Opis:
This paper researched the influence of the polysaccharide polymer sodium alginate (SAG) on the depression of talc at a fixed room temperature about 25 °C through micro flotation and batch flotation experiments, zeta potential and contact angle measurements as well as infrared spectroscopy analysis. The flotation results displayed that the SAG had a significant influence on the flotation of talc but less influence on sulphide flotation. Compared with the depressant carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and guar gum, using of the SAG gave the highest copper recovery. It could not only eliminate a talc removal step, but also significantly decrease in the depressant consumption by half at least. Sodium alginate apparently adsorbs on the talc surface and promotes hydrophilization, as revealed by contact angle tests (contact angle decreased from 75 to 33° after treating with SAG). It is demonstrated that the SAG obviously absorbed at the surface of talc but rarely for chalcopyrite through the results of zeta potential measurements and infrared spectroscopy analysis.

Opis:
Adherent anode slimes can cause anode passivation in copper electrorefining and lower the efficiency of copper electrorefining. Declining concentrate grades cause larger impurity levels in anodes, thus creating larger quantities of slimes in the refining process. In order to investigate the characterization methods for adherent anode slimes in copper electrorefining, experiments were conducted for the Boliden Harjavalta Pori refinery material. Methods such as particle size determination, chemical (ICP) analysis, settling rate determination, XRD, SEM-SE, SEM-BSE and SEM-EDS were applied. In addition, adherent anode slime samples were compared to optical micrograph and SEM-BSE images of respective anode copper samples. It was shown that SEM-EDS and SEM-BSE provided precise information about phases formed during electrorefining. The settling rate and particle size had a correlation only with a copper content of anode slime. The main phases in the anode slime were copper and lead sulphates as well as copper-silver selenides. NiO was shown to be the major Ni-bearing phase in the adherent slime. Nickel, tellurium and lead had the strongest, whereas arsenic, selenium and antimony had the weakest tendency to report to the anode slime.

Opis:
The laboratory researches about the inhibiting effect of citric acid on the flotation performance of serpentine activated by Cu2+ and Ni2+ were carried out through micro flotation tests, zeta potential measurements, collector adsorption capacity measurements and solution chemistry analysis. The flotation results showed that Cu2+ and Ni2+ could remarkably activate the flotation of serpentine when the pH value was more than 6, however, this activation could be effectively weakened by adding citric acid. Zeta potential measurement and adsorption capacity measurement indicated that the presence of citric acid could prevent the adsorption of Cu2+ and Ni2+, and therefore reduce the adsorption amount of potassium butyl xanthate on serpentine surface. Furthermore, solution chemical analysis of the flotation system showed that copper hydroxide Cu(OH)2(s) and the nickel hydroxide Ni(OH)2(s) were the main component in the pH range of 9 to 10, which adsorbed onto serpentine surface and made it activated; while the citric acid could effectively prohibit the formation of these metal hydroxide in slurry so as to inhibit the activation impact.

An experimental study on leaching of cobalt and nickel from a Lubin (Poland) sulfide flotation copper concentrate with oxygenated sulphuric acid solution in the presence of iron(III) sulfate is presented. The effect of temperature, iron(III) concentration, initial sulphuric acid concentration, oxygen flow rate and chloride ions addition on cobalt and nickel leaching were examined. The obtained results show, that enhancing investigated leaching parameters increases both the rate and leaching recovery of nickel and cobalt. The effect of iron(III) ions concentration is particularly significant. Additionally, a significant correlation between copper and nickel/cobalt leaching recovery was observed. Due to the fine dissemination of nickel and cobalt, they were leached remarkably faster when copper leaching recovery exceeded 90%.

