Opis:
One of the most difficult tasks encountered when implementing waste management practices in Turkey involves the selection of the most suitable area for a landfill. The Geographic Information System (GIS) which possesses the ability to imitate and process economic and environmental constraints, presents itself as a useful and effective decision support tool. This study will utilize the GIS to determine feasible alternative landfill areas on the European side of Istanbul, which has a high density population, showing that accurate selection results can be achieved at lower cost.

Opis:
Integrated procedures of analysis have been presented combining both reliability and economical aspects of operation of a water supply system (WSS). The method presented is a practical application of the reliability analysis and life-cycle costing which is a part of a decision support system (DSS) for WSS. It focuses on undisturbed operation of systems with exceeded redundant capacity minding system's reliable and lower possible operational costs. The proposed analytical approach is shown on the example of the surface water intake which is the first subsystem of WSS influencing operation of a whole system. As a part of the study, reliability and economic assessments of various variants of future operation of water intake have been carried out as a basis for choosing most advantageous solution. The authors indicate how exceeded redundant capacity affects applied maintenance method of the system. All calculations of the reliability indicators are based on operating data contained in exploitation logs (2001-2012). The costs have been estimated based on the obtained financial documentation.

Opis:
Design of control sequences for discrete event systems (DESs) has been presented modelled by untimed Petri nets (PNs). PNs are well-known mathematical and graphical models that are widely used to describe distributed DESs, including choices, synchronizations and parallelisms. The domains of application include, but are not restricted to, manufacturing systems, computer science and transportation networks. We are motivated by the observation that such systems need to plan their production or services. The paper is more particularly concerned with control issues in uncertain environments when unexpected events occur or when control errors disturb the behaviour of the system. To deal with such uncertainties, a new approach based on discrete time Markov decision processes (MDPs) has been proposed that associates the modelling power of PNs with the planning power of MDPs. Finally, the simulation results illustrate the benefit of our method from the computational point of view.

Opis:
One of the major problems human beings are confronted with in urban setting is the removal of urban waste. This problem has persuaded the urban authorities to use various tools such as Geographic Information System (GIS) to locate landfills. To do that, Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) has been used in which or multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods and GIS are combined. The selection of the burial place and landfill has great importance and different criteria must be considered. SDSS, using MCDM is able to investigate locating landfill using various criteria simultaneously and it determines its importance. This research aims at presenting suitable solution through using computer and GIS related to solid urban waste and their locating in Hamadan based on standard criteria. A comprehensive model based on GIS, to get the suitable burial place and landfill can help to save time and cost. The model of locating burial place of urban solid waste has been presented.
