Opis:
This study aimed to show the flotation behavior of a nickel sulfide ore in a cyclonic flotation column. The flotation experiments were carried out using a sample of nickel sulfide ore obtained from a mineral processing plant of China. Representative samples collected from the feed, concentrate, tailing, and circulation middling were sieved using a cyclonic particle analyzer to collect different size fractions for analysis. The function of the column cyclonic zone of was evaluated by comparing the quality of tailing and circulation middling. The flotation results showed that the concentrate with Ni grade of 1.78% and recovery of 65.56% was obtained under given test conditions. The content of main sulfide minerals and coarse particles in the circulation middling was higher than that in the tailing. The results indicated that, unlike conventional cyclone classification, separation achieved in the cyclonic zone of the column was not dependent on the particle size and density. Sulfide minerals with good floatability were easily captured by bubbles and moved toward the center of the column, even if these particles were coarser and heavier.

Opis:
Froth flotation of copper-zinc-lead ores is a complex process based on similar metallurgy processing and strong interactions between chalcopyrite and sphalerite. These types of ores represent 15% of the world production and 7.5% of copper deposits all over the world. In the present study, an attempt is made to assess the feasibility of froth flotation of a complex sulphide ore, where the effect of liberation grade as well as depressant, collector and frother dosage was studied. Copper flotation is dependent on the mineral liberation grade, which is significantly related with the size distribution. It was shown that longer grinding time increased the Cu grade but decreased the copper recovery due to the presence of very fine particles. Lime and sodium metabisulphite, used as depressants, allowed to achieve a good flotation performance. It was shown that for this type of ore lower dosage of the collector should be applied. Finally, a higher frother dosage led to a greater selectivity and reduced entrainment of very fine particles, but also caused low kinetic ratio and low recovery of valuable minerals. A well-defined flotation objective was imperative for a good liberation grade and reagents dosage selection, mainly for complex sulphide ores. A useful contribute was given to a better technical understanding of flotation of a complex sulphide ore from the Moinho deposit.

This papers shows that frothers such as aliphatic alcohols (CnH2n+1OH), poly(propylene glycols) (HO(C3H6O)mH), poly(propylene glycol) alkyl ethers (CnH2n+1O(C3H6O)mH) and poly(ethylene glycol) alkyl ethers (CnH2n+1O(C2H4O)mH), can be used for collectorless flotation of a sample of carbonaceous copper shale manually separated from the Kupferschiefer stratiform copper ore. It was shown that flotation is influenced by the type and dose of frothers. The best flotation results were obtained with tri(propylene glycol) butyl ether C4P3, tri(propylene glycol) propyl ether C3P3 and tri(propylene glycol) P3. For these frothers, the yield vs. frother dose relationship was in the form of convex curves indicating that carbonaceous copper shale can float at relatively low dosages of the frother. It means that these frothers can be used for pre-flotation of carbonaceous matter from the investigated copper ore. Other frothers formed concave yield–frother dose relationships and were less effective.

Opis:
In this study, it was discovered that a mixture of dodecylamine (DDA)-kerosene demonstrated a stronger collecting ability for pure quartz and higher selectivity for magnetite ore. The relationship between the DDA-kerosene composition and mineral flotation performance on reverse flotation of magnetite ore was investigated. The results showed that floatability of the floating material increased when the DDA consumption increased. Specifically, during flotation, the fine particles (-0.074 mm fraction) selectively floated with DDA-kerosene. The difficult to float coarser particles (+0.074 mm fraction) with high content of quartz, required higher DDA dosage. However, higher DDA input during the flotation process did not necessarily yield better outcomes. The best results were obtained for 40/60 amine-to-oil ratio, as the quartz floated markedly with smaller magnetite loss and the flotation behavior was superior to pure DDA. Magnetite concentrates with 1.83% SiO2 and 71.04% Fe were produced using 120 g/Mg of DDA-kerosene (WDDA=40%).

Opis:
The Cerattepe (Artvin) mine contains volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits in northeastern Turkey. This is a kuroko type deposit located in Late Cretaceous volcanic, intrusive and sedimentary rocks, and has a structure with dense alteration stages. In this study, batch flotation tests were carried out to determine the flotation behavior of a new sample (mix ore), that was the combination of two different ores with different flotation behaviors. The mixed ore contains 2.18% Cu, 1.46% Zn, (Cu/Zn ratio 1.49) 38.35% Fe, and 41.6% S content. An efficient separation of copper minerals from zinc minerals using the conventional selective flotation method could not be achieved due to complex mineralogy and very low liberation degree. Therefore, sequential selective flotation resulted in poor Cu recovery. The effects of flotation parameters such as collector type, collector amount, particle size, and pH conditions, were investigated to obtain a bulk copper-zinc concentrate. The best results were obtained using thionocarbamate (Aero 3894) and dithiophosphine (Aerophine 3418A) collector reagents at d80=40 μm particle size. Under optimal conditions (grain size, d80=40 μm, pH=11, amount of collector reagent 60 g/t (Aero 3894), frother (MIBC)=50 g/t, solid ratio=32%, flotation time=8 min.), a bulk copper-zinc concentrate containing 13% Cu and 9.5% Zn was obtained with a copper yield of 84.4% and a zinc yield of 88.9%. The concentrate mass pull was 13%. After rougher and two-stage scavenger flotation, a concentrate (rougher concentrate + scavenger products) was obtained with a mass pull of 22%. Copper and zinc recoveries of this concentrate were 91.8% and 92.5%, respectively.

