A review of European housing developments over the past 100 years shows that these buildings have consistently been in line with the current artistic, architectural and social trends. Their quality and standard always resulted from economic conditions. That is also true today. It should also be noted that the split and division of Europe to the east and west (existing in the 20th century) has almost completely disappeared. The tendencies of globalization lead to the emergence of buildings entirely outside the context of location. Their architectural forms are subject to unify and branch of from local traditions. This is supported by the global architecture market, with developers realizing their projects almost everywhere in the world. Today’s multi-family residential buildings are expected to astound recipients. This leads to the formation of “strange” mind-blowing realizations. The next few years will bring more surprises. It is therefore impossible to point out one leading aesthetic tendency, because it is now replaced by impossible to define diversity.

Fotografia jest techniką, która pozwala na dokumentowanie architektury sakralnej oraz innych przejawów sacrum, ale jest też dyscypliną sztuki, która ma potencjał wniesienia w sferę sacrum nowych wartości, poszerzenia jego kręgu kulturowego. Autor jest fotografikiem o bogatym dorobku w dziedzinie kreatywnego fotografowania architektury, szczególnie architektury sakralnej. Prace z cyklu „Kształt Światła” reprezentowały sztukę polską na Międzynarodowym Festiwalu Sztuki w Caracas w roku 1991, a także były prezentowane na wielu indywidualnych wystawach w Europie. Cykl „Idea Piramid” był tematem pracy doktorskiej obronionej w roku 2013. Przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu jest porównanie ekspresji czarno-białych fotografii interpretujących artystycznie wnętrza gotyckich kościołów Torunia i Barcelony oraz barwnych fotografii piramid egipskich w Gizie. Chociaż na fotografiach wykonanych odmiennymi technikami widnieją bardzo różne budowle, powstałe z inspiracji zupełnie odmiennych religii i cywilizacji, odległych w czasie epok i oddalonych miejsc na mapie świata, to zarówno w jednym, jak i drugim przypadku zasadniczym ich tematem jest sacrum. W przypadku architektury gotyckiej autor koncentruje się na sakralnym wnętrzu z wyeksponowaniem mistycznej roli światła wpadającego do wnętrza przez witraże. Piramidy w Gizie występują w kontekście przyrody, otwartej przestrzeni piasków Pustyni Libijskiej, koloru nieba oraz pojawiającego się w tle wielkiego miasta - Kairu. Pozostaje do oceny odbiorców tej sztuki, czy zaprezentowane fotografie przedstawiające architekturę sakralną powstałą przed wiekami i tysiącleciami, skalą kreacji poszerzają sferę sacrum przełomu XX i XXI wieku, czy są tylko przekazem o duchowości tamtych epok.
Photography is a field of technology that allows documenting sacral architecture and other forms of sacred artefacts. But it is also a field of art that has the ability to introduce new values into the sacred sphere, to broaden its cultural environment. The author is a photographer with numerous achievements in creative photography particularly sacred architecture. Works of the “Kształt Światła” (The Shape of Light) collection represented Polish art at the International Art Festival in Caracas in 1991 and also were presented at numerous individual exhibitions in Europe. The “Idea Piramid” (The Idea of Pyramids) collection was the subject of a doctoral thesis completed in 2013. The subject of this paper is the comparison of expression of black and white photographs interpreting in artistic way by comparison the interiors of gothic churches in Toruń and Barcelona with colour photographs of Egyptian pyramids in Giza. Although these photographs - created with different techniques - show very different constructions built from the inspiration of completely different religions and civilizations, remote both in time and space, but still in both cases their primary subject is sacred. In Gothic architecture the author concentrates on the sacred interior, exposing the mystical role of light entering the interior through stained glass. Pyramids in Giza are presented in the context of natural environment, open space of the Libyan Desert sand, the colour of the sky and the huge city of Cairo visible in the background. The recipients of this form of art should decide themselves if presented photographs shows sacred architecture created centuries and millennia ago broaden the sacred sphere of the turn of 20th and 21st centuries with the scale of their creation? Or, are they only a presentation of spirituality of the past?

The dynamic development of motorization causes inadequate parking places in the city centers as well as in their outskirts. The emergence of new residential buildings and public utilities results in the need to create new parking spaces. Due to the problem of limited development space as well as the high cost of building plots, investors decide to create one or multi-storey closed garages. The area of these garages often reaches several tens of thousands of square meters. For these new parking spaces, an adequate and effective ventilation system should be provided, which at the same time functions as a residential ventilation system, and has a fire ventilation function as a means of protecting escape routes and rescue teams during a fire.

W listopadzie i grudniu 2015 roku przeprowadzono badania terenowe we wsi Kalinówka-Basie, na pograniczu ziemi podlaskiej, mazowieckiej i łomżyńskiej, znajdując osiem domów o glinobitych ścianach spośród około piętnastu, które według zapewnień mieszkańców stały tam wcześniej (mieszkańcy wzmiankowali też o bliżej nieokreślonej liczbie glinianych budynków gospodarczych). Domy wzniesiono w ćwierćwieczu 1940-1967. Stanowią one godną uwagi część lokalnego dziedzictwa technologicznego i architektonicznego, wyróżniającego się na tle drewnianej zabudowy regionu.
Field surveys in Kalinówka-Basie, N-E Poland, have been performed in November and December, 2015, resulting with information about eight existing vernacular earthen houses dated back to the period 1940-1967. About fifteen cob houses and a number of earthen barns were in existence in the past. Vernacular earthen buildings in the hamlet are noteworthy as part of earthen architectural heritage in the region, in spite of the common prevalence of log houses.

Rozprawę oparto na badaniach terenowych na Suwalszczyźnie, przeprowadzonych przez Jarosława Szewczyka w latach 2008 oraz 2010, a następnie przez Joannę Lutyńską w 2015 roku. W pierwszej części zaprezentowano głównie informacje pozyskane ustnie podczas wywiadów, dotyczące dawnego budownictwa z gliny na tle dotychczasowej wiedzy technicznej i naukowej o glinianym budownictwie regionu. Część druga dotyczy wybranych szczegółów technologicznych, na tle wiedzy o tak zwanym „budownictwie z materiałów lokalnych”, propagowanym w pierwszych dekadach powojennych w całej Polsce, a zwłaszcza na ziemiach północno-wschodnich; zaprezentowano również przykłady glinianego budownictwa z gminy Szypliszki. Omówiono tu także szerszy kontekst geograficzny oraz wybrane rozwiązania techniczne.
Vernacular architecture investigation and field surveys were performed in a number of villages in Suwalszczyzna (the region of Suwałki), N-E Poland. There were three survey stages: the first one in 2008 (by Jarosław Szewczyk), then in 2010 (by Jarosław Szewczyk) and in 2015 (by Joanna Lutyńska). In the first part of the article the subject matter has been examined on the background of literature surveys and based on the oral interviews with builders of old clay buildings. The second part refers to technical nuances, on the background of a post-war local trends towards architecture made of “local materials”; besides, an examples of clay buildings from the Szypliszki commune are presented. Moreover, the geographic context has been rendered, and the relevant technology issues have been examined.

Rozprawę oparto na badaniach terenowych na Suwalszczyźnie, przeprowadzonych przez Jarosława Szewczyka w latach 2008 oraz 2010, a następnie przez Joannę Lutyńską w 2015 roku. Celem tych trzyetapowych badań było zgromadzenie informacji o zachowanym tam budownictwie ludowym, zaś ich wynikiem jest około 600 zdjęć i cykl wywiadów z autochtonami. W artykule zaprezentowano najciekawsze uzyskane informacje, potwierdzające tezę o bogatym miejscowym dziedzictwie technologicznym, jakim jest budownictwo glinobite i jego pochodne odmiany. W pierwszej części zaprezentowano głównie informacje pozyskane ustnie podczas wywiadów, dotyczące dawnego budownictwa z gliny na tle dotychczasowej wiedzy technicznej i naukowej o glinianym budownictwie regionu. Część druga dotyczyć będzie wybranych szczegółów technologicznych na tle wiedzy o tak zwanym „budownictwie z materiałów lokalnych”, propagowanym w pierwszych dekadach powojennych w całej Polsce, a zwłaszcza na ziemiach północnowschodnich; zaprezentowano również przykłady glinianego budownictwa z gminy Szypliszki. Część trzecia będzie dotyczyć tradycyjnego budownictwa z innych obszarów Suwalszczyzny oraz kontynuacji tradycji glinianego budownictwa na Suwalszczyźnie w czasach obecnych, to jest w XXI wieku.
Field surveys were performed in a number of villages in Suwalszczyzna (the region of Suwałki), N-E Poland. The surveys were aimed at collecting data about vernacular architecture at that region. There were three survey stages: the first one in 2008 (by Jarosław Szewczyk), then in 2010 (by Jarosław Szewczyk) and in 2015 (by Joanna Lutyńska). The results, which comprised about 600 photographs and a set of interviews with natives, have been analyzed and presented in the paper, supporting the thesis that the indigenous vernacular architecture of the region included rich traditions of earthen architecture, such as cob construction, in particular. In the first part of the article the subject matter has been examined on the background of literature surveys and based on the oral interviews with builders of old clay buildings. The second part will refer to technical nuances, on the background of a post-war local trends towards architecture made of “local materials”; besides, an examples of clay buildings from the Szypliszki commune will be presented. The consecutive third part of the research report series is going to refer to the traditional earthen building in other communes in the region of Suwałki, and to contemporary earthen constructions in the region.

Artykuł jest próbą przybliżenia wizji architektury R.B. Fullera określonej przez Autora jako architektura efemeryczna. W pracy zaprezentowano rozwój wybranych poglądów filozoficznych Fullera i wypływających z nich dokonań zawodowych, przedstawionych na wybranych przykładach zrealizowanych obiektów oraz projektów koncepcyjnych. Wybrano prace egzemplifikujące poglądy Fullera w zakresie projektowania zrównoważonego rozumianego jako dążenie do minimalizacji oddziaływań między elementami budynków oraz pomiędzy nimi a środowiskiem zewnętrznym, którego ideałem jest architektura konstruowana za pomocą niewidzialnych elementów. W dalszej części pracy przedstawiono przykłady instalacji lub przedmiotów wzornictwa użytkowego funkcjonujących dzięki niewidzialnym siłom elektromagnetycznym a następnie przedstawiono analizę możliwości skonstruowania „wieży magnetycznej” dla różnych wariantów usytuowania lub wielkości magnesów. Wyniki przedstawiono w postaci wykresów obrazujących możliwości wykonania takiej budowli.
The Paper is an attempt to present the vision of architecture by R.B. Fuller, described by the author as ephemeral architecture. This article presents the development of selected philosophical views of Fuller and the professional achievements resulting from them, presented on selected examples of completed objects and conceptual projects. Selected works that exemplify Fuller’s views on sustainable design understood as striving to minimize the interactions between building elements and between them and the external environment, the ideal of which is architecture constructed with the use of invisible forces. In the further part of the paper, examples of installations or utility design objects functioning thanks to invisible electromagnetic forces are presented, followed by an analysis of the possibility of constructing a “magnetic tower” for various variants of location or size of magnets. The results are presented in the form of charts showing the feasibility of such a structure.

Praca przedstawia analizę różnych rozwiązań konstrukcyjnych obwodów magnetycznych jako stojanów płaskiego impulsowego napędu liniowego. Zaproponowane zostały trzy konfiguracje obwodów magnetycznych. Każdy z obwo- dów magnetycznych charakteryzuje się czterema szczelinami powietrznymi, wewnątrz których znajdować się będą uzwojenia odpowiedzialne za przyspieszanie elementu napędzanego. Analiza poszczególnych obwodów magnetycznych została przeprowadzona na podstawie wyników symulacyjnych uzyskanych przy użyciu oprogramowania COMSOL Multiphysics, dla każdej z zaproponowanych konstrukcji. Zakres badań dotyczył rozkładu indukcji magnetycznej w otoczeniu każdej ze szczelin powietrznych. Otrzymane dane posłużą do opracowania konstrukcji wyrzutni magnetycznej mającej charakter płaskiego napędu liniowego.
This paper presents the analysis of different constructional solutions of the magnetic circuit which can be used as a stator of a flat linear impulse drive. The three configurations of magnetic circuits were considered. Each of magnetic circuits has four air gaps inside which the acceleration of windings of a driven element is possible. The analysis of each constructions of magnetic circuits were made by comparison of simulation results which were obtained by using the COMSOL Multiphysics software. The scope of works included the analysis of the magnetic flux density in the neighbourhood of each air gaps. The obtained data will be used to get the design concept of the magnetic launcher having the character of a flat linear motor.

Opis:
Decisions taken both in the design process of buildings and their modernization should comply with basic requirements, such as: strength and stability, resistance to dampness and water, resistance to fire, heat insulation, sound insulation, durability, comforts and conveniences. Building materials should not have harmful effects on human health. In their production, factors that destroy the natural environment (e.g. freons that destroy the ozone layer in the atmosphere) should not be used. The aspects of utilization, safe storage and recycling possibilities are also important. Another criterion for choosing material solutions is their availability as well as local traditions. However, the deciding factor is usually the economic aspect (costs of materials, construction and assembly).
