W artykule opisane zostały bezinwazyjne metody badań budynków in situ: badania termowizyjne, testy szczelności budynków oraz badania komfortu cieplnego wewnątrz pomieszczeń. Przedstawiono wyniki badań przeprowadzonych przez autorów, jak również metodykę i problematykę wykonywania niektórych badań pozwalających na ocenę obiektów i lokali pod względem ochrony cieplnej. Pomiary termowizyjne najczęściej stosowane są do oceny jakościowej wykonania przegród budowlanych. Pozwalają one na weryfikację prac budowlanych, jak i identyfikację miejsc o zbyt intensywnej wymianie ciepła. Mogą służyć do diagnozowania przyczyn wad oraz usterek konstrukcyjnych lub instalacyjnych budynku. Najbardziej powszechnym zastosowaniem metody jest ocena stanu obudowy budynku oraz detekcji mostków termicznych, będących efektem niewłaściwego wykonania połączeń, nieszczelnego ułożenia izolacji lub nieprawidłowego montażu stolarki. Badania szczelności obudowy budynku przy jednoczesnej detekcji miejsc przecieku powietrza przez obudowę umożliwiają poprawę jakości wykończeniowych prac budowlanych. W trakcie przeprowadzania badań szczelności w okresie zimowym można dokonać jednoczesnej analizy termowizyjnej obudowy budynku. Przeprowadzanie badań daje możliwość szybkiej reakcji na pojawiające się niedociągnięcia i błędy wykonawcze. Wyniki badań mogłyby posłużyć do stworzenia katalogów błędów, których należałoby unikać na etapie wykonawczym, a jednocześnie wskazówek dla projektantów.
The article describes the noninvasive test methods of buildings in situ: thermal imaging, airtightness tests of buildings and internal thermal comfort analysis. The results of researches conducted by the authors were presented as well as the methodology and the problems in conducting some tests allowing for the thermal assessment of buildings. Infrared measurements are commonly used to assess the qualitative performance of building partitions. They allow for the verification of the quality of construction work, as well as the identification of too intense heat exchange. They can be used to diagnose the causes of defects and faults in design or installation of the building. The most common method is to assess the condition of the building envelope and the detection of thermal bridges, which are the result of improper performance of connections, leaky insulation or incorrect installation of windows. Airtightness tests connected with the simultaneous detection of leaks allow for improvement of construction works. During the winter season the infrared analysis of the building envelope can be conducted. The results of the researches could be used to create a catalog of errors that should be avoided at the execution stage, and also tips for designers.

he usability of the micellar enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) for removal of phosphates from aqueous solutions has been evaluated. The process was performed with the use of polyethersulfone membranes under various transmembrane pressures (0.1, 0.15, and 0.2 MPa). Phosphorous solutions containing 15 mg of PO3-4/dm3 and two cationic surfactants: octadecylamine acetate (ODA) and hexadecylpyridium chloride (CPC) were used in the tests. The concentration of ODA and CPC amounted to 2 and 3 CMC (Critical Micelle Concentration) as well as 2, 3 and 6 CMC, respectively. The results of the study showed that the surfactant type and its concentration influenced the process efficiency. The phosphate removal with the use of ODA was approximately 95%, whereas application of CPC gave unsatisfactory results.

The micellar enhanced ultrafiltration of model aqueous solutions containing inorganic nitrogen and phosphorous compounds was studied. In the experiments, cellulose membranes of 5, 10 and 30 kDa molecular weight cut-off and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a cationic surfactant were used. The concentration of CTAB amounted to 2 and 3CMC (critical micelle concentration). The influence of surfactant concentration, membrane cut-off and operating pressure on permeate flux, as well as on nitrate and phosphate separation was evaluated. The results showed that the presence of both nitrates and phosphates caused deterioration of the retention coefficient in comparison to separation efficiency achieved for one-component solutions.

The usability of surfactant-aided ultrafiltration for removal of fluoride ions from aqueous solutions has been investigated. The experiments were conducted with the use of cellulose and polyethersulfone membranes. Fluoride solutions containing 10 and 100 mg F/dm3 and cationic surfactants: octadecylamine acetate (ODA) and hexadecylpyridium chloride (CPC) were used in the experiments. The concentration of surfactants amounted to 320–960 mg/dm3. Ultrafiltration process was run under a trans-membrane pressure of 0.2 MPa. In the course of experiments, the effects of initial fluoride concentration, surfactant concentration and membrane type on the fluoride retention coefficient as well as the permeate flux were studied. It was found that the increase of the surfactant concentration effected in improvement of the separation efficiency. On contrary, the permeate flux decreased upon increase of the surfactant concentration. The process efficiency was also strongly influenced by the membrane and surfactant type. The permissible concentration of fluoride in the final product (below 1.5 mg F/dm3) was obtained for the test with initial solutions containing 10 mg F/dm3, polyethersulfone membrane and CPC con-centration equal to 644 and 966 mg/dm3.

Opis:
Suitability of conventional batch electrodialysis to fluoride removal from aqueous solutions has been investigated. The experiments were conducted with the use of laboratory installation PCCell BED-1 System at a constant current density (1.56 or 2.34 mA/cm2). The influence of initial fluoride and salt (NaCl) concentration, as well as the presence of organic matter on the process performance was studied. It was found that the separation efficiency increased upon decrease of initial fluoride content in model solutions. Permissible final concentration of fluorides in the product water (1.5 mg/dm3) was obtained for experiments with solutions of initial fluoride concentration equal to 5 mg F–/dm3 and 10 mg F–/dm3. The presence of humic acids in fluoride solutions subjected to electrodialysis treatment has no adverse effect on the defluorization and desalination efficiency. The calculated electrical energy demand depended on composition of fluoride solution and varied from 0.121 to 0.895 kWh/m3.

