Opis:
In the paper the water consumption level is correlated with some flats conditions. The study based on the 6 years data of more 500 comfortable flats located in multi-familiar buildings in Torun. The water consumption is hardly predicted, because belongs on many parameter, e.g. time, actual population and his periodical fluctuations, technical equipment, weather conditions meteorological. The individual habits, the organization of the day and the work mode are some important fast variable parameters too. The individual average factors for cold, hot and integral water consumption were estimated. The highest observed value was 228 dm3/Md (1 person in M-5 flat) and the minimal one 42 dm3/Md (6 person in M-3 flat). The average water consumption level recommended for projects are: 103 dm3/Md for M-5 flat, 90 dm3/Md for M-4, 89 dm3/Md for M-2 and at last 83,5 dm3/Md for M-2. The propositions are obviously less than the officially recommended (160 dm3/Md). The described time 6 years the water consumption in investigated urban area of Torun goes to stabilization on level 98 dm3/Md. The value was calculated on more 3500 observations. The gamma distribution can be applied for studies of the water consumption (cold, hot or global). The exponential model appears to be good for correlations of the flats occupations and water consumption level. The parameter values decreases to the flat occupation enhancement. The relations of water usage and a flat occupational level, it’s inside area and standard were estimated too. The increasing of the average individual flat area effects the water consumption too. The feature is confirmed by high values of correlation factors. Perhaps the flat existence needs some water volume, independently on flat occupation level. Presented investigations explain because the decreasing of flat occupation not effects by proper downing of the water consumption. The modeling of water consumption processes investigations appears to be suitable in urban projects, separately for the water requirement predictions.

Opis:
Municipal sewage sludge are a by-product of waste water treatment. The problems of sludge associated with the development of sludge require urgent solutions. Municipal sewage sludge may be used in agriculture in two forms: processed and unprocessed if they are stabilized and comply with acceptable levels of heavy metals and sanitation indicators and include the relevant product quantities of organic compounds and fertilizing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Composition and quantity of sludge produced in the wastewater treatment process is different and depends on several parameters such as quality of waste water and processes for their purification. The presents shows an assessment of the physical and chemical sludge from sewage treatment plants selected and the results of research and analysis for the sludge collected from said object. Analysis of the results was carried out for possibilities to use sewage sludge for agricultural purposes. Sewage sludge derived from a sewage treatment plant mechanical-biological stabilization of sludge anaerobic digestion with a capacity of 26,400 m3. per day. The sediment samples were collected in the period from January to September 2015 year with a two-month interval. Attempts were subjected to microwave mineralization in a closed system in aqua regia. The heavy metal concentrations determined with a spectrophotometer Coupled Plasma emission ICP-OES Perkin-Elmer Optima 8000 detecting elements P, Ca, Mg, Pb, Cd, Hg, Ni, Zn, Cu, Cr. The collected sediment were determined: pH, dry weight of sediment, organic matter (marked as loss on ignition at 550 ° C), total nitrogen (Kjeldahl) and ammonium nitrogen. The results were compared with the limit values according to the law. It has been shown that the predominant heavy metals present in the sludge was copper and zinc, mercury was not detected. The value of organic matter sludge tested ranged from 49.36 to 63.15% of dry matter. The content of heavy metals in sediments was measured by reference to the existing provisions governing the use of natural sewage sludge. The contents of heavy metals were low and did not exceed the limit values in sewage sludge for their use in agriculture and land reclamation. The studied sediments were stable nature. The results indicate the good properties of the sludge, which can be used as organic fertilizer. It has been shown that the sludge produced in the study treatment did not exceed in any case permissible concentrations of heavy metals specified for sewage sludge used for agricultural purposes. The annual average content of heavy metals in the study period remained at a similar level. Understanding the composition of the physico-chemical sludge waste is the basis for the decision over their processing, use or disposal. The precipitate may be disposed by using thermal methods for combustion of solid comprising 90% of dry matter.

