Opis:
The significant recovery increase in flotation of fine particles using nanobubbles has been one of the major topics in flotation science in recent years. Fine bubbles have an important effect on gas hold-up, which is necessary in froth flotation of minerals based on the process industries. At a given gas hold-up, using finer bubbles can reduce frother consumption. An exclusive nanobubble generation system has been developed in Iran Mineral Processing Research Center (IMPRC) to evaluate the effect of nanobubbles on the froth flotation performance. This device, which enhanced venturi tubes, works according to cavitation phenomena. The venturi tube is the most widely used hydrodynamic cavitation device, in which liquid flow increases in the conical convergent zone of the tube due to the thin diameter. The liquid in the cylindrical throat is higher in a flow velocity and lower in a pressure than the liquid in the entrance cylinder, which results in cavitation. In this research work, various factors such as the frother type and dosage, pH, compressed air flow, pressure in cavitation nozzle, gas types, temperature and venturi tube internal diameter were studied. For this purpose, a five-level central composite experimental design was used to check the influence of four important parameters on the median size and volume of nanobubbles. Online measurement of the bubbles size was implemented by a laser particle size analyzer (LPSA), according to standard BS ISO 13320-09. Due to the above parameters and obtained responses, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted with a suitable model to optimize the conditions, with the aim of minimizing the size of air bubbles. The optimal conditions were: frother (MIBC) dosage of 75.8 mg/dm3, air flow rate of 0.28 dm3/min, pressure of 324 kPa and pH of 9.5. The median bubble size d50 was equal to 203 nm. To validate the results, a test under optimum conditions was performed and the obtained results indicated that there was a good fit at the confidence interval of 95% and reflected the repeatability of the process.

Opis:
Purpose: Presented study describes new parameters calculated from the Ocular Response Analyzer (ORA) raw data. Such an approach can increase the applicability of the ORA in ophthalmic diagnosis. Among many proposed and examined by us parameters from raw data of the air pressure and applanation curves, only a few were chosen and then applied for characterizing a selected group of patients. Methods: The study included healthy subjects in a control group and patients divided into 2 groups: suspect and glaucoma. A series of four ORA measurements were taken from each subject. The raw ORA data were numerically analyzed and new parameters were calculated from the ORA curves for each measurement. Comparative analysis was carried out for the newly proposed parameters (and original parameters from the ORA device). Results: This interesting finding is that the new parameters showed a statistically significant ability to distinguish the glaucoma suspect group from healthy and glaucomatous patients. Moreover comparable or higher repeatability than for IOPg and CH was obtained. Conclusion: Raw data from the ORA enables definition and numerical analysis of new parameters, characterizing every measurement, which can be successfully used for describing an individual eye and differentiating between some specific groups of patients.

Opis:
A physical and mathematical model of digital coherent optical spectrum analyzers is discussed. In digital coherent optical spectrum analyzers the input signal is forming as a two-dimensional transparency by means of a spatial light modulator. After Fourier transformation with a lens, multiplication by a spatial filter and second Fourier transformation, the signal is captured by a matrix detector for further computer processing. A lot of digital coherent optical spectrum analyzers and their components (laser, lighting system, spatial light modulator, Fourier lens and matrix detector) models were developed to calculate the signal at the matrix detector output. They use the impulse response and transfer function to evaluate the effectiveness of digital coherent optical spectrum analyzers. The analysis of mathematical relationships shows that the use of a discrete spatial light modulator for the signal input and a matrix detector for light field registration in the spectral domain when combined with computer technology greatly extends the functionality of digital coherent optical spectrum analyzer. The formulas for impulse response and transfer function calculations were obtained, which allows to analyze and optimize the digital coherent optical spectrum analyzer basic characteristics.

Opis:
Comparison studies have been performed on determination of total mercury in wet deposition by two analytical methods. The studies were carried out in the period of March to November 2009 at the sampling point located near intensive traffic in Southern Poland (Zabrze). The difference between these two methods consisted in preparation of samples for analysis and in the type of measuring device. In both cases, the method of cold vapour atomic absorption spectrometry (CV-AAS) after reduction of SnCl2 was used by means of a mercury analyzer model MA-2 produced by Nippon Instruments Corp. or of a mercury analyzer RA-915+ produced by LUMEX. Good agreement of the results have been obtained (relative error of the determination between the methods varied from 18% to 40%). Both analytical methods can be considered equivalent and used as a reference to each other. Quantity assessment of mercury wet deposition in southern Poland is lower than in 90 s, but still much higher in comparison with other countries in Europe and worldwide (ca. 30 μg·m -2·year -1.
