Opis:
It is of utmost importance in the design process that a suitable, safe and concurrently economic solution be chosen. Issues connected with foundations require adopting a special approach. Soil is a composite medium, and it is essential to describe as precisely as possible the interaction taking place between the subgrade and the structure. There are many design methods of pile foundation that are based on in-situ test of soils. As a result of incessant development of the pile installation technology, the results obtained with design methods used to date do not assure the required accuracy, and consequently the values of pile load capacity are not sufficiently accurate. A partial solution to this problem may be applying the observation method. Based on assumptions of phenomenology as a science that enable cognition of natural and mathematical phenomena, a procedure has been developed for projecting loading-settlement dependencies for Vibro piles installed in port areas in Poland. Those areas are characterised by similar soil and water conditions, as well as soil genesis and parameters. This procedure enables estimating the limit of load capacity values with much better accuracy than the hitherto used direct methods. The full range of the s(Q) function also enables the possibility of designing structures allowing for stringent criteria of admissible settlements having a specified value.

Opis:
In this paper, the dome of a tank in the Świnoujście LNG terminal is analysed. Some of the rafter ribs at the connection with hangers were not mounted during construction of the tank dome. Therefore, it has become necessary to estimate its response, which has been done with the aid of some computational models of the dome, that have been created in the finite element method environment. Different local models are studied, aiming to recreate possible outermost conditions of the tank dome response, i.e. with or without composite action between steel and concrete parts of the tank dome. Static calculations with material and geometric nonlinearities are carried out on the computational models, enabling the creation of a load capacity envelope of the rafter with or without ribs. The obtained results are then used to decide if repair works need to be done and whether the missing ribs should be welded.

Opis:
The Author concludes, that there is a possibility of determining a concrete value of the liquid aeration coefficient ε during the pump operation by finding such value of ε with which the increase ΔMPm|ΔpPi = pn, qPgv of torque of mechanical losses is proportional to the indicated torque MPi|ΔpPi = pn, qPgv determined with a fixed value ΔpPi = cte of increase of pressure in the pump working chambers. The fixed value ΔpPi assumed in searching the liquid aeration coefficient ε equals to the nominal pump operation pressure pn (ΔpPi = cte = pn ). The increase ΔMPm|ΔpPi = pn, qPgv of torque of mechanical losses with a fixed value of ΔpPi (ΔpPi = cte) is proportional to the pump geometrical working capacity qPgv , therefore: only with taking into account the aeration coefficient ε of liquid displaced by the pump the relation ΔMPm|ΔpPi = pn, qPgv ~ qPgv can be obtained from tests. The method, proposed by the Author, of determining the working liquid aeration coefficient ε, is presented in this paper and has been practically applied for the first time by Jan Koralewski in his investigations of the influence of viscosity and compressibility of aerated hydraulic oil on volumetric and mechanical losses in a pump of HYDROMATIK A7V.58.1.R.P.F.00 type [8, 9].

Opis:
Modulus B of the liquid volume elasticity of non-aerated and aerated oil is defined in the paper as relation to the indicated increase of pressure in the pump working chambers, with the change of oil temperature and degree of aeration. In evaluation of the losses due to oil compressibility in a variable capacity displacement pump, the volume of compressed liquid at each pump setting is taken into account. Volumetric losses have been divided into leakage losses in the pump chambers and losses due to liquid compressibility. The need of accounting for only the leakage losses for pump evaluation is pointed out.
