Introduction/background: This paper presents a detailed review of causes and effects of the Enterprise risk management (ERM) implementation, including results of the author’s own survey research. Aim of the paper: The purpose of the paper is to analyse the benefits of ERM implementation while taking into account the importance of the incentives that motivate the decision to implement ERM within enterprises. Materials and methods: On the basis of a detailed literature review and taking the results of author’s own survey research into account, an analysis of the causes and effects of ERM implementation is presented. Particular attention is paid to cases where enterprises implement ERM mainly due to stakeholder expectations. Results and conclusions: The described benefits related to the use of ERM are an important reason for the implementation of these systems in enterprises; the benefits exceed the financial costs related to the implementation and use of a risk management system. However, in many cases, the decision to implement ERM is also influenced by external factors. The influence of the organisation's environment on the decision to implement ERM is a positive phenomenon, but the willingness to meet stakeholder requirements should not be the only motivation for implementing ERM. In order to implement an effective risk management system, enterprises should implement such systems deliberately with the primary aim of achieving actual benefits, not just meeting the expectations of those within its environment.

Zignorowanie ryzyka wiąże się z wszelkimi konsekwencjami działania przypadkowego. Wydaje się, że zarządzanie wartością w wielu firmach prowadziło do niepowodzenia, gdyż przebiegało na gruncie pomijania znaczenia ryzyka i jego związkach z oczekiwaną stopą zwrotu. Pierwsza część artykułu omawia istotę ryzyka w procesach podejmowania decyzji w przedsiębiorstwach działających w sieci międzyorganizacyjnej. Drugą poświęcono refleksjom nad najistotniejszymi różnicami między zarządzaniem ryzykiem w podmiotach silnie bądź słabo usieciowionych.
The risk ignorance relates with all consequences of incidentally acting. As it is expected, value based management has been ended with failure, because of the significance risk management missing out. This article consists of two parts. First of them covers the nature of risk of decisions undertaken by firm functioning in interorganizational network. The second part is devoted to reflections on most important differences between risk management in strong or weak networked enterprise.

W warunkach wzrastającej konkurencji i zmienności otoczenia zarządzanie ryzykiem jest jednym z kluczowych zadań realizowanych w przedsiębiorstwie. Z uwagi na pogłębiającą się specjalizację i złożoność procesów produkcyjnych zarządzanie ryzykiem coraz częściej analizuje się w kontekście branżowym. Nie zawsze jest to jednak podejście wystarczająco szczegółowe, dlatego też głównym celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie współczesnych trendów w zakresie zarządzania ryzykiem z perspektywy cyklu życia produktu. Takie ujęcie umożliwia tworzenie indywidualnych charakterystyk ryzyka dla danego produktu i dostosowanie adekwatnych narzędzi zarządczych do tak zidentyfikowanych źródeł ryzyka. Artykuł opracowano na podstawie krajowych i zagranicznych studiów literaturowych, obejmujących lata 2013-2016.
In the conditions of increasing competition and changing environment, risk management is one of key activities carried out in a company. Due to increasing specialization and complexity of production processes risk management is more often considered in a context of the industry. However, this approach is not always detailed enough, therefore, the main objective of the paper is to present the contemporary trends concerning risk management from the perspective of product lifecycle. Such depiction allows creating the individual risk characteristics for the particular product and adjust the adequate management instruments for risk sources identified in this way. The paper was developed on the basis of domestic and foreign literature review encompassing the years 2013-2016.

Purpose: The main purpose of the paper is to identify the gap between the risks indicated by managers at the beginning of the pandemic and some selected actual challenges. Design/methodology/approach: The text includes both a literature review and the authors’ own study consisting of two parts. The first one deals directly with how companies manage risk. The study used a descriptive form that was completed by managers in the first half of 2020. The second part of the study was conducted using the CAWI method and concerned the evaluation of remote working from the perspective of employees. The particular value of combining these surveys is the possibility to compare risk management with the actual risk. External reports were also used to comment on the results. Findings: Research findings concerning the risks identified at the beginning of the pandemic and the attempt to assess them through the prism of the opinions of employees who worked under pandemic conditions indicate that technology will be an important aspect of many components of the HR function in the future. Thus, it can be accepted that the technological aspect (including the increasing use of IT at work) should be more widely taken into account by employers in the HR risk management methodologies. It is useful to carry out ex-post analysis in risk management methodologies in order to improve the methods of risk identification. Research limitations/implications: The research results presented and the statements put forward are certainly subject to limitations. As mentioned earlier, many of the indications are region- or sector-specific, and a detailed assessment of risk management must be carried out using case study methods. The conclusions arrived at should therefore be treated in a directional manner. However, this does not change the fact that the pandemic itself is certainly a regional as well as a universal issue and poses similar challenges to all. Practical implications: Pointing to the application aspect of the study results, it is worth noting that COVID-19 effects or market changes are conducive to the creation of new standards in the field of human resources risk and the promotion of sustainable use of human capital. The research methodology can be used to analyse the phenomenon of HR risk in organisations, and the research results can be a valuable contribution to building the mentioned standards in organisations. Social implications: Work on new types of risk should also have a positive impact on human capital construction. Further advances in knowledge in this area will be particularly important as it is estimated that the challenges of work organisation (including remote working) in times of pandemic will stay for long time. Originality/value: This paper addresses the issue of HR risk management in the face of the pandemic and the development of remote working. The research problem being identified is whether the pandemic situation gives rise to new areas of HR risk and whether the experiences of this period should influence the way risk is managed in the future.

