Opis:
This paper is centred on a binary classification problem in which it is desired to assign a new object with multivariate features to one of two distinct populations as based on historical sets of samples from two populations. A linear discriminant analysis framework has been proposed, called the minimised sum of deviations by proportion (MSDP) to model the binary classification problem. In the MSDP formulation, the sum of the proportion of exterior deviations is minimised subject to the group separation constraints, the normalisation constraint, the upper bound constraints on proportions of exterior deviations and the sign unrestriction vis-à-vis the non-negativity constraints. The two-phase method in linear programming is adopted as a solution technique to generate the discriminant function. The decision rule on group-membership prediction is constructed using the apparent error rate. The performance of the MSDP has been compared with some existing linear discriminant models using a previously published dataset on road casualties. The MSDP model was more promising and well suited for the imbalanced dataset on road casualties.

In this paper, the influence of a zero and a non-zero boresight pointing errors on the performances of free-space optic transmission over the Málaga atmospheric turbulence channel is considered. Closed form expressions for a zero boresight channel model probability density function, non-zero boresight channel model probability density function, as well as a bit-error rate over a binary phase shift keying modulation transmission are provided. Numerical results for zero and non-zero boresight pointing errors are graphically presented.

Opis:
In this paper, performance analysis of free space optical (FSO) system operating in conditions of strong atmospheric turbulence over Gamma–Chi-square turbulence model, has been carried out. We have observed reception over multi-pulse pulse-position (MPPM) modulation format for the case of strong atmospheric turbulence conditions modeled with Gamma–Chi-square turbulence model and have compared it with turbulence modeling distributions such are: Gamma–Gamma distribution, K-distribution, negative exponential distribution, log–normal distribution. First, we have provided closed-form analytical expressions for average bit error rate (ABER) at the reception for each observed case and then based on them, we have obtained numerical and Monte Carlo simulation results in order to observe turbulence level impact on system performance.

Opis:
In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of our optimized non-zero dispersion shifted fiber with three different test fibers, namely, single mode fiber, conventional non-zero dispersion shifted fiber and dispersion shifted fiber. While comparing the performances of those fibers, our optimized non-zero dispersion shifted fiber has yielded a better quality factor of 5.24 at 2.5 Gbit/s for long haul fiber length of 120 km in the absence of amplification and dispersion compensation. In order to measure the nonlinear impairments of wavelength division multiplexing channel, the quality factor values are measured at the sample channel 193.1 THz for 150 km lengthed fiber with peak input power of 6 dBm. Due to a very large effective area of optimized non-zero dispersion shifted fiber, it delivers a better quality factor of 6.12 compared to the other test fibers. We have also carried out the analysis for higher bitrates and different modulation formats at the transmission end. More phase encoded modulations of carrier-suppressed return-to-zero–differentiated phase shift keying and carrier-suppressed return-to-zero–differential quadrature phase shift keying offered optimum performances for a distance of 120 km at 10 Gbit/s bitrate. By including optical amplifiers, we could achieve a record fiber transmission length of 4000 km at the bitrate of 2.5 Gbit/s which can help the future wavelength division multiplexing optical networks to a great extent.

Opis:
To meet the needs of future wireless optical networks, this paper introduces a high-speed, hybrid multiplexed, coherent free-space optical (FSO) communication system that integrates an orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexed signal with an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique. Two independent QAM polarized beams, each carrying in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) phase 16-QAM-OFDM modulated data, are combined using mode division multiplexing (MDM) to increase the capacity of the proposed system. The reason of choosing OFDM is its capability to support higher data rate, and mitigating intersymbol interference (ISI). The signal is detected using a coherent detection-based digital signal processing (DSP) algorithm at the receiver end. The proposed hybrid FSO system is evaluated in low and heavy dust environments using bit error rate (BER), link distance, optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR), and received optical power performance matrices. The simulation results demonstrate the successful transmission of a 120 Gb/s single carrier over the longest link ranges of 1.5 and 0.40 km, respectively, under low and heavy dust weather environments below the signal degradation threshold value (forward error correction (FEC) limit) of BER 2.2 × 10–3 in strong turbulent conditions.
