Opis:
Viscosity and density of copper electrorefining electrolytes affect energy consumption and purity of cathode copper. Decreasing the viscosity and density increases the rate of falling of the anode slimes to the bottom of an electrorefining cell and increases the diffusivity and mobility of ions. Increasing the falling rate of the anode slimes decreases a risk of anode slime impurities ending up on the cathode and being entrapped into the copper deposit. This work introduces two new models for both viscosity and density of copper electrorefining electrolytes with high accuracy and one reconstructed improved model for some electrorefining data of viscosity published previously. The experimental work to build up these new models was carried out as a function of temperature (50, 60, 70 °C), copper (40, 50, 60 g/dm3), nickel (0, 10, 20 g/dm3) and sulfuric acid (130, 145, 160 g/dm3) concentrations for all models, and additionally arsenic concentration (0, 15, 30, 32, 64 g/dm3) was included in the viscosity models. Increasing concentrations of Cu, Ni, As and H2SO4 were found to increase the viscosity and density, whereas increasing temperature decreased both viscosity and density. The viscosity models were validated with industrial electrolyte samples from the Boliden Harjavalta Pori tankhouse. The experimental and modeling work carried out in this study resulted in improved viscosity models, having the strongest agreement with the industrial electrorefining electrolytes.

Opis:
A speed-density model can be utilised to efficiently flow pedestrians in a network. However, how each model measures and optimises the performance of the network is rarely reported. Thus, this paper analyses and optimises the flow in a topological network using various speed-density models. Each model was first used to obtain the optimal arrival rates to all individual networks. The optimal value of each network was then set as a flow constraint in a network flow model. The network flow model was solved to find the optimal arrival rates to the source networks. The optimal values were then used to measure their effects on the performance of each available network. The performance results of the model were then compared with that of other speed-density models. The analysis of the results can help decision-makers understand how arrival rates propagate through traffic and determine the level of the network throughputs.

Opis:
The present work aims to propose a new analytical model intended to predict the water retention curves for granular materials based on data from tensiometric tests. Different analytical models have been used for the evaluation of soil water retention curves so far. It should be noted that the proposed model considers only one criterion in the selection of soils. This criterion is the physical property of particle distribution curve that can be used to determine the values of D50 and CU. In this study, the pore-access size distribution is investigated considering the effect of the coefficient of uniformity of sandy soils that were prepared with different density indexes (0.5, 0.7, and 0.9). Moreover, the proposed model equation is based on the physical properties of soil. This equation made it possible to describe the water retention curve and to estimate the pore-access size distribution without performing any experimental tests. The findings allowed asserting that the uniformity of the particle size curves corresponds to a good uniformity of the pore-access size distribution. In addition, it was revealed that the suction increased as the density index went up, which matches well with the experimental data. Moreover, it may clearly be noted that the distinctive retention properties of unsaturated soils can be observed on the above-mentioned curves. Further, it was found that the ratio of the grain size over the pore-access size increased as the uniformity coefficient augmented.
