Książka jest podsumowaniem i zwieńczeniem dziesięcioletnich badań autorki nad tytułowym zagadnieniem idei domu pogranicza w kulturze wsi podlaskiej i jego przekształceń na tle aspektów przestrzennych i kulturowych. Rozważania na temat przestrzeni zamieszkania dotyczą zarówno architektury tradycyjnego domu w zagrodzie pogranicza polsko-białoruskiego, jak i związanych z nim wierzeń lokalnych społeczności prawosławnych.
Mając na uwadze fakt sukcesywnie następujących przeobrażeń kulturowych dotykających swoim zasięgiem także współczesną wieś podlaską, zaistniała potrzeba zebrania i utrwalenia na piśmie dawnych zwyczajów związanych z domostwem oraz prezentacja ram architektonicznych, w których miały one miejsce. Można je potraktować jako element niezbędny do podtrzymania pamięci wśród tych i następnych pokoleń.
The book is a summary of ten years of research on the topic of borderland ho- mes in the culture of Podlasie and its transformation in terms of spatial and cultural aspects. Considerations about the space of residence concern both the architecture of a traditional home on the Polish-Belarusian borderland and its relation to beliefs of local Orthodox communities. Located in the north-eastern part of Poland, the Podlasie voivodeship is one of the most ethnically, culturally and religiously diverse regions in the country. Ele- ments of various nationalities are present here: Polish, Belarusian, Ukrainian as well as historically local and immigrant cultures (Roman-Byzantine), and are not mutually exclusive, but on the contrary – they unify, creating a common borderland culture. This diversity is evident both in the material sphere – with a settlement system preserved from the 16th century in an almost unchanged state, or wooden houses architecture with decorative forms unparalleled anywhere else in the co- untry, as well as spiritual aspects: rituals and customs of local communities passed down from generation to generation have become a system of values, and at the same time an identifier of an ethnic group. Being aware of the fact that successive cultural transformations also affect the contemporary Podlasie village, there was a need to collect and save in writing old customs related to the household and the presentation of the architectural frame- work in which they took place. This book can be treated as an element necessary to maintain the collective memory of this generation for those that will follow. - Dostawca treści:
