Opis:
Neidhart type suspension units composed of metal-elastomer torsion springs can be a good alternative to steel helical springs in applications such as vibration absorbers or vehicle suspension systems. Assembling this type of spring requires initial preload of the elastomeric working elements, which determines their operating properties. The results of experimental tests and numerical simulations concerning the preload of elastomeric working elements in Neidhart type suspension units are presented in the paper. The performed research made it possible to propose a new calculation model for determining the preload force value acting on the elastomeric cylindrical elements applied in this type of suspension unit. The results obtained using the proposed model exhibit good convergence with FEM simulation results within the range of the tested geometrical and material properties.

Opis:
A review of papers that investigate the static and dynamic coupled buckling and post-buckling behaviour of thin-walled structures is carried out. The problem of static coupled buckling is sufficiently well-recognized. The analysis of dynamic interactive buckling is limited in practice to columns, single plates and shells. The applications of finite element method (FEM) or/and analytical-numerical method (ANM) to solve interaction buckling problems are on-going. In Poland, the team of scientists from the Department of Strength of Materials, Lodz University of Technology and co-workers developed the analytical-numerical method. This method allows to determine static buckling stresses, natural frequencies, coefficients of the equation describing the post-buckling equilibrium path and dynamic response of the plate structure subjected to compression load and/or bending moment. Using the dynamic buckling criteria, it is possible to determine the dynamic critical load. They presented a lot of interesting results for problems of the static and dynamic coupled buckling of thin-walled plate structures with complex shapes of cross-sections, including an interaction of component plates. The most important advantage of presented analytical-numerical method is that it enables to describe all buckling modes and the post-buckling behaviours of thin-walled columns made of different materials. Thin isotropic, orthotropic or laminate structures were considered.

Opis:
In this paper the local and distortional buckling analyses of axially loaded cold-rolled channel and sigma profiles were performed. The critical buckling load was computed by solving the linear eigenvalue problem for different numerical models using Finite Element Method and simplified formulas implemented in Eurocode and proposed by Hancock and Schafer. The buckling analyses were conducted to prove that the sigma cross-section can be successfully replaced by channel cross-section with additional elastic supports placed in folds of the web. It was demonstrated that the folds in the web of the sigma cross-section (additional elastic supports) reduce the slenderness of the web. So, the critical distortional stress can be calculated based on analytical formulas derived for the channel crosssection taking into account the web height between the folds.