Opis:
With the treatment of water, especially surface waters, there is produced a high amount of sewage and sludge. They make up a serious ecology problem that due to a high volume and the content of sludge of iron or aluminium oxide-hydroxide or, pollution which occur in the intaken water (mineral and organic substances, algae, protozoa and bacteria) as well as the chemicals added. The environmental protection requires limiting materials as well as it makes you search for effective waste management problem-solving methods. The waste generated at present during water treatment most often undergo dehydration and drying and then they are deposited at the landfill site. The currently binding environmental protection law makes you look for the possibilities of the use of sludge as recycled materials, e.g. in brick factories, cement factories or with sewage treatment. Sludge containing aluminium or iron can be used e.g. in the process of municipal sewage treatment. The application of sludge containing aluminium for dephosphatation has the advantage of protecting the system from secondary release of precipitated phosphates in the environment deprived of dissolved oxygen. The possibilities of sludge application to remove phosphates differ, depend not only on the sludge characteristics but also on the sewage treatment process. The article demonstrates the results of research into using sludge derived from water treatment station in Lubicz to remove phosphates from sewage. At present the sludge after sedimentation and mechanical dehydration with the filtration press finally reaches the municipal landfill site. The sludge, applied for research, concentrated in settling vessels, is a mixture of post-coagulation sludge and washings from anthracite-sand and carbon filters. Its hydration accounting for 98,7% shows a high colour, above 80 mg Pt/dm3, it contains about 2,6 g/dm3 of aluminium as well as organic compounds expressed with BOD5 value equal 170 mg O2/dm3. The sludge shows a high COD of 3990 mg O2/dm3, and organic substance – for 31,6% of dry weight. The study of effectiveness of the removal of phosphates was made with the vessel test method. The sludge was dispensed at a changing volume from 0,5 to 100 cm3 per 1 dm3 of prepared water and then sewage. Both in water and in sewage there was recorded a 90% removal of phosphates by applying 80 cm3 of sludge per 1 dm3 of the sample. Additionally there was investigated the effect of dispensed sludge on the effectiveness of sewage treatment with the model of the treatment plant with rotating biological contactors. Applying the rate of 40 cm3 of sludge per 1 dm3 produced 96,0% elimination of COD, 97,7% removal of organic compounds characterised with the values of COD and BOD5 as well as 100% removal of phosphates. Finally it was found that it is possible to use the sludge to remove phosphates from sludge. During dephosphatation there was reported no use-up of the natural alkalinity of sewage. Sludge dispensing did not result in a decrease in the effectiveness of sewage treatment with the method of rotating biological contactors. The research is preliminary in nature and it needs to be continued.

Opis:
The activated sludge method is most frequently used at the stage of biological waste water treatment. The main reason for improper sludge sedimentation is the excessive growth of filamentous bacteria leading to disturbances in technological processes of sewage treatment plants, such as formation of swollen, flowing out sludge, foam transforming in to a thick surface scum, which consequently contributes to a decrease in the effectiveness of removing pollutions from sewage. There is a growing tendency to make attempts aiming at optimizing the chemical methods used to eliminate filamentous bacteria which often constitute a factor limiting proliferation of those bacteria. Accordingly, research was undertaken to estimate the effect of some iron and aluminum coagulants and oxidizing compounds (chlorine dioxide and sodium hypochlorite) on the elimination of filamentous bacteria in the activated sludge in the aspect of sewage treatment effectiveness. Activated sludge was collected from the mechanical and biological sewage treatment plant situated in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian voivodeship. The study was carried out using a laboratory biological reactor graduated to reflect the technological parameters of the sewage treatment plant. Analyses involved determination of physicochemical parameters (total suspensions, sludge volumetric index, sludge density index) and the microscopic evaluation of activated sludge (floc parameters, the composition of microfauna, the Sludge Biotic Index, the quantitative and species composition of filamentous bacteria). At the next stage of the experiment, water solution of iron chloride, water solution of polyaluminum chloride, chlorine dioxide and sodium hypochlorite were proportioned to the activated sludge. At the same time, samples of activated sludge were analyzed without chemical reagents. After a week, the effect of applied reagents on the quantitative and species composition of filamentous bacteria and the other components of activated sludge biocenosis was evaluated. It was proved that activated sludge subjected to analyses was