Knowing the movements of chimneys (classified as the slender structure) has a very important role in the process of their construction and operation. Problem affects both the shaft and foundation of the chimney. Exceeding the maximum displacement of these buildings could in turn lead to the failure or construction catastrophe. This article aims focus on issue on the value of reinforced concrete chimney displacement measured geodesic projection method (without the knowledge of wind loads and nature of displacement during the measurement) and the theoretical displacements obtained for the adopted models in the computer calculation, ie static model and a dynamic model. The article presents the numerical analysis of reinforced concrete chimney displacements, ie shaft and foundation in terms of its displacement caused by standard wind load q in acceptable terms of the foundation and on the hypothetical loads (real) wind, which was carried out geodetic measurements. For analysis used Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis and MSC Marc for accepted model of shaft and substrate flexibility / stiffness Kz. The results obtained modeling the chimney (the analysis of static and dynamic - having a very important role in modern design of slender structures) carried out in two programs, and obtained during the surveying are presented in graphical form table.

Opis:
The article presents the basic rules for constructing and training neural networks called the Support Vector Machine method as well as possible applications for this kind of network. SVM networks are mainly used for solving tasks of classifying linearly and non-linearly separable data and regression. However, in recent years more applications have been found for them. The networks also solve such problems as the recognition of signals and images as well as speech identification.In this paper, non-linear SVM networks have been used for classifying linearly separable and non-separable data with a view to formulating a model of displacements of points in a measurement-control network. The points of the measurement-control network were placed on a civil engineering object located on expansive soil (linearly separable data) and represented a mining exploitation area (linearly non-separable data). The task of training SVM networks requires the use of quadratic programming in search of an optimum point of the Lagrangian function in relation to the parameters being optimised. In the case of linearly non-separable data, the SVM method makes it possible to find a hyperplane which classifies objects as correctly as possible, and at the same time is located possibly far away from concentrations typical of each class.

Opis:
Reliability engineering is widely applied in many technical areas. It is always used when we deal with utilisation of materials, constructed elements, subsystems, being parts of systems or entire objects. In geodesy issues related to reliability engineering have been introduced recently. They are connected with city vertical control networks. Those networks, considered as a "material" product, undergo the process of ageing. Researchers dealing with those issues apply reliability engineering to forecast the level of degradation of those networks. Such forecasts allow to commence certain efforts in order to maintain the quality of a network at the level which ensures it correct operations performed for economic purposes. Monitoring of vertical networks is important in order to ensure the safety of many building constructions. The basis for determination of displacements is to ensure the continuation of operation of the reference base in the designed control network. The paper will present analysis and proposals concerning utilisation of elements of reliability engineering for estimations of durability of reference bases and their comparison for utilisation in the process of forecasting the durability of city vertical control networks.

Opis:
This paper presents a concept for the identification of stable reference points used in horizontal control networks, which is based on the lengths of apparent displacement vectors and their mean errors. These vectors and their mean errors are obtained during the process of calculating displacements with free adjustment conditions. It will be shown that the influence of the apparent displacement vectors has a significant effect on the calculation of results. The identification of stable points, using the proposed method, is an integral part of the adjustment process and allows for the interrogation the influence of individual point inclusion or deletion from the reference database, on the values of displacements of controlled points. A detailed process of stable reference points identification is presented using the example of a linear-angular network for a barrage.

Opis:
The design of geodetic deformation monitoring schemes requires decisions to be made regarding the optimal location, density, and accuracy of geodetic sensors and targets. All too often, however, the location of the instruments and accuracy of monitoring are decided upon without regard for the expected location and magnitude of the maximum deformations of the monitored object. This can lead to incorrect interpretations of the behavior of the investigated object. A more rigorous approach is to use deterministic (a-priori) modeling of expected displacements derived from the knowledge of the geometry of the object and its environment, causative factors (loads), properties of the material, and physical laws governing the stress-strain relationship. In order to demonstrate how deterministic modeling can be used to design a geodetic scheme for deformation monitoring, an open pit mine scenario was investigated. Finite element analysis was applied to the open pit mine to obtain a prediction model of deformations at various stages of the mine development.

The article presents an example of supplementing geotechnical monitoring with geodetic observations. The experimental flood embankment built within the ISMOP project (Information Technology System of Levee Monitoring) was subjected to continuous monitoring based on built-in measuring sensors. The results of geodetic monitoring used for observation of earth-filled flood embankment subjected to external loads are presented in the paper. The tests were carried out on an experimental flood embankment forming a closed artificial water reservoir. The observations were carried out for two purposes. The first was long-term monitoring, which was aimed to determine the behaviour of the newly built embankment. The second purpose was to check the reaction of the levee to the simulated flood wave, caused by filling and draining the reservoir. In order to monitor the displacements of the earth-filled embankment, it was necessary to develop the proper methodology. For the needs of research works, an appropriate network of 5 reference points and 48 survey markers has been designed and established. The periodic measurements were carried out using precise robotic total station. The stability of the reference frame was each time checked and displacements of survey markers were determined based on it. The final results allow to reveal the reaction of levee to external loads. The displacement values were referred to the course of the filling and draining experiment to indicate the relationship between them. In the field of long-term monitoring the results clearly imply the dominance of displacements outside the reservoir for points located on the embankment, in contrast to points on the crest and foreground, which do not show significant movements. On the other hand, in the field of testing the embankment reaction to the flood wave, obtaining reliable results was possible thanks to high-accuracy geodetic measurements. Small displacement values, often at the level of their determination errors, were averaged for groups of points with the same height of foundation. A sizable number of points allows to perceive some tendencies and the relation between embankment soaking and its movement directions can be noticed. During periods when the levee was still saturated with water, slight movements outside the reservoir were revealed. On the other hand, the following period of drying caused movement in the opposite direction.

