Opis:
Applicability of a fuzzy approach to a problem originating from administrative accounting, namely to determine an economic order quantity (EOQ) in a variable competitive environment with imprecise and vague data, has been presented. For this purpose, the model of ordered fuzzy numbers developed by the first author and his two co-workers is used. The present approach generalizes the one developed within the framework of convex fuzzy numbers and stays outside the probabilistic one.

Opis:
The article addresses the application of non-classical operational calculus to approximative solutions of engineering problems. The engineering-sound examples show that a continuous–discrete problem transformation from differential unequivocal problem to a differential wildcard problem, triggering a change in solution quality. A number of approximative methods are capable to alter both quantitative and qualitative solution effects.

Opis:
Liquid-solid fluidized bed (LSFB) has been widely known and used for separation of coarse coal particles (normally larger than 0.25 mm). The process of separation by LSFB needs fluidization water from the bottom to the top of LSFB. The fluidization water is formed by the water addition at the bottom of the LSFB. Normally the quantity of water addition is very large, which increases the burden of water treatment in coal preparation processes. In this investigation, a spiral unit was introduced into the conventional LSFB and the new separation equipment was named S-LSFB. The spiral unit could provide an upward force for the upward movement of coarse low density coals into the concentrate, and hence the quantity of water addition for fluidization water may be reduced. Samples of 0.5-0.25 mm size fraction coal were used to investigate the difference in separation performance between S-LSFB and LSFB. It was found that the separation performance of S-LSFB was nearly equal to that of LSFB. S-LSFB may be beneficial to coarse coal separation in coal preparation plant since the burden of water treatment can be reduced by the application of S-LSFB.

Opis:
In a complex supply chain network, the production nodes, seller nodes, and buyers are connected randomly. We assume a process of joining two random nodes leading to the bivariate Poisson probability mass function. There exist two types of links - one is horizontal (H) and the other is vertical (V), which support the continuous flow of commodities through the supply chain. This induces competition among workers at a node to manage these two types of links within fixed constraints and creates bargaining to decide the optimal degree of both types of links at a node. We use the Nash security point to obtain the bargaining solution describing the optimal links. We reduce the carrying cost and ordering cost of inventory, which are contrary in their nature by introducing horizontal and vertical links, respectively. We modify the total cost function and establish a new economic order quantity (EOQ), optimal shortage quantity, and total optimal cost in terms of the optimal degree of H and V cooperation.

Opis:
Acceptance sampling by attributes is a universally used statistical tool for quality control. It is a technique that deals with the decision to accept or reject a batch of goods using defined procedures. An attribute single sampling plan designed under the assumption that the number of defects has a Poisson distribution is the optimal plan whenever the chance of a defect occurring in the manufacturing process is low. This study introduces the incorporation of an attribute single sampling plan minimizing the sum of risks with an economic order quantity (EOQ) model taking into account the possibility of trade credit. The plan ensures the effectiveness of the optimal design based on the minimization of costs including the inspection costs, stock holding costs and ordering costs.

Opis:
In this paper, the effect of initial density distribution upon the predicted density via numerical simulations of bone remodeling was evaluated. The main purpose was to correlate the numerical results with clinical data according to which the initial bone quantity is an essential factor for long term survival of dental implants. Methods: Two-strain energy density-based bone remodeling theories were employed, one which accounts for overload resorption and the second one, which does not. The remodeling parameters were derived from the mechanostat theory. Bone remodeling around an osseointegrated dental implant was simulated based on finite element method using a generic mandible plane model. A variable time step was introduced to increase the speed of the remodeling simulations by keeping the truncation errors small. The simulations were performed for several initial density distributions correlated with values from clinical classifications of bone quality. For each density value, the occlusal load was defined in two ways so that to consider normal and overload mastication forces, respectively. Results: The results showed that the initial density distribution influences the predictions of bone remodeling simulations. For the analyzed model, the remodeling algorithm predicted overload resorption only in the case of low initial density, which can be associated with low bone quality, which, from clinical perspective, may probably lead to implant loss. Conclusions: The paper demonstrated that when simulating bone remodeling around dental implants using finite element method, it is important to account for initial density distribution in correlation with the bone quantity.
