Opis:
The work concerns the analysis of influence of the wear process of endodontic instruments on the mechanical and physico-chemical properties of the materials from which they are made. A detailed study of the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance in the environment simulating work of the tool was conducted. The research was done for the new Mtwo endodontic files and after six times of use. In addition, the observations with a scanning electron microscope in order to reveal possible damage caused by the impact of a corrosive environment were carried out. The results showed that use of the tool by six times revealed damage at the edges of the blades and may cause a lack of continuity of the cutting line resulting in the uneven distribution of the resistive force which acts on the tool during operation.

Opis:
Originally, the application of nano zero valent iron/nickel (nZVI/Ni) particles for nitrate removal in porous media was studied. nZVI/Ni was prepared and employed in batch and continuous modes. Based on batch experiments, the reaction kinetics was consistent with the adsorption model by the order of 1–1.5. The variation of the kinetics order depends on pH and nickel content. So that highest reactivity was observed for nZVI with 10% of Ni at pH ≤ 3. Nitrate remediation in a continuous system was mostly influenced by seepage velocity, quantity and freshness of nZVI/Ni and particle size of porous media. In a batch mode, the maximum nitrate removal was 99% while in a continuous mode it did not exceed 85%.

Opis:
Contamination of soil with heavy metals drained out from twenty eight abandoned mines in the southwest regions of Korea has been investigated. Utilizing various statistical techniques, the goal was to evaluate and analyze pH and the contamination with Arsenic, and the following six heavy metals: cadmium, hydrargyrum, lead, nickel, chromium, and zinc. Contamination levels of heavy metals were determined depending on the depth of the soil. Results indicated that the subsoil and the surface soil both were strongly contaminated with lead and arsenic. Furthermore, the subsoil also contained much nickel. In forest regions, high levels of lead and arsenic, whereas in all regions high levels of zinc have been detected.

Opis:
Comparative evaluation of metal occurrence was conducted for sludge originating from three wastewater treatment plants, which differ in wastewater treatment methods, processing and drying of sludge. It was demonstrated that metals (Zn, Cu, Ni, Pb, Cd, Cr) in sludge are mainly bound to organic-sulfide fraction. Zinc was also present in significant amounts in hydrated iron and manganese oxide fraction, nickel and cadmium in exchangeable-carbonate fraction, whereas lead in residue fraction. In ash obtained after calcination at 600 °C occurred mainly metal enriched nearly insoluble compound fraction (residual fraction). Metal accumulation in such non-mobile fraction is advantageous with respect to soil-water environment protection.

Opis:
The study was conducted on three specially prepared test areas along main streets of Bialystok. The experimental plots were sown with two lawn grass mixtures: Eko and Roadside, and three doses of sewage sludge 0.0 (control), 7.5 kg/m2 and 15.0 kg/m2 were used. The calculated bioconcentration factor made possible to determine the mobility of the various metals from the soil solution to the aerial parts of plants. The obtained results showed that the plants absorbed Cd, Zn, Cu easier than Pb and Ni suggesting a high mobility, in particular of Cd, Zn, Cu, and reflects the easiness extraction of those metals by plants. Significant correlations between concentrations of metals in soil and grass were observed, nickel in soil was significantly correlated with Cd, Zn and Cu in plants, while the Zn content in soil with the level of Cu in plants.
