Opis:
This research involves a fixed wavelength and dual-wavelength ratio temperature measurement for helical long-period grating. There are two resonant dips near 1475 and 1520 nm, with the pitch length 782 μm. The temperature sensitivity of resonance wavelengths is about 0.06 nm/°C. Both theoretical simulation and experiment results show that the transmission of a fixed wavelength linearly changes with the temperature. It has a high application value for measuring temperature. Besides, the dual-wavelength ratio is studied to eliminate the influence of light source. The temperature sensitivity of transmission intensity ratio of I1469.6nm/I0 and I1469.6nm/I1526.5nm are about 1.0076/°C and 0.0155/°C, respectively, so the dual-wavelength ratio is more practical. And the 0.0155 times intensity change could be much more easily measured than the 0.06 nm wavelength change for each degree Celsius. So the dual-wavelength ratio of the helical long-period gratings is very suitable for temperature sensors.

Opis:
A fiber Brag grating-based high temperature sensor together with a low cost, high speed and compact size interrogation system using a long period grating was designed, developed and tested. The designed sensor measures the temperature from room temperature to 550 °C. The sensor head was configured by encapsulating an fiber Brag grating (type-I) of Bragg resonance wavelength at 1552.88 nm in a capillary tube made of copper. Long period grating with peak transmission loss at 1550 nm was employed to convert the wavelength information from fiber Brag grating into an intensity modulated signal. Temperature related optical intensity information was again converted into its equivalent electrical signal by using a photodiode. The achieved resolution of the sensor was found to be 0.5 °C.

Opis:
The single-mode fiber provided by YOFC inc is employed for spiral processing by commercial welding machine. It can clearly see the periods structure under the light, but there is no obvious deformation of the fiber core, cladding and surface morphology under a microscope. There is an obvious resonant peak near 1560 nm, half peak width is about 25 nm, the depth of the resonant peak closed to –26 dB, when the period is about 411 μm. It agrees with theoretical calculation results according to the long-period fiber grating coupled-mode theory. The resonance wavelength is caused by coupling between the fundamental mode and the LP14 mode. The responsivities of the helically twisted long-period fiber gratings (H-LPFG) for the temperature is measured, the resonance wavelength is linear with temperature, the slope is 86 pm/°C. Because it is easy to inscribe by commercial welding machine, and has a strong resonance peak, it has potential applications as the temperature sensor.

Opis:
This paper studies the relationship between transmission intensity and strain based on tapered long-period fiber grating at a fixed wavelength. In experiments, tapered long-period fiber grating was prepared by the electric melting method. Experimental results show that two resonance peaks appeared at 1482 and 1537 nm, respectively. Here is the elaboration of the relationship between the resonant wavelength and the strain, its wavelength-strain sensitivity is 20 pm/με, and the linearity was negative. Then our next study was about the relationship between transmission intensity and strain at a fixed wavelength. The results show that the transmission intensity at a fixed wavelength is related to the exponent with strain. The coupled-mode theory is applied to simulate the relationship between fixed wavelength and strain. The simulation results matched the experimental results. Two fixed wavelength transmission intensity ratio was used, and the ratio showed a linear relationship with the strain, and the slope is –0.018 dB/με. Therefore, within the 0.01% resolution of our detector, we could resolve a 0.16 με strain change. We can select the appropriate light source and detector to achieve higher measurement accuracy. Thus, there is a great potential in fiber grating strain sensors.