The GNSS data evaluated from on observation of ASG EUPOS stations in the Sudety Mts. and in adjacent areas is analyzed by the author in the scope of disturbances in daily solutions that can be induced by tectonics stress. The daily position changes derived from GNSS data demonstrate the long or short term trends, which are affected by offsets of different nature. Author presents an analysis based on frequency of parameter – displacement vector azimuth. The aim of the analysis is to show statistical significance of observed small values of temporal displacements, which values are not normally distributed. There are “outliers” of the normal distribution of displacement azimuths, which values show a certain reproducibility, which corresponds to orientations of tectonic lines. That suggests small, short time movements along boundaries of horsts and grabens – a crustal-extension structure of the area. However derived results (values of displacements) are less than a limitation error, temporal distributions of coordinates are not random as usually data errors. So in author’s opinion the spatial-temporal evolution of horizontal displacements of ASG EUPOS stations in the Sudety Mts. and in adjacent areas are determined by expressions of underlying geological structures.

Opis:
In measurements of vertical displacements of constructions, when direct access to checkpoints is very difficult or life threatening, one should apply the measuring technology which would fulfill accuracy requirements and yet avoid all the dangers. The technology in question could involve special code levelling staffs instead of classical solutions. The paper presents tests involving the above method in measuring deformations of the supporting structure of a chemical reactor right after a building disaster or in the trial load of a rebuilt structure. Examples of other positive applications of such a solution are also shown.

Opis:
Monitoring of deformations, whether using geodetic or geotechnical instrumentation, besides providing a warning system in case of an abnormal behaviour of the dam, may be used as a tool for a verification of design parameters. By comparing results of monitoring measurements with a deterministic (a-priori) model of deformation, one may determine and explain causes of deformation in a case of unexpected behaviour of the investigated object and its surrounding. Thus, the role of monitoring becomes much broader than just the conventional determination of the status of the deformable object. On the other hand, a predicted behaviour of the dam may be used in designing the monitoring scheme, giving information on the magnitude and location of the expected maximum deformation parameters. In addition, with properly designed monitoring surveys, one may also determine the actual deformation mechanism. The discussed problems are illustrated by three types of earth dams located in California, USA, and in Quebec, Canada.

Seismic events in the area of Poland are related mostly to copper and coal mining, and they are regarded as the most dangerous natural hazard. Although development of geomechanical modelling as the development of geophysical methods determining seismic hazard are evident, low predictability of the time-effect relationship still remains. Geomechanical models as geophysical data analysis highlight the interaction between parts of rock mass or allow to reconstruct the way of rock mass destruction and to understand the processes that take place in the high-energy tremors. However, the association of larger mining tremors with pre-existing geological features has been reported by many investigators; in geomechanical practice, investigations of rock mass condition concentrate on this problem in the local scale. Therefore, the problem of relations between high-energy seismic events in Legnica–Głogów Copper District (LGCD) and regional scale deformations of terrain surface resulting from possible tectonic activity is discussed in this paper. The GNSS data evaluated from the observations of ASG-EUPOS (Active Geodetic Network – EUPOS) stations in the area of LGCD and in the adjacent areas is analysed in this study. Temporal variation of distances between the stations and evaluated on that base so called apparent strain was combined with the occurrence of high-energy tremors. Consequently, after the examination and analysis of occurrences of mining tremors, it is found that high-energy seismic events and periods of strain accumulation evaluated from GPS/GNSS data have temporal relations. Although the seismic events were triggered by mining, nearly all the events with energy E > 108 J occurred in the periods when the analysed stations’ positions demonstrated a decrease in the baseline length.

The examination of the concept of network robustness to observation gross errors based on the reliability and strain analysis (see Vanicek et al 2001), has revealed some disadvantages due to a discrete nature of the network's structure. The weak sides of the strain analogy shown in (Gambin et al. 2008), specially for small networks, speak in favour of finding a non-tensor replacement for network robustness measures. One of the possible approaches, applicable to all types of geodetic networks with uncorrelated observations and sufficient for most practical purposes, could be the use of traditional concepts of internal and external reliability for assessing network robustness to observation gross crrors. Such a proposal, maintaining the maximum undetectable error in an individual observation as a source of network deformations (as in Vanicek et al. 2001), and analyzing the resulting node displacements and element deformations, is discussed and illustrated on a simple numerical example. The proposal provides a direct Iink between the robustness and the accuracy analysis of a network, and has a clear onterpretation in terms of mechanical strength analogy. As a theoretical support, deformation-oriented properties of the reliability matrix and the properties of network responses to undetectable observation errors are analyzed.
