Opis:
This paper presents a description of an agile testing process in a medium size software project that is developed using Scrum. The research methods used is the case study were as follows: surveys, quantifiable project data sources and qualitative project members opinions were used for data collection. Challenges related to the testing process regarding a complex project environment and unscheduled releases were identified. Based on the obtained results, we concluded that the described approach addresses well the aforementioned issues. Therefore, recommendations were made with regard to the employed principles of agility, specifically: continuous integration, responding to change, test automation and test driven development. Furthermore, an efficient testing environment that combines a number of test frameworks (e.g. JUnit, Selenium, Jersey Test) with custom-developed simulators is presented.

Opis:
Background: Key Performance Indicators are a common way of quantitative monitoring of project progress in modern companies. Although they are widely used in practice, there is little evidence on how they are set, and how many of them are used in large product development projects. Goal: The goal of this paper is to explore how KPIs are used in practice in a large company. In particular, it is explored whether KPIs are used continuously or only during short, predefined periods of time. It is also explored whether software-related KPIs are reported differently from non-software-related KPIs. Method: A case study of 12 projects at the Volvo Car Group in Sweden was conducted. The data from the project progress reporting on tools was collected and triangulated with data from interviews conducted with experts from the company. Results: KPIs are reported mostly before the milestones and the manual assessment of their status is equally important as the automated data provision in the KPI reporting system. The trend of reporting software-related KPIs is very similar to the non-software-related KPIs. Conclusions: Despite the documented good practices of using KPIs for project monitoring, it is difficult to develop a clear status-picture solely using quantitative data from progress reporting tools. It was also shown that the trends in reporting the software-related KPIs are similar to the trends in reporting the non-software related KPIs.

Opis:
The main purpose of the froth zone in flotation is to transport all the valuable particles from the pulp zone into the concentrate. However, in practice, a complete recovery of these particles is rarely achieved since some of them are detachment from the bubbles and return to the pulp zone. While this is an important topic in the mineral flotation industry, the previously published papers are mainly limited to small laboratory scales. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effect of two main flotation variables (air flowrate and froth depth) on the flotation of iron ore in a 10 m3 industrial scale cell. It was found that, when the air flowrate increased from 45 to 146 m3/h, the velocity of the bubble coalescence also increased. In addition, when the froth depth increased from 5 to 30 cm, the product grade showed on average 2 unit increase (for instance, from 12% to 14%) due to the detachment of particles and liquid drainage. It was also found that the flotation concentrates recovery decreased with the increasing froth depth and air flowrate.

Opis:
e-Waste awareness and behavior of local Polish community has been examined. Specifically, the issue of selective waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) collection has been explored. The main objectives of the research was to evaluate an attitude of the individuals towards e-waste treatment and to recognize the causes of low efficiency of the current WEEE management. The research was conducted among the inhabitants of a small town in Poland. Collected data may be useful while preparing household WEEE management systems. Over 52% of respondents, each was a representative of one household, conducted selective electrical and electronic equipment waste collection. Unfortunately, 12% (mostly young people aged 16-25, 9%) admitted that they threw e-waste mixed with general municipal waste. Another 12% (aged 18-25) claimed that they had never disposed of WEEE. Nowadays, the technology is developing very fast and small electronic devices are frequently exchanged, so the above mentioned statement is unlikely to be true. The research survey confirmed that further costs should be borne on educational activities which will raise people's awareness concerning WEEE threats and motivate them to collect e-waste selectively. The improvement of the management system increasing the number of e-waste drop off points, is necessary as well.

Opis:
It is a regular occurrence for residents living near industrial plants to complain regarding odor problems. Those plants may also try to protect themselves from liability by demonstrating some environmental evidence. An investigation to prove whether the accused industrial complex is the major source of released odors among several potential sources of odor problems was carried out using the combination of measurement techniques. The multi-monitoring methods comprise utilizations of olfactory system, questionnaire, electronic detector and chemical analysis. This study demonstrated the achievement of integrating scientific monitoring methods to support the enforcement of odor acts for management in the industrial city.

Opis:
In this study, the perfect mixing model was used to investigate its accuracy level, under different laboratory conditions, in predicting the particle size distribution of industrial ball mills discharges. For this purpose, data sets of two laboratory ball mills with eight different compositions of balls and two industrial mills of a copper processing plant for seven different tonnages, which totally included 56 simulation operations, were used. For simulation, the necessary data were obtained through performing the breakage distribution function and kinetic grinding tests using laboratory mills. The results were used to determine the first order grinding kinetics and normalized breakage rate parameters. For the industrial scale, the simulation process was carried out using data, perfect mixing model equations and JKSimMet software. The results showed that the operating conditions of the laboratory mills were quite affected by the predictive power of the desired model. Comparing the measured and simulated values of P80, it is clear that 2 minutes of first order grinding using the Bond laboratory ball mill with standard operating conditions and single size ball load of 20 mm provided the best prediction with trivial errors, less than 10%, for all seven tonnages of the industrial mills. The results of this study together with more investigations on different plants can be helpful in optimization, simulation and scale-up procedures of ball mills.
