Opis:
Introduction: Software engineering continuously suffers from inadequate software testing. The automated prediction of possibly faulty fragments of source code allows developers to focus development efforts on fault-prone fragments first. Fault prediction has been a topic of many studies concentrating on C/C++ and Java programs, with little focus on such programming languages as Python. Objectives: In this study the authors want to verify whether the type of approach used in former fault prediction studies can be applied to Python. More precisely, the primary objective is conducting preliminary research using simple methods that would support (or contradict) the expectation that predicting faults in Python programs is also feasible. The secondary objective is establishing grounds for more thorough future research and publications, provided promising results are obtained during the preliminary research. Methods: It has been demonstrated that using machine learning techniques, it is possible to predict faults for C/C++ and Java projects with recall 0.71 and false positive rate 0.25. A similar approach was applied in order to find out if promising results can be obtained for Python projects. The working hypothesis is that choosing Python as a programming language does not significantly alter those results. A preliminary study is conducted and a basic machine learning technique is applied to a few sample Python projects. If these efforts succeed, it will indicate that the selected approach is worth pursuing as it is possible to obtain for Python results similar to the ones obtained for C/C++ and Java. However, if these efforts fail, it will indicate that the selected approach was not appropriate for the selected group of Python projects. Results: The research demonstrates experimental evidence that fault-prediction methods similar to those developed for C/C++ and Java programs can be successfully applied to Python programs, achieving recall up to 0.64 with false positive rate 0.23 (mean recall 0.53 with false positive rate 0.24). This indicates that more thorough research in this area is worth conducting. Conclusion: Having obtained promising results using this simple approach, the authors conclude that the research on predicting faults in Python programs using machine learning techniques is worth conducting, natural ways to enhance the future research being: using more sophisticated machine learning techniques, using additional Python-specific features and extended data sets.

Opis:
Development and maintenance of understandable and modifiable software is very challenging. Good system design and implementation requires strict discipline. The architecture of a project can sometimes be exceptionally difficult to grasp by developers. A project’s documentation gets outdated in a matter of days. These problems can be addressed using software analysis and visualization tools. Incorporating such tools into the process of continuous integration provides a constant up-to-date view of the project as a whole and helps keeping track of what is going on in the project. In this article we describe an innovative method of software analysis and visualization using graph-based approach. The benefits of this approach are shown through experimental evaluation in visual assessment of software quality using a proof-of-concept implementation — the Magnify tool.

Opis:
This paper describes the results of tests on the influence of human saliva and its substitutes on tribological characteristics of friction pairs. Each pair consists of enamel and one of the following materials: ceramics, the Meridian B2 dental composite, the GK dental amalgam, and Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy. The saliva substitutes used were prepared using pyrophosphates, xanthan gum, and mucins dissolved in a saline buffer. The results of the tribological tests show that the values of the parameters under investigation (coefficient of friction and linear wear) were different from each other. Some similarity was observed between the evaluated level of wear characteristics after the friction process in the environment of human saliva and that in the environment of one of the mucins tested. Microscopic observations of the surfaces of the enamel samples after friction revealed varied forms of tribological wear.

Opis:
runs are achieved when the highest flow through the most recently backwashed filter and the highest available head loss coincide. This rule has previously been published by Dąbrowski, who used a simplified mathematical model of VDR filters developed by Di Bernardo. However, until now no experimental verification of this optimisation approach has been presented. A series of tests were carried out on a laboratory VDR filter plant, using a suspension collected from an industrial sedimentation tank and using alum as a coagulant. The results of the experiments were compared with computations carried out according to a combined unit bed element (UBE)-phenomenological model of deep bed filtration adapted to VDR operation by Mackie and Zhao. It was confirmed that the longest filtration runs did indeed correspond to the pairs of the highest H and q1/qavr. The UBE-phenomenological model of deep bed filtration gave results of computations quite close to experimental results and improved the accuracy of calculations based on the theoretical model by Di Bernardo.

Opis:
Purpose: Flexor injuries are most common in the hand and require special attention and experience from the surgeon. Both quality and technique affect the stability of the suture. The selection of the optimum method will influence the process of rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to compare three different suture techniques based on the strength, depending on the method of breakage, i.e., axial or pulley load. Methods: The study was divided into six sessions. The research material was dissected deep flexor porcine tendons. Three types of stitches were used: the modified Kessler suture with an additional running suture, the cruciate four-strand suture with an additional running suture and the multistrand running suture. We obtained 120 sutures, 40 for each technique. Breaking strength was assessed using a tensile machine in two ways, i.e., axial or pulley load, with 20 sutures per group. Results: The strongest suture for both axial and pulley load was the cruciate four-strand suture. Between the multistrand running suture and the modified Kessler suture, there was no statistically significant difference in the strength of breaking for both axial and pulley load. Comparing the two ways of breaking, there was no statistically significant difference in the strength of the suture. Conclusions: The multistrand running locking suture is a good alternative to widely used core sutures. It not only provides the same strength as other techniques examined by us but also reduces the procedure time and trauma to the tips of the tendon.