Accuracy of determination of different separation parameters and selectivity indicators depends on the error of chemical analysis of feed and separation products as well as experimental and approximation errors. In this paper different selectivity parameters were considered which formulae was based on the content of useful component in the feed, concentrate and tailing. It was shown that the impact of chemical analysis on the selectivity parameters was small and the error determined by means of partial derivative approach for a copper ore upgraded by flotation was negligible. Also experimental errors were found to be insignificant. The largest errors occurred for approximation of the upgrading data with inadequately selected selectivity indicators.

Opis:
In this work, a role of sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) in the flotation performance of a nickel ore was studied and mechanism was discussed in detail. The results showed that the presence of lizardite interferes with the flotation performance of pentlandite. The adsorption of SHMP at the lizardite/solution interface and the removal of magnesium ions from lizardite surface overcompensated the positive charge on the lizardite particle, and made its zeta potential negative. The interaction between lizardite and pentlandite changed from attractive to repulsive in the presence of SHMP. Thus, the addition of SHMP made the mixed sample of pentlandite and lizardite more dispersed, and significantly reduced the adverse effect of lizardite on the flotation of pentlandite. However, when the content of lizardite in the mixed ore was increased, the effect of SHMP weakened. Therefore, in flotation of a nickel ore containing a large amount of lizardite (46% w/w), SHMP usage is not suitable at the roughing stage due to the fact that lizardite in the pulp will consume most of the SHMP, and hence the removal of lizardite slimes from pentlandite surface become impossible. Based upon the results, SHMP usage is found to be suitable at the cleaning stage to improve the grade of concentrate.

The Chelopech epithermal arsenic bearing high-sulphidation, copper-gold deposit located in Bulgaria is often considered as the richest European gold deposit. Selected physicochemical parameters have been measured at key flotation streams inside the processing plant. Sampling campaign has followed with samples being submitted to chemical and mineral liberation analyses. A quantitative analysis has enabled to link copper flotation response to the type of copper bearing minerals and physiochemical parameters such as redox potential (Eh), dissolved oxygen (DO), EDTA extractable Cu and Fe. Data from the mineral liberation analysis (MLA) have highlighted an important process- relevant information explaining the variable floatability in different particle size ranges. A low chalcopyrite recovery can be linked to the non-sufficient amount of dissolved oxygen inside the copper selective flotation. Given the finely-disseminated copper bearing minerals, copper losses due to particle locking could be suggested as well.

In this study, three kinds of nanoparticles (SiO2, Fe2O3, and Al2O3) were used in the flotation of a sulphide ore to investigate the effects of nanoparticles on the froth stability and the flotation performance. The dynamic froth stability factor and the maximum froth depth were measured by using a non-overflowing flotation cell under various flotation conditions. The results were also related to the separation selectivity and efficiency of the flotation. The experimental results showed that the dynamic froth stability factor and the maximum froth depth can be increased 1.2-2 fold by using the Al2O3 nanoparticles. These increments led to significant improve in the froth recovery. In terms of the froth stability and the flotation performance, the Al2O3 nanomaterial was the best, followed by Fe2O3 and SiO2. In addition, the flotation recovery increased from 83 to 91%, and the grade of the concentrate increased from 44 to 60% by using the Al2O3 nanoparticles.

Opis:
Currently, a small range of commercial collectors is available for the use in reverse iron ore flotation at Vale. This input represents a considerable unit cost, being essential for the concentration of low content itabiritic iron ores. The present work evaluated the reverse cationic flotation of an itabiritic ore with low iron content (39.6 % Fe) from the Iron Quadrangle (BR) in bench scale tests, focusing on the use of new collectors to remove coarse quartz. The sample presents 19% of its particles as oversize in the 0.150 mm sieve. The poor flotation of coarse quartz particles (>0.150 mm) causes significant problems in various iron ore flotation circuits by contaminating the concentrate. The study evaluated the performance of 10 new collectors from the etheramine family with different degrees of neutralization and at different collector dosages. The flotation process variables were set as industrially practiced at the Cauê iron ore plant (BR). In tests varying the specific collector dosage, the nonneutralized etheramines showed improved performance compared to the current 50% neutralized etheramine used in the plant, achieving industrial targets: concentrate SiO2 content rate lower than 4.5% (1.4%), tailings iron content lower than 23% (18.94%), metallurgical recovery greater than 66% (74,8%), and Gaudin Selectivity Index greater than 6.6 (10.5). The 0.150 mm oversize in the concentrate, mostly coarse quartz particles, was reduced from 5.7% down to 1.2%, indicating the potential for the industrial application of non-neutralized etheramines in the recovery of coarse quartz.

