Opis:
A considerable interest is growing worldwide about the photobiological effects of the ultraviolet radiation; in fact, it has been demonstrated that ultraviolet radiation can affect both human health as well as the equilibrium of entire ecosystems. The relative effectiveness of ultraviolet radiation at a particular wavelength in producing a specific biological response is defined by an action spectrum. Broadband radiometers characterized by having a spectral response that matches an action spectrum allow the measure of the effective irradiance associated to an ultraviolet source. In this work we present the designs of interference filters to be used in radiometric heads. Their optimized transmission curve coupled to the spectral response of different ultraviolet photodiodes provides the match of the sensor spectral response with some selected action spectra. Development of instruments for the measurement of the effective solar irradiance is foreseen. The design of interferential filters which transmittance curve was optimized in order to match a target biological action spectrum is here presented.

Opis:
The effective work of optical systems, applied in advanced optic and optoelectronic devices, requires antireflective coatings. In this work we focus on designing the bilayer system dedicated to work as a narrow-band filter within UV range of electromagnetic spectrum. Such coatings are applied in lasers where reduction in reflection to a small value at any single wavelength is needed. The bilayer system is based on GdF3 and MgF2 used as materials with middle and low refractive index. The multilayers were obtained by thermal evaporation on a highly purified CaF2 substrates. The spectral dispersion of the refractive index of single layers has been determined by ellipsometric measurements. Thicknesses of single layers included in the bilayer system, aimed to work at specific wavelength, have been optimized based on optical characteristics simulation, including experimentally measured values of the refractive indices. During the deposition, layer thickness and deposition rate were controlled with Inficon XTC/2 thickness measuring system. Optical properties of obtained GdF3/MgF2 bilayer systems have been determined based on spectral dependences of reflectance and transmittance measured with the application of a spectrophotometer. The crystal structure and phase composition of the films have been examined by X-ray diffraction. The result of studies revealed that proper optimization of thicknesses of individual layers creating GdF3/MgF2 bilayer systems makes it possible to obtain the antireflective coating for desired wavelength of electromagnetic spectrum. The GdF3/MgF2 antireflective bilayer will be applied as a narrow-band filter for 238 nm irradiation produced by gas-ion/BBO crystal laser.

Opis:
A novel design of a double selective filter for integrated optics in two-dimensional photonic crystals operating at a wavelength of 1.31 and 1.55 µm is proposed in this paper. We focus particularly on filters transmission and selectivity enhancement. The two-dimensional photonic crystals filters are simulated by using a combination of three cascaded waveguides; these later are conceived by one missing row and with different rods radii for efficient filtering purpose. The properties of these photonic crystal structures are numerically investigated by using the two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method and the numerical results are given for incident light wave having transverse electrical polarization. A final synthesized filter topology is presented and the maximum of transmission is found around 70% and 60% localized respectively near 1.31 and 1.55 µm wavelengths.

Opis:
A sensorless indirect stator-flux-oriented control (ISFOC) induction motor drive at very low frequencies is presented herein. The model reference adaptive system (MRAS) scheme is used to estimate the speed and the rotor resistance simultaneously. However, the error between the reference and the adjustable models, which are developed in the stationary stator reference frame, is used to drive a suitable adaptation mechanism that generates the estimates of speed and the rotor resistance from the stator voltage and the machine current measurements. The stator flux components in the stationary reference frame are estimated through a pure integration of the back electro-motive force (EMF) of the machine. When the machine is operated at low speed, the pure integration of the back EMF introduces an error in flux estimation which affects the performance torque and speed control. To overcome this problem, pure integration is replaced with a programmable cascaded low-pass filter (PCLPF). The stability analysis method of the MRAS estimator is verified in order to show the robustness of the rotor resistance variations. Experimental results are presented to prove the effectiveness and validity of the proposed scheme of sensorless ISFOC induction motor drive.

Opis:
runs are achieved when the highest flow through the most recently backwashed filter and the highest available head loss coincide. This rule has previously been published by Dąbrowski, who used a simplified mathematical model of VDR filters developed by Di Bernardo. However, until now no experimental verification of this optimisation approach has been presented. A series of tests were carried out on a laboratory VDR filter plant, using a suspension collected from an industrial sedimentation tank and using alum as a coagulant. The results of the experiments were compared with computations carried out according to a combined unit bed element (UBE)-phenomenological model of deep bed filtration adapted to VDR operation by Mackie and Zhao. It was confirmed that the longest filtration runs did indeed correspond to the pairs of the highest H and q1/qavr. The UBE-phenomenological model of deep bed filtration gave results of computations quite close to experimental results and improved the accuracy of calculations based on the theoretical model by Di Bernardo.
