Opis:
Correct posture is a key element in the proper functioning of the entire body. Both defects and postural disorders lead to overload syndromes and degenerative changes in the musculoskeletal system. Different body positions correlate with respiratory parameters, which form the basis in modifying loudness and accentuation when speaking or singing Body posture can affect the quality of the voice signal and its fatigue. As movement and duration intensify, vocal effort increases. What is still open, however, is the problem of speech signal evaluation, especially in order to obtain assessments useful in the context of supporting medical diagnosis, optimizing therapy and monitoring rehabilitation. Meanwhile, such evaluations are what we need in medicine, rehabilitation and sports. This paper presents excerpts from a study of the effects of changes in posture and fatigue in healthy subjects, and those with phonation disorders, on changes in the acoustic parameters of the speech signal.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to analyse various types of signals defined as tonal where energy is concentrated in a narrow band of the spectrum. Not all tonal noises could be reduced using narrowband active noise control systems with cancelling signal generated based on source parameters. The author proposes the following classes of tonality: periodical (e.g. sinusoidal) signals, sinusoidal signals modulated by random function, sinusoidal signals with increased/decreasing amplitude and/or frequency, a combination of the two previous ones, and narrowband noises. For each type of the analysed signals active elimination of the tonal component using synthesized cancelling signal was carried out. Depending on the type of the signals different results were obtained which indicates the need to clarify the definition of a tonal signal, or use not one concept of a tonal signal, but several classes discussed above.

Opis:
The ability to correctly reproduce notes by the voice is one of the essential features of the singing task and called intonation. In combination with other parameters like timbre, formants, and sound attack, it affects the reception of listening impressions. In this paper, we present results of the examination concerning the automatic evaluation of intonation among the nonsingers, untrained and trained choral singers. We performed both pitch error during vocalization and pitch stability in crescendo task analysis among studied groups. We used Zero Band Filtering method to determine fundamental frequency from the singing signal. We noticed significant differences between singers with different skills and experience, and the possibility to classify the level of advancement of the singer by using intonation characteristic.

The aim of this study is to create the method for automatic recognition of artificial reverberation settings extracted from a reference speech recordings. The proposed method employs machine-learning techniques to support the sound engineer in finding the ideal settings for artificial reverberation plugin available at a given Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), i.e. Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) approach and deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) VGG13, which is a novel approach. Training set and data set are 1885 speech signals selected from a EMIME Bilingual Database which were processed with 66 artificial reverberation presets selected from Semantic Audio Labs’s SAFE Reverb plugin database. Performance of the proposed automatic recognition method was evaluated using similarity measures between features of reference and analysed speech recordings. Evaluation procedure showed that a classical GMM approach gives 43.8% of recognition accuracy while proposed method with VGG13 deep CNN gives 99.94% of accuracy.

Opis:
The paper presents new approach to processing the Barkhausen Noise signal in order to detect and identify plastic deformations in carbon steel. A new automatic method of Barkhausen effect signal filtration was investigated. Apart from a classical measurement of Barkhausen effect signal, for which the RMS value is assumed, the signal waveform factor was also used in analyzes. The developed approach to processing the Barkhausen Noise signal has made it possible to obtain more useful diagnostic data than those obtained from the raw signal.

Opis:
The work considers the applicability of signals coming from rotor-mounted sensors in machine diagnostics. In the experiments, such sensors were implemented by piezoelectric patches bonded to the surface of a shaft. The laboratory stand also included more common sensors: laser sensors that measured the displacement of the central disc, as well as accelerometers mounted on the supports. The signals measured are analysed using the so-called full FFT method and the spectra are compared. The results show that the signals from piezoelectric sensors can be processed so that their spectral content is similar to typical spectra obtained using stator-mounted sensors.

The development of the Internet of things and automatisation in everyday life also influences our houses. There are more and more devices on the market which can be controlled remotely. One kind of such control involves the use of voice signals. This method tends to use microphone arrays and dedicated algorithms to enhance the speech signal and recognize the words in it. In this project, a small 5-microphone array was developed. To enhance the quality of the signal, dedicated software was written. It consists of several modules, including the direction of arrival estimation, denoising, and differentiation between adults and children. The results showed that the custom algorithm can increase the signal to noise ratio by up to 6 dB.

