Opis:
The article discusses a method applied for combining the results of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and 75-year old triangulation measurements to estimate the crustal movements in central western Bulgaria region. It was examined for joint analysis based on the results of GNSS with angular measurements of the first order triangulation network in Bulgaria during the period 1923–1930 year. As a result of the processing of GNSS and angular measurements, horizontal velocities of 15 points, strain rates, and rotation rates have been obtained. The results show dominating N–S extension at a rate of 1–2 mm/y and the deformation is not uniformly distributed over the studied area. The obtained results indicate the possibility of using old angular measurement of first-order triangulation points, together with GNSS data, to obtain estimates of the horizontal crustal movements.

Opis:
Growing need for fully aulomated and continuous monitoring of structural and ground deformations creates new challenges for the design and analysis of monitoring schemes in which multi-sensor systems start playing a dominating role. At the same time, old problems of effects of atmospheric refraction and identification of unstable reference points still remain valid. On the other hand, rapid progress in deterministic modeling of deformation makes the design and integrated analysis of the multi-sensor monitoring surveys easier and more efficient than in the past. Through the combination of deterministic modeling with the results of monitoring surveys, a better understanding of the behaviour of deformable objects is achieved. Examples are given from monitoring large dams and open pit mines.

Opis:
Concrete face rockfiil dams (CFRDs) are gaining a worldwide recognition as the most economical type of dams to be constructed in extreme northern and sub-Antarctic regions. Safety of CFRDs depends on the proper design, construction, and monitoring of tual behaviour during the construction and during the operation of the structure. The main concern for the safety of CFRDs is the deformation of the concrete face. During the reservoir filling, the load of water and deformations of the dam rockfiil force upstream concrete slab to deform. The displacements of the concrete face during the reservoir filling should not exceed the maximum allowed values in order to maintain the structural integrity of the concrete face. Due to uncertainty of the model parameters, careful monitoring of the dams and their surroundings are required in order to verify and enhance the model. This paper presents a study of the behavior of the upstream concrete face slabs and internal displacements that develop in the rockfiil during construction and during filling the reservoir. The research is based on two examples: the Toulnustouc Dam (75 m) located in Northern Quebec, Canada, and the Shuibuya Dam in P. R. China, the tallest (233 m) concrete face rockfiil dam in the world. The results of in study serve also as a basis for designing deformation monitoring schenies for the conete face rockfiil dams.

Opis:
We present a method of approximation of a deformation eld based on the local ane transformations constructed based on n nearest neighbors with respect to points of adopted grid. The local ane transformations are weighted by means of inverse distance squared between each grid point and observed points (nearest neighbors). This work uses a deformation gradient, although it is possible to use a displacement gradient instead – the two approaches are equivalent. To decompose the deformation gradient into components related to rigid motions (rotations, translations are excluded from the deformation gradient through dierentiation process) and deformations, we used a polar decomposition and decomposition into a sum of symmetric and an anti-symmetric matrices (tensors). We discuss the results from both decompositions. Calibration of a local ane transformations model (i.e., number of nearest neighbors) is performed on observed points and is carried out in a cross-validation procedure. Verication of the method was conducted on simulated data-grids subjected to known (functionally generated) deformations, hence, known in every point of a study area.

Opis:
The paper presents technology and results of measurements of the steel construction of the skylight of the Main Hall of the Warsaw University of Technology. The new version of the automated measuring system has been used for measurements. This system is based on Leica TCRP1201+ total station and the TCcalc1200 software application, developed by the author, which operates on a laptop computer connected with the total station by the wire. Two test measurements were performed. Each of them consisted of cyclic measurement using the polar method, from one station; points located on the skylight construction, as well as control points located on concrete, bearing poles, were successively measured. Besides geometrical values (such as Hz, V angles and the slope distance D), the changes of temperature and atmospheric pressure, were also recorded. Processed results of measurements contained information concerning the behaviour of the skylight; asymmetry of horizontal displacements with respect to the X axis have been proved. Changes of parameters of the instrument telescope and changes of the instrument orientation were also stated; they were connected with changes of the temperature. The most important results of works have been presented in the form of diagrams.
