Opis:
In order to deal with undesirable products in models of performance analysis, we need to replace the assumption of free disposability by weak disposability and this assumption has been used to model undesirable products as outputs. The traditional axiom of weak disposability of Shephard (1970) is given in a multiplier form and, in this sense, the level of bad outputs is equal to zero if and only if the level of the desirable outputs is equal to zero. An alternative definition of the weak disposability of outputs in additive form has been proposed. An axiomatic foundation has been introduced to construct a new production technology space in the presence of undesirable outputs. The model is illustrated using real data from 92 coal fired power plants.

Opis:
The flotation froth surface appearance includes remarkable information, which can be employed as a helpful index for the qualitative evaluation of the process efficiency. Image analysis is a practical technology for the sake of achieving process related information that can be employed in expert controllers in order to amend flotation performance. In this paper, the intelligent modelling of relationship between froth characteristics and the metallurgical performance in a pilot column flotation of iron ore was established. Column flotation tests were carried out at a wide range of operating conditions and the froth features along with the metallurgical performances were specified for each run. The artificial intelligence models suggested for the performance parameters prediction include (1) multi-layer back propagation neural network (BPNN), (2) hybrid BPNN with principal component analysis (PCA). The hybrid network was on the basis of the PCA employment in order to decrease the number of variables to be given as input for BPNN. The relationships between the froth features and metallurgical performance factors were successfully modelled via the use of the two methods. The simulation results revealed that the prediction precision of BPNN model on the basis of all the data was relatively higher than the estimation precision of BPNN based on PCA algorithm. The Hybrid BPNN model that was trained by the pre-processed database of measurements achieved from the PCA can be considered a robust method when training time is of paramount importance in objectives of proces control.

Opis:
Telecommunication companies have an important role in technology development, so evaluating the performance of these companies has been an interest of managers. This article uses a hybrid method using data envelopment analysis (DEA) and the best-worst method (BWM) to measure the performance of communication companies. The hybrid DEA-BWM method is used for the weight determination and performance assessment of 17 telecommunication contractor firms in the Khorsan Razavi province of Iran. We considered four inputs: gross losses, sales cost, legal reserve, and fixed assets. On the other side, three outputs including operation income, operation profit, and retained earnings are considered as outputs. Considering the input-output parameters and using the hybrid method by seven selected criteria, we rank all contractor firms. We found that the BPM firm has the best performance while and GKS firm is found as the firm with the weakest performance. Compared with the classical DEA methods, we found more reliable results with higher discrimination power, using the hybrid DEA-BWM.

Opis:
The effectiveness of the whip-like coordination in throwing might be influenced by the inertial properties of the athlete’s arm. This preliminary study investigated the acute effect of attaching mass to the upper arm on the distance achieved in a modified javelin throw. The aim was to identify the optimum upper arm mass that maximizes throw distance. Methods: Three well-trained adult male athletes performed maximum-effort throws with an 800-g javelin training ball. A wide range of masses (0–1.5 kg) were attached to the upper arm and a 2D video analysis was used to obtain measures of the projection variables for each attached mass. Results: All three athletes showed an effect of attached arm mass on throw distance, and with the optimum mass the athlete’s throw distance was increased by 2.2 m, 1.2 m, and 0 m (7%, 4%, and 0%), respectively. The optimum mass was specific to the athlete (0.6 kg, 0.2 kg, and 0 kg) and changes in throw distance were mostly due to changes in release velocity rather than changes in release angle or release height. The experimental results were broadly similar to those obtained using a simple 2D mathematical model of throwing. Conclusions: These results indicate that some javelin throwers might see an increase in throwing performance when a mass is attached to their upper arm. However, the relationship between upper arm mass and throwing performance should be investigated further with studies on more athletes, projectiles of different mass, and other throwing events.