Opis:
The effect of Ag, Ni and Cu cyanides on gold adsorption on activated coconut carbon in cyanide leach solutions was investigated by synthetic cyanide leach solutions containing gold and other metal cyanides. According to the adsorption tests Ag remarkably reduces the gold adsorption on activated carbon by competing with gold to adsorption sites. When the Ag concentration in solution increases up to 200 ppm the carbon adsorption method for gold recovery becomes inapplicable. Ni has an effect on gold adsorption on activated carbon, however even at as high concentrations of Ni as 250 ppm residual Au in solution is still below 1 ppm. Cu addition up to 300 ppm does not affect the gold loading significantly. According to the adsorption test studies, it is concluded that the metal-cyanides diminish the gold adsorption on activated carbon by adsorbing themselves and competing with gold. When the metals are present in the leach solution all together with gold, they also prevent adsorption of themselves as well as gold. Thus, when Au, Ag, Ni and Cu are present in solution simultaneously, the adsorption of all these metals decreases. The adsorption results were modeled by Fleming k,n adsorption kinetic model.

Opis:
Sulphuric acid leach solution of waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) contains predominantly copper and iron with later remain problematic during electrowinning of the formal. In this study, performance of Dowex M 4195 resin for recovery of copper and nickel from polymetallic sulphate leach solution of waste PCBs was investigated by batch experiments. It was observed that at pH 0.5, about 45.2 and 3.6 % Cu2+ and Ni2+ was selectively recovered respectively. Recovery efficiency of Ni2+ increased with increase in pH from 0.5 -5.0 while pH2 was optimum for the recovery of Cu2+. Sharp increase in co-recovery of Fe3+/Fe2+ was observed at pH above 2 with that of Zn2+ and Co2+ became low due to hindrance from binding site by high concentration of Cu2+. Adsorption data obtained for Cu2+ and Ni2+ were tested with adsorption isotherms as well as kinetics. It is shown that adsorption of Cu2+2+ was well fitted to both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm. Kinetics of Cu2+ and Ni2+ fitted into Pseudo-first and well fitted to second order. Reuse studies shows that the resin strong affinities for Cu2+ and Ni2+ remain unchanged.

The transport of Cu(II) ions from an equimolar mixture of Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) ions as well as from solutions containing only Cu(II) ions in the feed phase through polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs) with aromatic β–diketones as carriers has been investigated. The polymer membranes consisted of polyvinylchloride (PVC) as the support, bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (ADO) as plasticizer, and aromatic β–diketones (benzoylacetone (1) and dibenzoylmethane (2)) as ion carriers. The transport selectivity of PIMs with 1 and 2 was: Cu(II) > Co(II) > Ni(II). The highest recovery factors of Cu(II) ions were observed for 1 (94.0%), whereas for Co(II) and Ni(II) the factors were 21.4 and 7.3%, respectively. The Cu(II)/Co(II) and Cu(II)/Ni(II) selectivity coefficients were equal to 8.9 and 33.7 (for 1), 6.4 and 28.3 (for 2), respectively.

Opis:
Comparative evaluation of metal occurrence was conducted for sludge originating from three wastewater treatment plants, which differ in wastewater treatment methods, processing and drying of sludge. It was demonstrated that metals (Zn, Cu, Ni, Pb, Cd, Cr) in sludge are mainly bound to organic-sulfide fraction. Zinc was also present in significant amounts in hydrated iron and manganese oxide fraction, nickel and cadmium in exchangeable-carbonate fraction, whereas lead in residue fraction. In ash obtained after calcination at 600 °C occurred mainly metal enriched nearly insoluble compound fraction (residual fraction). Metal accumulation in such non-mobile fraction is advantageous with respect to soil-water environment protection.

Opis:
The study was conducted on three specially prepared test areas along main streets of Bialystok. The experimental plots were sown with two lawn grass mixtures: Eko and Roadside, and three doses of sewage sludge 0.0 (control), 7.5 kg/m2 and 15.0 kg/m2 were used. The calculated bioconcentration factor made possible to determine the mobility of the various metals from the soil solution to the aerial parts of plants. The obtained results showed that the plants absorbed Cd, Zn, Cu easier than Pb and Ni suggesting a high mobility, in particular of Cd, Zn, Cu, and reflects the easiness extraction of those metals by plants. Significant correlations between concentrations of metals in soil and grass were observed, nickel in soil was significantly correlated with Cd, Zn and Cu in plants, while the Zn content in soil with the level of Cu in plants.
