Opis:
The laser scanning technology offers quite new possibilities in the field of the existing monitoring of engineering structures. The basic advantage of the laser scanning technology is huge amount of measuring observations and practically complete geometric and spectral information about the measured structures, which may be required within the short time. In the context of detection of threatens related to deformations and displacements of building structures, the surface - quasi-continuous distribution of measuring points is one of the most important factors. which ensure the possibility to perform correct evaluation of safety conditions of investigated structures. The proposed technological solution offers a series of new possibilities and the resulting methodology of determination of deformations and displacements of various structures, will considerably increase the scope of possible works and analyses. This will also create the new segment of data, which will result in delivery of additional information concerning conditions of the structure to experts from various fields, such as, among others, civil engineering, construction or geotechnique, who monitor the given structure.

Opis:
Urban is one of the three bells in the belfry of St. Trinity Church in Krosno. It is the largest one, with diameter equal to 1,535 mm and it is commonly considered as one of the largest historical bells in Poland. The total mass of all the three bells is close to 4,200 kilograms, so the dynamic actions produced by swinging have a great effect on the supporting structure and on the tower. However, the exact weight of the biggest bell isn't known, and for safety reasons it should be estimated in order to verify the real dynamic forces affecting the structure. The paper describes the method of Urban bell’s survey using terrestrial laser scanning and a total station as a task to estimate its weight by determining its volume.

Opis:
The work presents results of using the technology of terrestrial laser scanning in stocktaking measurements of spherical domes. The parameter subject to special evaluation is the value of the dome's diameter set on primary Ievel, which is compared with the theoretical value obtained from the technical project of the object. The measurements in several variants were made with the use of Leica ScanStation laser scanner bought by the Geodesy Institute. In office works the original manufacturer's programme (Cyclone v. 5.6) was used. The programme enables modeling the obtained observation results and making basic measurements, such as, among other, measuring the value of the diameter on the cross-section subject to the analysis. The results obtained with the use of laser scanning encourage to further detailed theoretically-empirical analysis.

This paper deals with determination of deformation of the No. M 137 bridge at Bojnická Street in Bratislava (Slovak Republic). The structure of the bridge consists of eleven concrete beams positioned in longitudinal direction. The atmospheric conditions and the traffic are causing deformation of the bridge structure. In this paper is described the procedure of initial measurement of displacements using Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS). Heights of 196 measured points were determined in local coordinate system. The points were situated in profiles (11 in each profile) on the beginning, the centre and the end of each bridge section.

Opis:
This paper presents results of two experimental cycles of measurements performed with the use of the terrestrial laser scanner Z+F IMAGER 5006h and the reflectorless tacheometer Leica TPS 1202. These tests aimed at determination of metric properties of surveying instruments, which are used for reflectorless distance measurements and which are often applied to project the geometry of objects. In the course of research works issues influencing the reflection of a laser beam by the measured surface, as well as their influence on the data quality. In order to analyse metric properties of applied instruments, levelling rods were used as test fields of geometrically specified division. It was stated basing on the performed analyses, that the influence of the incidental angle of a laser beam on the accuracy of reflectorless measurements is included within the limits of the error of distance measurements of a given instrument. However, the uniform trend of increasing differences between measured values and the nominal value may be noticed, together with the increase of the incidental angle of the axis of collimation on the measured surface of the test field.

Opis:
Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS) method which is commonly used for geodetic applications has a great potential to be successfully harnessed for multiple civil engineering applications. One of the most promising uses of TLS in construction industry is remote sensing of saturation of building materials. A research programme was prepared in order to prove that harnessing TLS for such an application is viable. Results presented in the current paper are a part of a much larger research programme focused on harnessing TLS for remote sensing of saturation of building materials. The paper describes results of the tests conducted with an impulse scanner Leica C-10. Tests took place both indoors (in a stable lab conditions) and outdoors (in a real environment). There were scanned specimens of the most popular building materials in Europe. Tested specimens were dried and saturated (including capillary rising moisture). One of the tests was performed over a period of 95 hours. Basically, a concrete specimen was scanned during its setting and hardening. It was proven that absorption of a laser signal is influenced by setting and hardening of concrete. Outdoor tests were based on scanning real buildings with partially saturated facades. The saturation assessment was based on differences of values of intensity. The concept proved to be feasible and technically realistic.

