E maintains about 1:1 in the entire activation time range and is not dependent on the activation time. However, the value of E is greater than 1 under weak acidic (pH=6.2) and alkaline (pH=9.1) pH conditions and it significantly depends on the activation time. For such conditions, E decreases with increase in the activation time, which supports the ion exchange mechanism, but within short activation time, it is not a 1:1 ion exchange process.

Purpose: The aim of this paper was to examine and compare the changes of ground reaction forces observed during the Basic Step on the Core Board fitness device at various levels of stability. Material and method: The study involved 10 female students. Participants stepped on and off the Core Board 10 times at 3 levels of stability. After completing a series of steps, the Core Board’s stability was modified and the participant repeated the whole series. The measurement platform to examine three components of the reaction force (horizontal in the sagittal and frontal planes, and vertical) was used. Results: The ground reaction force (GRF) observed on the Core Board, in the vertical and horizontal components is higher at all three levels of stability than on the platform without the device. Significant differences in GRF were observed in the horizontal component in the frontal plane (Fz) at all three levels of mobility as well as in impulse, measured on platforms with the device. Conclusion: The results on the Core Board training device present highest horizontal ground reaction forces in frontal plane at the highest level of Core Board mobility and this showing little medio-lateral stability and a more reactive way of movement regulation of the participants. As a consequence of the force patterns found it may be suggested that fitness training concepts should focus more possibly higher strains on the locomotor system most likely caused by changed ground reaction force patterns, an idea that has to be further analyzed with more complex measurement approaches.

Gasification slag is the solid waste produced in the coal gasification process, and its treatment and disposal problems are becoming more and more serious. In this study, the gasification slag produced in a chemical base in northern China and its residual carbon obtained by gravity separation of water medium were taken as the research objects, and their physicochemical properties were analyzed comprehensively. The residual carbon products, ash-rich products and high-ash products were obtained from the gasification slag after gravity separation. Under the optimal structure, the ignition loss of residual carbon products was reduced from 79.80% to 16.84%, and the yield was 11.64%. The high content of amorphous carbon and developed pores in the residual carbon provide the possibility of manufacturing high value-added materials. Raman spectrum showed that the residual carbon had lower aromaticity, higher content of small and medium aromatic ring structures, lower structural stability and easier combustion. Thermogravimetric combustion kinetics showed that the average combustion rate of residual carbon was 0.325(dm/dt)mean/%•min−1, the comprehensive combustion characteristic index was 1.41•10−9%2•min−2•°C−3. It has excellent performance and can be used as a raw material for mixed combustion in a circulating fluidized bed. The analysis of physical and chemical properties of residual carbon is of great significance for follow-up exploration of the resource utilization and high-value utilization of the residual carbon.

Accidental releases of hazardous material into the atmosphere pose high risks to human health and the environment. Thus it would be valuable to develop an emergency reaction system which can recognize the probable location of the source based only on concentrations of the released substance as reported by a network of sensors. We apply a methodology combining Bayesian inference with Sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methods to the problem of locating the source of an atmospheric contaminant. The input data for this algorithm are the concentrations of a given substance gathered continuously in time. We employ this algorithm to locating a contamination source using data from a field tracer experiment covering the Kori nuclear site and conducted in May 2001. We use the second-order Closure Integrated PUFF Model (SCIPUFF) of atmospheric dispersion as the forward model to predict concentrations at the sensors’ locations. We demonstrate that the source of continuous contamination may be successfully located even in the very complicated, hilly terrain surrounding the Kori nuclear site.

Fenton reaction is an important method to remove NO from flue gas. • OH radicals generated in the Fenton reaction can effectively oxidize NO to NO2, which is absorbed and removed by alkali sorbent. To supply guidance for engineering research, numerical simulation of NO oxidation by • OH radical clusters in flue gas has been carried out using Fluent software. The average concentration of NO on the cross sections at various positions of a cylindrical pipe with a circular surface was calculated by simulation. Under various working conditions (temperature, • OH/NO molar ratio, NO concentration in flue gas, and jet velocity), NO oxidation efficiency by • OH radical was simulated and the key factors affecting NO oxidation were analyzed. The results show that temperature and • OH/NO molar ratio are the key factors affecting the oxidation of NO by • OH radicals. The injection velocity has also a significant effect on the oxidation efficiency while the moisture and oxygen content are minor factors influencing the process. The optimum oxidation efficiency of NO is obtained at 473–523 K, the molar ratio of • OH/NO ca. 1.4, the jet velocity 10 m/s, and the flue gas velocity of 3 m/s.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine how minimalist running shoes (MRS), conventional running shoes (CRS) and the dominance of lower limbs influence the running gait. Methods: Trained recreational runners (N = 13) who have been engaged in regulary running for more than one year were participants in this study. They were experienced with using MRS and CRS for more than half year and they used both types of shoes. An in-shoe pressure measuring system (Pedar-X®, Novel, Munich, Germany) was used to monitor plantar pressure and vertical force and the temporal parameters when running in MRS and CRS during the stance phase, the swing phase and over one stride. Results: Running in CRS significantly prolonged stance, swing and stride phases by 2–11% compared to MRS. In contrast, when running in MRS significantly larger values of maximum pressure (9–14%) and maximum vertical force (3–7%) than in CRS were found. Conclusions: For this reason, running in MRS could be recommended to recreational runners only with care. The effect of limb dominance on temporal characteristics was detected when running in CRS. Significantly longer stance phase for dominant limb is associated with a shorter swing. The kinematics variables were significantly higher for dominant limb than for non-dominat limb when running in MRS and CRS (by 12–23%).
