Opis:
The paper covers the important topic of rotor–stator propulsor system design and operation. For the stand-alone marine screw propeller, both the design criteria for loading distribution and the theoretical efficiency limits are well described in the basic literature. This is in contrast to the combined propulsor system like a propeller cooperating with a pre-swirl device. The paper describes the current state of the art, summarising results obtained by various researchers by installing energy-saving devices on particular vessels. The design methods utilised are briefly outlined, with the main characteristics underlined. Rough analysis of the gathered data confirms the expected trend that a higher efficiency gain due to ESD installation is possible for a higher propeller loading.

Opis:
Working liquid compressibility may considerably change the values and proportions of coefficients of volumetric and mechanical energy losses in the displacement pump used in a hydrostatic drive system. This effect can be particularly seen in the operation under high pressure and also in the system, where aeration of the working liquid can occur. In the Part I a diagram is presented, proposed by the author, of power increase in a hydrostatic drive system (hydraulic motor, pump) opposite to the direction of power flow, replacing the Sankey diagram of power decrease in the direction of power flow. Mathematical model is presented of volumetric losses in the pump and its laboratory verification.

Working liquid compressibility may considerably change the values and proportions of coefficients of the volumetric and mechanical energy losses in the displacement pump used in a hydrostatic drive system. This effect can be particularly seen in the operation under high pressure and also in the system, where aeration of the working liquid can occur. In the Part II the mathematical model is presented of the torque of mechanical losses in the pump and its laboratory verification. Conclusions are drawn regarding the effect of working liquid compressibility on the mechanical and volumetric losses in the pump.

Designers and manufacturers of hydrostatic drives have not a tool for precise determination of their energy efficiency, changing in a wide range in the driven device operating field, i.e. in the full range of the hydraulic motor speed and load and the working medium viscosity. This applies both to determining of losses and energy efficiency of displacement machines (pump and hydraulic motor) used in the drive system, and to losses and energy efficiency of the motor control system structure. A method is proposed compatible with the diagram of power increase opposite to the direction of power flow. That diagram replaces the Sankey diagram of power decrease in the direction of power flow.

Opis:
In order to effectively promote the construction of the Yangtze River economic belt, it has become China’s national strategy to vigorously develop the river-sea-going transportation. In the present paper, theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and model test are combined together to develop flat-type river-sea-going ship which is characterized with larger loading capacity, lower fuel consumption, better performance on energy-saving and environmental-friendly, excellent economy and higher transportation efficiency. Key technologies on hydrodynamic performance, structural safety, energy-saving technology and green ship technology are investigated to develop the river-sea-going ship. The developed “4E” level ship has great significance to the implementation of national strategic deployment.

The world is facing the challenge of continuously increasing energy consumption. At the same time, the energy resources are getting scarcer. Despite a sudden significant drop of fuel prices worldwide, research activities that focus on reducing the dependence on fossil fuels as a traditional source of energy still have the preference in the field of shipping industry. The use of clean and renewable energies, such as solar energy for instance, is proposed as a method to improve the ship efficiency. Ships can get the benefits from solar energy due to the fact that most of their upper decks are always exposed to the Sun, especially in sunny water regions. The present paper discusses the effectiveness and challenges of installing solar panels for auxiliary power production on board a ship. As a case study, the research evaluates both economic and environmental benefits resulting from implementing such concept aboard a research vessel.