Opis:
The paper presents an analysis of the accuracy of the position of High Definition Survey (further HDS) target center in three dimensional space. Precise position of the target center has a significant impact on georeference, the registration accuracy of several point clouds into a complete 3D point cloud and, what is more, on the accuracy of the final results. The measurements were made with the use of Leica Scanstation. During the experiment 15 scans of the fixed target, for each of three distances, were carried out. The results were conducted in two ways: using scanner's software - the Cyclone, and the author's program written in Python. The obtained results were the basis for statistical analysis, namely a confidence ellipsoid in 3D space.

Opis:
The study is devoted to the uses of laser scanning in the field of engineering surveying. It is currently one of the main trends of research which is developed at the Department of Engineering Surveying and Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Mining Surveying and Environmental Engineering of AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. They mainly relate to the issues associated with tower and shell structures, infrastructure of rail routes, or development of digital elevation models for a wide range of applications. These issues often require the use of a variety of scanning techniques (stationary, mobile), but the differences also regard the planning of measurement stations and methods of merging point clouds. Significant differences appear during the analysis of point clouds, especially when modeling objects. Analysis of the selected parameters is already possible basing on ad hoc measurements carried out on a point cloud. However, only the construction of three-dimensional models provides complete information about the shape of structures, allows to perform the analysis in any place and reduces the amount of the stored data. Some structures can be modeled in the form of simple axes, sections, or solids, for others it becomes necessary to create sophisticated models of surfaces, depicting local deformations. The examples selected for the study allow to assess the scope of measurement and office work for a variety of uses related to the issue set forth in the title of this study. Additionally, the latest, forward-looking technology was presented - laser scanning performed from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones). Currently, it is basically in the prototype phase, but it might be expected to make a significant progress in numerous applications in the field of engineering surveying.

Opis:
Projection of a complicated geometry of industrial objects is the complex issue, which requires properly planned and prepared measurements. Such objects must be accurately inventoried, but their complicated nature often makes the access and the visibility of their entire surface very difficult. Documentation of measurements is often prepared in the form of sketches, plans or maps, which are amended with photographic documentation. The objective of this paper is to test the possibilities to apply laser scanning and the network of digital images for inventory and monitoring of technical conditions of industrial objects. Processing of a precise documentation acquired basing on terrestrial laser scanning data or dense points clouds generated from digital images still causes many difficulties and problems. Although data processing algorithms have been intensively developed with respect to generation of high resolution orthoimages or precise vector drawings, the existing problems are still connected with limitations related to imperfections of both techniques of measurements.

Opis:
Nowadays, the growing popularity of terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) allows to obtain a point cloud of many industrial objects along with classic surveying. However, the quality and model’s accuracy in comparison to a real shape seem to be a question, that must be further researched. It is crucial especially for Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis, which, being a part of technical design, estimate the values of construction’s dislocation and deformation. The article describes objects such as headgear with steel support and 4-post headframe with steel sheers. Both supports and sheers were modelled basing on point clouds. All the models were compared to the point cloud. The differences in models’ shape were calculated and the maximal values were determined. The results’ usefulness in FEM analysis was described.

The paper presents control periodic measurements of movements and survey of concrete dam on Dunajec River in Rożnów, Poland. Topographical survey was conducted using laser scanning technique. The goal of survey was data collection and creation of a geometrical model. Acquired cross- and horizontal sections were utilised to create a numerical model of object behaviour at various load depending of changing level of water in reservoir. Modelling was accomplished using finite elements technique. During the project an assessment was conducted to terrestrial laser scanning techniques for such type of research of large hydrotechnical objects such as gravitational water dams. Developed model can be used to define deformations and displacement prognosis.