Opis:
Purpose: The patients expect optimal knee function after Total Knee Arthroplasty. It is necessary to apply appropriate surgical technique and supervised physical therapy. The optimal management of posterior cruciate ligament remains controversial. Both implant designs, i.e., cruciate retaining and posterior substituting, allow the orthopedic surgeon to achieve excellent clinical outcomes, as measured by commonly used questionnaires. Such methods of assessment may poorly reflect the functional status of patients. Therefore, three-dimensional gait analysis is recommended to evaluate the outcomes of surgical intervention. This study sought to determine differences in kinematic gait parameters and Knee Society Score between cruciate-retaining and posterior-substituting patients. Methods:23 individuals after cruciate-retaining total knee arthroplasty and 19 individuals after posterior-substituting total knee arthroplasty were subjected to gait analysis using three-dimensional motion capture system BTS Smart DX 7000. In addition, gait was assessed in 21 patients with knee osteoarthritis and in 30 healthy individuals. Results: The study did not reveal differences between cruciate-retaining and posterior-substituting groups, both in terms of Knee Society Score and kinematic gait parameters. There were also no differences in kinematic gait parameters between patients from the knee osteoarthritis group and total knee arthroplasty groups. The analyzed parameters in all of the groups differed significantly from those found in healthy individuals. Conclusions: Surgical technique and implant design do not affect values of kinematic gait parameters evaluated under natural walking speed. Several months after surgery the patients still demonstrated alterations in gait pattern, similar to those recorded in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Opis:
The advanced oxidation process with Fenton’s reagent can be used in industrial wastewater treatment, especially for the degradation of not easily biodegradable contaminations. Chemical oxidation of industrial wastewater or other substances as a pre-treatment before biological purification is the most effective method of wastewater treatment. However the Fenton process requires low pH of wastewater and final neutralization with a big amount of iron-containing precipitate. Thes paper presents laboratory experiments dealing with the treatment of adhesive wastewater in an sequencing batch reactor following the Fenton process without final neutralization.

A typical project consists of many activities. Logical dependencies cause some of them to be critical and some non-critical. While critical activities have a strict start time, in some projects the problem of selecting the start time of a non-critical activity may arise. Usually, it is possible to use the “as soon as possible” or “as late as possible” rules. Sometimes, however, the result of such a decision depends on external factors, e.g., an exchange rate. In this paper, we consider the multi-criteria problem of determining the start time of a non-critical activity. We assume that the earliest start and the latest start times of the activity have been identified using the critical path method, but the project manager is free to select the time when the activity will actually be started. This decision, however, cannot be changed later, as it is associated with the allocation of key resources. The criteria that are usually considered in such a situation are cost and risk. We assume that the cost depends on an exchange rate. We also consider the risks of project delay and a decrease in quality. This paper formulates the selection of the start time for a non-critical activity as a discrete dynamic multicriteria problem. We solve it using an interactive procedure based on the analysis of trade-offs.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different plasticizing aging solutions on wear resistance and hardness of selected universal resin-based dental composites. Methods: Three light cured (one nanofilled, two microhybride) and one hybride chemical cured composites were aged at 37 °C for 48 h in distillated water, ethyl alcohol solution or Listerine mouthwash. After aging the microhardness tests were carried out and then tribological tests were performed in the presence of aging solution at 37 °C. During wear testing coefficients of friction were determined. The maximal vertical loss in micrometers was determined with profilometer. Results: Aging in all liquids resulted in a significant decrease in hardness of the test materials, with the largest values obtained successively in ethanol solution, mouthwash and water. The effect of the liquid was dependent on the particular material, but not the type of material (interpreted as the size of filler used). Introduction of mouthwash instead of water or ethanol solution resulted in a significant reduction in the coefficient of friction. The lowest wear resistance was registered after aging in ethanol and for the chemical cured hybrid composite, but the vertical loss was strongly material dependent. Conclusions: The effect of different aging solution, including commercial mouthrinse, on hardness and wear was material dependent, and cannot be deduced from their category or filler loading. There is no simple correlation between hardness of resin-based dental composites and their wear resistance, but softening of particular composites materials during aging leads to the reduction of its wear resistance.

Teeth caries is one of predominant civilization diseases. Dental fillings with antimicrobial addition might allow prevention of secondary caries. The purpose of this study was to evaluate hardness and tensile strength of cetylpyridinium chloride modified water activated glass-ionomer cement. Methods: Samples with diameter of 6 mm and height of 3 mm made of water-activated glass-ionomer cement were control group (0.0%). Test groups were series of samples of the same dimensions, with addition of cetylpyridinium chloride antibacterial in concentrations of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0%. Two subgroups were prepared in each group to determine Vickers Hardness and Diametral Tensile Strength after 1 and 24 hours of sample storage in distilled water. Results: During hardness studies, no strong effect of antibacterial concentration on hardness of samples was observed. Higher hardness values after 24 hours were demonstrated for all groups, compared to the samples tested after 1 hour. The exception was the group with the addition of 1% cetylpyridinium chloride, in which no statistically significant differences were observed. Diametral Tensile Strength values for samples tested after 1 hour decreased with increasing antibacterial concentration. A similar relationship was noticed for samples tested after 24 hours. No statistically significant differences were found between test samples after 1 or 24 hours. Conclusions: There was no significant effect of cetylpyridinium chloride concentration on the hardness of the samples that significantly increased during the study. With the increase in antibacterial concentration a decrease in diametral tensile strength value was observed, but these values did not change over time.