Condition monitoring of vehicles with internal combustion engine is of immense importance due to high number of vehicles with such engines and their importance to transport and economy. As many persons use a vehicle which is old and inexpensive, a condition monitoring system designed for such vehicles cannot be expensive. Unfortunately, condition monitoring of engines is usually based on the use of vibration signals, which are acquired by accelerometers. Piezoelectric accelerometers are the most commonly used for this purpose, and such accelerometers are not cheap. However, an alternative exists in the form of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) accelerometers, which are much cheaper, but have narrower frequency characteristics. This paper describes preliminary results of a research on feasibility of use of MEMS accelerometers for condition monitoring and failure detection in internal combustion engines.

Opis:
The phenomenon of echo in the telecommunications channels is caused by the reflection of an electrical signal in a long line. In order to improve the quality of the transmitted sound, various adaptive filters are used to remove or at least reduce the level of the reflected delayed signal. However, such a process may result in a degradation in the quality of speech, although its intelligibility may not get worse. The work presents the results of subjective studies on assessing the quality of speech signals under the process of acoustic echo cancellation using different algorithms. The algorithms studied were: LMS (Least Mean Squares), NLMS (Normalized Least Mean Squares) and AP (Affine Projection). The study consisted of assessing the signal quality after applying the echo elimination process using the Degradation Category Rating method. A total of 312 signals were used in the test: 192 male speech and 120 female speech samples. Echo simulation was used using different delay times and levels of echo signal. Both types of speech have signal delay times of 20 ms, 50 ms, 100 ms and 200 ms with echo level values of -6 dB, -12 dB, -18 dB and -24 dB. In addition, for female speech signals, a delay time of 150 ms was introduced. The study involved 14 people aged between 18 and 38, including six women and eight men. All subjects had normal good hearing. Seven listeners had participated in subjective listening tests of the sound quality assessment previously. The listeners’ opinions were collected on prepared questionnaire. It was found that the highest ratings were given to the AP filter, while the worst ratings were featured the NLMS. It should also be noted that the range between the results obtained for AP and NLMS for female speech is smaller in comparison to male. It is also interesting that the discrepancy in ratings was greatest for a delay time of 100 ms for the AP filter and 200 ms for the LMS filter. It can therefore be concluded from the obtained results that, in the case of acoustic echo cancelation, AP filter introduced the lowest quality degradation while the LMS achieved slightly worse average ratings when compared to the AP filter . The NLMS filter characterized by the worst ratings, and in some cases received twice the quality degradation compared to the AP filter.

Opis:
This work is devoted to further research and improvement of the vibroacoustic condition monitoring of complex rotation system during operation. The low-frequency vibration and acoustic noise in the range 0-10 kHz is used as diagnostic information. We propose to use Bispectrum (BS) Analysis at the first level of signal processing, and Fractal Analysis of BS contour images at the second level of signal processing for the diagnosis of small imbalance of rotation system. The experimental studies of forced vibrations of the physical model (PM) of the rotation system are carried out under steady-state and non-steady-state rotation excitations. The results of the BS Analysis of vibroacoustical signals, which are emitted by a rotating PM during different excitation modes, are processed in order to determine fractal box-counting dimension (Minkowski dimension). The research shows that a small imbalance can be efficiently detected by the proposed multilevel signal processing in all modes of PM operation.

Opis:
Structural active noise control (ANC) is one of few solutions applicable when global noise reduction is required: control of a whole device casing allows to lower the acoustic energy emitted by this device. Unfortunately, structural ANC usually requires a large number of sensors and actuators, making the control system multichannel with large dimensionality. This in turn presents a huge computational power demands. There are several ways to lower this demand, the partial updates being one of them. The goal of this paper is to show applicability of the leaky partial update LMS algorithms in structural ANC of a washing machine casing. The transfer functions of the numerous device paths were identified using a real washing machine in the ANC laboratory. The identified transfer functions allowed to create a simulation system, where different algorithms could be easily tested. The results of the simulations confirm effectiveness of the proposed solution.

In this paper, an innovative active seat suspension system for vehicles is presented. This seat suspension prototype is built with a shear guidance mechanism, an air spring, a hydraulic shock absorber and end-stop buffers. The acceleration particular signals are measured by using Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) placed on the seat and the human head. As the excitation, the horizontal vibrations are applied. As an alternative to the classical Fourier approach, the Wavelet Transfer Function (WTF) is introduced to describe the effectiveness of particular seat suspension. In both of the system cases, the human head reaction is investigated by using the Matlab package.
