Opis:
Glasses doped with lanthanides ions may be good white light emitters due to their interesting physical and spectroscopic properties. In this paper, the optical spectroscopy of rare earths doped glasses with a special emphasis on application as white LED were presented. The luminescent glass materials containing Ln3+ (Ln = Pr, Tb, Dy) and Ce3+ ions were obtained. The glasses samples were prepared by a traditional melt-quenching technique. The optical properties of glasses containing various concentrations of rare earth ions were analyzed. It was observed that luminescence bands corresponding to characteristic transitions of Ln3+ and cerium ions are present on spectra measured under direct excitation of Ce3+. Therefore, it indicates that the energy transfer process between Ce3+ /Pr3+, Ce3+ /Tb3+, Ce3+ / Dy3+ ions in glasses occurs. Some parameters such as correlated color temperature (CCT) and chromaticity coordinates (CIE) that characterize white LEDs were analyzed and discussed in detail.

We have investigated the spectroscopic properties of Er3+-doped fluorotellurite glasses with the basic molar composition 75%TeO2–10%P2O5–10%ZnO–5%PbF2, modified by replacing 5% TeO2 by a metal oxide, namely WO3 or Nb2O5. The absorption edge of the glasses studied has been described within the Urbach approach, while the absorption and photoluminescence spectra have been analyzed in terms of the standard Judd–Ofelt theory, along with the photoluminescence decay of the 4I13/2 and 4S3/2 levels of the Er3+ ion. The absorption and emission spectra of the 4I15/24I13/2infrared transition have been analyzed within the McCumber theory to yield the peak emission cross-section and figure of merit for the amplifier gain. It appears that the fluorotellurite glass containing WO3 as a modifier is characterized by the largest figure of merit, indicating this matrix as a promising new host for doping with Er3+ ions.

In the paper, the effect of the surface coating with palladium on hydrogen permeation of a Pd33Ni52Si15 amorphous alloy membrane was investigated. We have measured the hydrogen flow through the melt-spun amorphous membrane covered with palladium film of 10, 20, and 30 nm in thickness. Membranes have been tested in the temperature rage 294–358 K, and at pressure fixed at 102 kPa. We investigate the role of this film thickness on the activation energy for hydrogen permeability. It seemed that a relatively thin layer of the palladium on the surface of the membrane which contains over 30% of this element, should not considerably influence the permeability of the membrane for hydrogen. The membrane hydrogen permeability is correlated to permeation activation energy: the lower activation energy is, the higher permeability is observed. The activation energy for permeation strongly depends on palladium film thickness. The rapid increase of its value was recorded when the film thickness was growing up. As the result, the increase of the film thickness suppressed hydrogen permeability. Our findings are discussed in terms of a potential barrier between the two different phases.

A series of fluorotellurite glasses based on 70TeO2–5MxOy–10P2O5–10ZnO–5PbF2 in mol%, where MxOy = (WO3, Nb2O5) doped with 2400 ppm of Er2O3 have been prepared by the conventional melt quenching method. The influence of modifiers on thermal and optical properties of glasses has been analyzed. Thermal characteristics of glasses like the glass transition temperature Tg, the temperature for the crystallization onset Tx, the maximum crystallization temperature Tc, and the thermal stability parameter were determined by the DSC method. The ellipsometric data have provided Sellmeier-type dispersion relations of the refractive index of the investigated glasses. The optical parameters are used to calculate the molar refractivity, molar polarizability, oxide ion polarizability, molar cation polarizability, and a number of polarizable atoms per unit volume for every glass composition in order to interpret the refractive index of these glasses.

Opis:
The structure of photochromic high silica glasses (PHSGs) was studied by UV–VIS–NIR and IR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. PHSG plates were obtained by impregnation of silica porous glasses at first with AgNO3 aqueous solution (in or without the presence of the sensitizers, such as Cu(NO3)2 or Ce(NO3)3), next in the mixed halide salt (NH4Cl, KBr, KI) solution. Then a part of the samples was sintered at temperatures from 850 to 900 °C up to closing of the pores. The results of TEM study have shown that the PHSG plates have two-phase structure with inclusions of the size of 10–100 nm. According to XRD data, the PHSGs contain the AgBr phase. IR spectra confirmed the presence of AgI, AgCl, CeO2, CuCl2, CuCl phases in PHSGs.

Opis:
Glasses in the Na2O–B2O3–SiO2–Fe2O3 system with a constant SiO2 content 70 mol% were synthesized using conventional melting in platinum crucibles in SiC-furnace in air. After synthesis and annealing, glasses were heat treated at 550°C for 96–144 hrs to promote phase separation. A tentative region of phase separation for this temperature was outlined. X-ray powder diffractometry results showed three iron-containing phases (Fe3O4, FeSiO3 and β-Fe2O3) forming in the investigated glasses with magnetite being the main phase as it is observed in most of the glasses. Chemical durability studies showed that compositions of phase-separated glasses suitable for synthesis of porous glasses, both iron-free and iron-containing lie in between 4 and 8 mol% of Na2O. Bulk samples of porous glasses were obtained within the chosen region having the following parameters: specific surface area 40–185 m2/g, porosity 30%–45%, pore diameter 3–14 nm. The parameters of porous structure of iron-containing porous glasses are of the same order of magnitude as the porous glass used for the multiferroic nanocomposite synthesis.