It is necessary to exploit an easy and effective way to obtain flotation collector. In this paper, oleic acid was modified by oxidation reaction to obtain an excellent collector. The flotation performances of oleic acid and its oxidation products were systematically investigated and a novel collector ((E)-8,11-dihydroperoxyoctadec-9-enoic acid, EDEA) was obtained. Single mineral flotation tests results showed that EDEA had strong flotation power towards quartz at pH>11 and hardly floated hematite and magnetite at pH=8~13. The recovery of quartz could achieve 92.35% with 120 mg/L EDEA under the condition of pH=12 and dosage of $CaCl_2$ 60mg/L while the recovery was 62.44% with 120 mg/L oleic acid. Bench scale flotation tests results showed that EDEA had a preferable effect on separating quartz from iron ore especially at low flotation temperature (288K). The mechanism research revealed that EDEA attracted on quartz surface through electrostatic attraction and the neighboring EDEA molecules could form intermolecular hydrogen bonds which resulted in a closer alignment of EDEA on quartz surface.

Iron ores located in the Alswaween area (Saudi Arabia) are of finely disseminated nature. They require ultrafine grinding for considerable degree of liberation. In this paper, different upgrading tech-niques were tried for their processing. The applied upgrading techniques included selective flocculation and column flotation as recent efficient technologies in fines upgrading. Each technique was investigated and optimized separately. Results showed that neither selective flocculation nor column flotation can be successfully used alone to produce high quality iron concentrate especially when using iron ore of size fraction 100% -0.075 mm. The best quality concentrate was found to have 55% Fe and 57% Fe when applying selective flocculation and column flotation, respectively at their optimum operating conditions. Meanwhile, the previously obtained results can be significantly improved when grinding the ore below 45 μm and applying selective flocculation as cleaning step for the concentrate obtained from the column flotation. Thus, it is possible to obtain concentrate having iron content of 63.55% Fe with 52.3% yield, which means an iron recovery in concentrate of ~80%.

This research work introduces a novel hybrid geometallurgical approach to develop a deep and comprehensive relationship between geological and mining characteristics with metallurgical parameters in a mineral processing plant. This technique involves statistically screening mineralogical and operational parameters using the Historical Data (HD) method. Further, it creates an intelligent bridge between effective parameters and metallurgical responses by the Deep Learning (DL) simulation method. In the HD method, the time and cost of common approaches in geometallurgical studies were minimized through the use of available archived data. Then, the generated DL-based predictive model was enabled to accurately forecast the process behavior in the mineral processing units. The efficiency of the proposed method for a copper ore sample was practically evaluated. For this purpose, six representative samples from different active mining zone were collected and used for flotation tests organized using a randomizing code. The experimental results were then statistically analyzed using HD method to assess the significance of mineralogical and operational parameters, including the proportions of effective minerals, particle size, collector and frother concentration, solid content and pH. Based on the HD analysis, the metallurgical responses including the copper grade and recovery, copper kinetics constant and iron grade in concentrate were modeled with an accuracy of about 90%. Next, the geometallurgical model of the process was developed using the long short-term memory neural network (LSTM) algorithm. The results showed that the studied metallurgical responses could be predicted with more than 95% accuracy. The results of this study showed that the hybrid geometallurgy approach can be used as a promising tool to achieve a reliable relationship between the mining and mineral processing sectors, and sustainable and predictable production.

The reverse anionic flotation is commonly used to upgrade the mid-low grade phosphate ore in China. The mineral characterization of raw ore shows that carbonate and phosphate minerals combined with fine intergrowth, difficulty in upgrading. Flotation using nanobubbles (NBs) can significantly enhance the flotation efficiency of fine particles of minerals. To research the effect of NBs on the flotation process of this phosphate ore, two flotation tests with and without NBs were compared. The results show that the MgO removal had an increment of 10% in the case of NBs flotation versus conventional flotation in the approximate grade and recovery of P2O5. The foam product of NBs flotation had smaller dimensions than the conventional flotation. NBs enhanced the contact angle on dolomite surface from 45.8 ° to 64.5 °, and increases the d50 of dolomite from 20.49 µm to 30.43 µm.