characterized by poor sedimentation properties, resulted from the excessive proliferation of filamentous bacteria of which the most numerous, dominant group was the species Microthrix parvicella. Best effects of filamentous bacteria elimination were recorded after the use of aluminum coagulant, which selectively affected filamentous microorganisms, effectively limiting their excessive proliferation and at the same time not exerting the negative impact on the other organisms of activated sludge. The preparation affected favorable values of the Sludge Biotic Index, which did not substantially differ from that parameter in the control sample. Polyaluminum chlorite caused elimination of the bacteria Sphaerotilus natans and a considerable decrease in the numbers of type 0041micro-organisms. At the same time that preparation contributed to improving sedimentation properties of activated sludge flocs, as a result of which the volumetric index values were decreased in successive research samples, whereas the density index increased. The applied sodium hypochlorite contributed to the elimination of filamentous bacteria, and at the same time it slightly decreased the other parameters of activated sludge. It was indicated that chlorine dioxide contributed to a considerable decrease in diversity of activated sludge microfauna, causing a decrease in the number of crawling ciliates on the flocs and sedentary forms of those macroorganisms. Moreover an increase in the number of bacteriocidal free-floating protozoa and small flagellates resulted in a substantial decrease in the IBO value. The highest doses of reagent caused impoverishment of the biocenosis, which resulted in a decrease in the biotic index values by 7 units in relation to the control sample, activated sludge in those samples was qualified as IV class of sludge quality. The best effects in filamentous bacteria elimination were recorded after the use of aluminum preparation and chlorine compounds (chlorine dioxide, sodium hypochlorite).

Opis:
Fountains located in health resorts frequently serve as therapeutic waters intended for recreational and balneological purposes. Therefore, the quality of water and air around such objects is crucial for patients using the fountains. Fountain water conducive to the occurrence of pathogen microorganisms, such as: coliform bacteria, staphylococci, streptococci, Salmonella spp. and microscopic fungi. They mostly cause a gastrointestinal and skin infections. The research here presented aimed at the assessment of the degree of bacterial and fungal contamination of water samples taken from fountains located in the Ciechocinek health resort from the perspective of biosafety of tourists and patients. Microbiological analysis of the water sample was taken from four fountains (object A-D), one of which (object C) was supplied with brine water. The plate method was used to determination of a total count of bacteria and a total count of fungi in the water samples. For the quantitative determination of coliform bacteria, Escherichia coli, staphylococci and streptococci, the membrane filter technique was employed. The studies showed that the samples of water from fountains contained bacteriological and mycological contamination in which microfungi being the most abundant group. The water samples contained a few cells of E. coli, fecal streptococci and staphylococci. The most frequently indentified indicator bacteria in sample water from fountain D were faecal streptococci (3.17·101 cfu/100 ml). The water samples coming from the object B and D and in most water samples from the object C, there was no presence of these bacteria. As the data indicate, the largest differences regarding the population of those microorganisms were between water samples taken from Fountain B and C. The highest frequency of the occurrence of the E. coli bacilli was recorded in fountain A, while they occurred once in research series 5 taken from fountain C. The mean amount of these bacteria in the water samples taken from Fountain D was 5.76·100 cfu/100 ml, which was more than 40 times higher than the mean population of these microorganisms isolated from the water taken from Fountain C (0.14·100 cfu/100 ml). The studies demonstrate that the least number of coliform bacteria and E. coli was found in fountain C, where 4.51% brine water was used. The highest number of staphylococci during the entire research period was determined in water sample taken from fountain D (7.9·101 cfu/100 ml), while in water sample taken from fountains A and C and in sample from fountain B, no such bacteria were found. Occurrence of faecal bacteria, staphylococci and microscopic fungi in water may pose a risk of diseases for people who use the fountains. The research indicated that it is necessary to perform monitoring of fountain water and introduce legal regulations regarding its sanitary and hygiene condition.
Metodą płytkową oznaczono ogólną liczbę bakterii i grzybów mikroskopowych. Największe różnice dotyczące liczebności tych mikroorganizmów wystąpiły w przypadku próbek wody pochodzących z fontanny B i C. W obiekcie A notowano najwyższą częstotliwość występowania pałeczek E. coli, natomiast w przypadku fontanny C występowały one w jednym przypadku w wody pochodzącej z 5 serii badawczej.
