Opis:
Purpose: Telerehabilitation is one of the newest branches of telemedicine which has been developed because patients need regular trainings outside the medical institution but still under specialist supervision. It helps maintain regularity of exercises and reduces costs. The professional and advanced systems for telerehabilitation are presented in papers however, there is still lack of development of minor systems which provide therapeutic values and are more accessible to people. Therefore we focus on a solution for hand telerehabilitation of post-stroke patients, based solely on a personal computer and camera. Methods: We focused on the manipulative hand (fingers, metacarpus, wrist) movements trainings for patients with cerebral palsy. The contact between patient and physiotherapist is provided by using web cameras and web service. Additionally the camera can be used to monitor the effectiveness of performed exercises. Computer vision system keeps track of the patient’s hand movement. The digital image processing is used to detect if the patient performs exercises correctly. Results: We created web service and software application TeleReh that provides therapeutic values for the hand impaired people. The created system was evaluated by three physiotherapists, one doctor and a cerebral palsy patient. Conclusions Our solution applies to all patients who have undergone basic rehabilitation in hospital and need to continue hand rehabilitation at home. The main advantages are: easily adaptation to the individual needs and abilities, monitoring the progress by using automatically generated reports after each training session. It is worth noticing, that discussion between IT specialists, rehabilitants and patients was necessary to achieve good results.

Opis:
Purpose: Preventing the formation of blood clots on the surface of biomaterials and investigation of the reasons of their formation are the leading topics of the research and development of biomaterials for implants placed into the bloodstream. Biocompatibility and stability of a material in body fluids and direct effect on blood cell counts components are related both to the structure and physico-chemical state of an implant surface. The aim of this study was to determine haemocompatibility and cytotoxicity of polysulfone-based samples containing nano and micro particles of magnetite (Fe3O4). Methods: The polysulfone-based samples modified with nanometric and micrometric magnetite particles were examined. Physicochemical properties of the composites were determined by testing their wettability and surface roughness. The action of haemolytic, activation of coagulation system and cytotoxicity of composites was evaluated. Results: Wettability and roughness of materials were correlated with nanoparticles and microparticles content. In the tests of plasma coagulation system shortening of activated partial thromboplastin time for polysulfone with nano magnetite and with micro magnetite particles was observed in comparison with pure polysulfone. Prothrombine time and thrombine time values as well as fibrinogen concentration were unchanged. Haemolysis values were normal. Morphology and viability of cells were normal. Conclusions: Composites made from polysulfone modified with nanoparticles and microparticles of magnetite cause neither haemolytic nor cytotoxic reaction. These composites evoke plasma endogenous system activation.

Opis:
Purpose: This paper reports the results of investigations of the blood response of the modified titanium alloys surfaces. Methods: To enhance biocompatibility of the Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy, anodisation was performed at 80 and 150 V. The oxidation process was carried out in a solution containing 4 mol dm−3 H3PO4 and 0.59 mol dm−3 Ca(H2PO2)2. Results: The haemolytic activity of the titanium alloy surface was not altered much by the anodisation. The obtained values of the percentage of haemolysis were well below the levels required for the materials intended for blood contact. The clotting time of the blood was similar for the as-ground sample and the sample anodised at 80 V. For the sample anodised at 150 V the clotting time was shorter. The differences between these samples were observed in partial thromboplastin time after activation, prothrombin time and thrombin time, after 24 h. Extracts taken from the samples were not toxic towards the L-929 mouse fibroblast cells. Conclusions: The proposed treatment might be appropriate for the preparation of the modified Ti-13Nb-13Zr surfaces intended for bone reconstruction or cardiovascular implants depending on process parameters.
