Opis:
The advantages and disadvantages of the BIM design system for creating indoor installations are presented using the example of ventilation installation. In this work, one of the most effective systems has been designed for a school complex in Lviv region, Ukraine. The ventilation system was designed with the help of BIM technology in the Autodesk Revit software. After creating the 3D model of the ventilation system, aerodynamic calculations were performed and ventilation equipment selected.

Opis:
The study aimed to identify difficulties in choosing the correct concept of the main building process. The use of a proper BIM design may help the user avoid mistakes and make the building process faster as well as less financial resource intensive. The authors focused on literature review, analysing the difficulties of the BIM design software technology in construction project planning. The biggest flaws in BIM design are inherent in three building process stages: 1) the preparation of a building investment project, and the analysis of the existing situation; 2) the preparation of the building execution technology project; 3) the existing standard processing and information collection in building exploitation period. The analysis shows a persistent need for a deeper BIM design research, to improve information interchange formats that would ensure as much design information saved as possible with ensured feedback. As well as in BIM design, the software packages must be improved by supplementing them with deficient tools or programme codes. After the research of BIM design software, it was determined that architectural, constructional and MEP programs work best interdependently and get analysed the most. These programs work best as they make the least number of mistakes when the model is created in one setting and has many tools. This type of design software data is kept internally, and they are converted into IFC or other information interchange format. Without changing the format, the data is not lost, and this is the reason behind fluent information interchange.

Opis:
Modern construction technologies strongly affect the environment. Therefore, design and building construction should also follow the sustainable development principle. In this case, design and construction work based on the sustainable development principle should aim at creating a safe and healthy living environment, the economical use of natural resources, and the stimulation of economic development to create the welfare for humans and favourable natural conditions. The article proposes a mathematical algorithm as a comprehensive solution for engineering management of the planning construction site, from the calculation of the earthworks to the automated creation of the engineering geological cross-sections. The paper integrates engineering management, mathematical modelling, and BIM technology. The application of the building information model is undoubtedly one of the most advanced technologies used in the engineering management field, whose advantages have been shown by researchers. In the preliminary stage of construction and production management, decisions should be made regarding material and human resources, schedules, and estimates. The main purpose of this article is the optimisation of the excavation. Other issues important to the organisation and management of the construction are the planning of safe work on the construction site, depending on the soil type. Geotechnical sections allow ascertaining the need for additional fortifications and the depth of the fortifications for safe work. The paper describes the principal mathematical model developed by the authors to design a construction site using BIM technologies. It presents the main formulas of a mathematical algorithm aimed at selecting the objects used on the building site and the need for them. It also gives the main principles of engineering management and methods for selecting the mechanisms used on the construction site. Understandably, a specialist’s visit to the construction site will not be avoided, and it is difficult to present the entire current situation only with a review report or photographs. Using a photogrammetric model, the expert has the opportunity not only to visually evaluate the current condition but also to perform measurements (length, width, and volume) directly in the photogrammetric model. Important and new information about the construction site indicates all relevant obstacles, i.e., plants, surrounding constructions, and other objects.

Opis:
The construction industry has often been described as stagnant and out-of-date due to the lack of innovation and innovative work methods to improve the industry (WEF, 2016; Ostravik, 2015). The adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) within the construction industry has been relatively slow (Cao et al., 2017), particularly in the South African Construction and Built Environment (CBE) (Allen, Smallwood & Emuze, 2012). The purpose of this study was to determine the critical factors influencing the adoption of BIM in the South African CBE, specifically from a quantity surveyor’s perspective, including the practical implications. The study used a qualitative research approach grounded in a theoretical framework. A survey questionnaire was applied to correlate the interpretation of the theory with the data collected (Naoum, 2007). The study was limited to professionals within the South African CBE. The study highlighted that the slow adoption of BIM within the South African CBE was mainly due to a lack of incentives and subsequent lack of investment towards the BIM adoption. The study concluded that the South African CBE operated mainly in silos without centralised coordination. The BIM adoption was only organic. Project teams were mostly project orientated, seeking immediate solutions, and adopted the most appropriate technologies for the team’s composition. The study implies that the South African CBE, particularly the Quantity Surveying profession, still depends heavily on other roleplayers in producing information-rich 3D models. Without a centralised effort, the South African Quantity Surveying professionals will continue to adopt BIM technology linearly to the demand-risk ratio as BIM maturity is realised in the South African CBE.

Opis:
BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology is presented against the background of the history of development of digital building information modeling systems, paying attention to industry integration and the role of the parametric model. Using the example of two completed objects such as the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul (2007–2014) by Zaha Hadid Architects and the King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture (ITHRA) in Dhahran (2006–2017) by Snøhetta, it is explained how the CAD/CAE/CAM implementation design strategy has an impact on parametric object-based modeling coupled with building information modeling. The data flow and the non-conflicting nature of the process of introducing changes to the working models are important here. Today, BIM technology is one of the most promising digital technologies and is still being improved based on the experience of designers and contractors.
