Opis:
In the paper [1] assumptions for fatigue life calculations in the low- and high- cycle fatigue ranges of metal alloys, have been formulated. Three calculation methods: that expressed in stresses, strains and a mixed (stress-strain) one, have been there presented. In this paper results of fatigue life calculations of C45 steel performed in line with the above mentioned methods have been described, and their comparative analysis has been made. The calculations have been carried out for two-level and multi-level load programs of the varying parameters: maximum load within a load program and different values of spectrum filling factor. The comparative analysis of the results of fatigue life calculations in compliance with the above mentioned methods makes it possible to assess differences in the results and depenendence of the differences on values of load program parameters.

Spectacular accidents at sea which have happened for a few last years show that hull structures of contemporary sea-going ships are not perfect and must be systematically improved. Fatigue strength is one of the groups of strength problems which affect design of contemporary ship’s structures and greatly contribute in their improvement process. In this paper several approaches to estimation of fatigue life of hull structural elements are presented. In practice the some approaches based on nominal stresses, „hot spot” stresses or notch stresses which constitute the basis for fatigue life determination by using ó-N design curves are applied. In this paper the existing proposals have been critically analyzed and their drawbacks (often hidden) presented.

Opis:
Fatigue is one of the main failure modes in marine structures, and it is caused by the strong cyclic characteristics of the loads they support. This failure mode is amplified in areas of high stress concentration, such as at the intersection of primary and secondary elements. In this paper, a two-phase study is proposed that compares numerical and experimental results using a digital image correlation technique. The described procedure establishes selection, design, and scantling criteria and provides recommendations for the design of the transverse structure using specimens with different geometries. These geometries correspond to different designs for the transverse primary structure that use a longitudinal secondary stiffener with variable thickness and longitudinal spacing to transverse in a dynamic and quasi-static regime. The stress state for this regime is calculated based on the biaxiality indication concept, which uses the fatigue phenomenon (safety factor and sensitivity curves) and fracture mechanics (parameters of the Paris crack propagation law, correlation value, and law of variation of the stress intensity factor).

This paper presents results of the fatigue life tests of elements of steel laser-welded sandwich structure, performed at the Department of Machine Design, University of Technology and Agriculture, Bydgoszcz, in cooperation with the Department of Ship and Offshore Structures Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology, within the frame of ASPIS EUREKA E!3074 project titled : „Application of steel sandwich panels into ship structural design”. The obtained information on fatigue features of various specimens, the so called elementary structures of sandwich panels, can make it possible to formulate design and manufacturing recommendations for application of such structures in shipbuilding. An important result of the performed tests is the extended range of fatigue strength data for laser-welded joints.

This paper presents a comparative analysis of results of fatigue life calculations with the use of the linear summation hypothesis of fatigue failures (LHSUZ), confronted with experimental test results. The calculations and fatigue tests were performed for variable amplitude(VA), two-step and ten-step loading conditions , both in the low-cycle fatigue (LCF) and high-cycle fatigue ( HCF) range, for the case of C45 steel as an example. Experimental verification of the hypothesis LHSUZ did not revealed any significant influence of load level and form of load spectrum on conformity of results of the calculation by using the LHSUZ, to results of fatigue tests on C45 steel. However, it enabled to assess magnitude of a correction factor which appears in the considered linear hypothesis.

This paper presents issues of fatigue life calculations in operational load conditions. The assumed runs were so processed as to get a set of sinusoidal cycles by using the following methods: full cycles counting method and rainflow counting method. On the basis of such sets of cycles of the varying parameters Sm i and Sa i were prepared block load spectra of equivalent amplitudes Saz , obtained with the use of an original method of these authors, in which two-parameter fatigue characteristics were applied. The work resulted in comparison of fatigue life results for load spectra determined by using the assumed cycles counting methods and the assumed two-parameter fatigue characteristics: the model IM, model II, model III and model IV, respectively.

In the calculating of fatigue life of structural elements the methods based on hypotheses of fatigue damage summation are commonly applied. In using the methods, apart from choice of an appropriate hypothesis, it is necessary to know a loading spectrum which usually constitutes a set of sinusoidal cycles of variable parameters (Sa, Sm), as well as fatigue characteristics in the form of Wöhler fatigue diagram, as a rule. Knowledge of the above mentioned data is low during structural design process as designed material objects and possibility of performing measurements are lacking. Hence in this work a calculation method of fatigue life of structural elements, based on the relations between fatigue life diagrams determined in constant-amplitude conditions (Wöhler diagrams) and those obtained under programmed or random loads, is described. The proposed method was experimentally verified by using results of fatigue tests on structural elements made of D16CzATW aluminium alloy.

In this study there are presented ISO 6336 standard and recommendations of classification society CN 41.2-DNVGL regarding calculations of cylindrical toothed gears used in all oceanic ships and oil rigs. The calculation method presented in this study allows to perform calculations of the safety coefficient for stress at the tooth base SF and for contact stress SH. The calculations have been performed for gears with different geometric parameters and for three load spectra. The obtained results enable to determine the values of relative differences in δF and δH, which are: δF = 16,7% to 42,8% and δH = 10,4% to 22,6%.

The presented strength and fatigue calculations refer to an unsupported deck crane and its three distinct parts: housing, jib and column. Static loads applied to the structure were due to the crane’s own weight and a maximum working load, corresponding to a maximum lifting capacity at a maximum outreach of the crane. The numerical analysis was aimed at determining the thickness of the skin plating of the column and the number, shape and distribution of stiffeners in the column, housing and jib, ensuring that the crane yields correct strength and fatigue parameters. During the process of designing marine structures, the standard numerical analysis is, in many cases, limited to calculations in the basic strength range. Even when using numerical methods of analysis, complex strength and fatigue calculations are often not performed. The modern numerical analysis chain for marine structures should concentrate not only on strength analysis, but should take a further step, which encompasses fatigue analysis. The article presents a new outlook on design methods, which should be the entry point to the design of marine structures. Based on the acquired number of cycles of fatigue life, it is possible to estimate, with a sufficient degree of accuracy, the practical service life of a structure. To solve the problem, the authors used the finite element analysis software ABAQUS supported by the fe-safe system.

The fatigue problem induced by wave loads and floater movements of dynamic umbilicals in deepwater is studied. The prediction method of the fatigue life is investigated by considering no-linear local stress due to contact and friction between components of the umbilical. A case study of a dynamic umbilical for 1500 meters depth in South China Sea was presented. The results showed that the more accurate result of the fatigue life was calculated by considering non-linear local stress. The fatigue life by considering local stress with the no-slip assumption was conservative. An obviously longer fatigue life was obtained by considering local stress with the full-slip assumption.

This paper presents experimental verification of models of two-parametric fatigue characteristics N(óa , óm ) on the basis of results of fatigue tests of specimens made of S355J0 steel. On the basis of comparative analysis of results of computations and fatigue life tests of the specimens, performed under constant amplitude sinusoidal loads of different cycle asymmetry ratios, the most versatile models were distinguished. The tests in question were carried out in the high-cycle fatigue range.