Zarządzanie ryzykiem portfela projektów jest obecnie przedmiotem zainteresowania badaczy, jak również praktyków. Wymaga holistycznego spojrzenia oraz odpowiednich kompetencji. Niniejszy artykuł jest próbą opracowania rankingów ryzyka dla hipotetycznego portfela projektów. Przeprowadzane prace badawcze zmierzały do opracowania rankingów, w ramach dwóch zmiennych, którymi było prawdopodobieństwo wystąpienia ryzyka oraz wpływ ryzyka na cele portfela. Zastosowaną procedurą statystyczną był test Friedmana.
Project portfolio risk management is currently of interest to both researchers and practitioners. It requires a holistic view as well as appropriate competencies. This paper focuses on risk ranks calculations for the project portfolio. Empirical investigation was focused on risk rankings development within the framework of two variables, i.e. risk likelihood and risk impact on the portfolio objectives. As a statistical procedure, Friedman repeated measures analysis of variance by ranks, has been applied.

This study assesses the operational safety and security of a category one airport in Nigeria, using the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja (NAIA) as the case study airport. Data were sourced using structured questionnaire and oral interviews. A total of 180 questionnaires were administered and 165 questionnaires were retrieved, amounting to a 91.7% rate of response. The structured questionnaire used aimed at identifying various safety and security parameters in the study area. This study examined the trend of the effectiveness of safety and security variable in airport operations, safety and employee’s attitude towards safety risk management using the Multicriteria Decision Analysis model to achieve this objective. The results show the weighty level, satisfaction index and effective index of the safety and security parameters used in the analysis with their score and effective index graph. Recommendation on how to improve the airport safety operations were made following policy implication on how to improve the safety management system of the airport.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to propose risk management recommendations for social projects taking into account their specificities by analysing and evaluating the ways in which social project risks are managed in the literature and applied in practice. Design/methodology/approach: Both literature and empirical research have been used to provide an analysis of how risks of social projects are managed. The literature research, consisting of a literature review, will be contrasted with the results of the qualitative research carried out in the form of a single embedded case study. The result is a proposal in the field of project risk management for social projects. Findings: An analysis of the way in which social project risks are managed has made it possible to identify the interdependencies that exist in this area and to identify areas of social project risk management that are particularly in need of improvement. Research limitations/implications: The research is worth continuing by increasing the number of social project investigated in order to gain a broader perspective related to the risk management of social projects and to improve the proposed recommendations. Practical implications: The research led to the development of a diagram of the steps needed to be taken in social project risk management and how to automate it through the creation of a prototype project risk management tool. Social implications: The main aim of social projects is to achieve social change. This can take the form of creating new opportunities and spaces, resolving situations that hinder well-being and social development, as well as raising awareness and bringing about changes in the way society thinks. A prerequisite for the fulfilment of these objectives is the success of the project achieved through its correct implementation across all elements. One of these elements is effective and efficient risk management. Originality/value: The article expands on the number of studies related to social project risk management and draws attention to the very limited amount of literature slanting on this topic. In addition, it presents its own solutions for social project risk management.

Planowanie projektu to nie tylko określenie czynności, które należy wykonać i ich ustrukturyzowanie, ale również identyfikacja czynników ryzyka, mogących mieć wpływ na przebieg projektu. W artykule omówiono procesy zarządzania ryzykiem w ramach metodyk tradycyjnych (klasycznych) oraz zwinnych (agile) w zarządzaniu projektami, zarówno w podejściu lekkim, jak i twardym. Ponadto przedstawiono rekomendacje dalszych badań, dotyczących opracowania odpowiednich procesów zarządzania ryzykiem dla projektów zarządzanych zwinnie.
Project planning is not only to determine the activities which have to be performed and structurized, but also to identify risk factors that may have an impact on progress of the project. The article discusses the risk management processes in project management methods within the traditional and agile, both in the approach of light and space. Furthermore recommendations for further studies on the development of appropriate risk management processes for projects managed agile are given.

Water transport could be the backbone of the future European combined transport system. The development of the cargo transport in river traffic depends directly on technical-exploitative characteristics of the network of inland waterways. Research of navigational abilities of inland waterways always comes before building ships or making a transport schedule. It is known that the size of the vessel’s draught (T) is usually the limiting value in project tasks and it depend on the depth of the waterway or certain ports condition. This is the reason why navigation characteristics of rivers have to be determined as precise as possible, especially from the aspect of determination of the possible draught of vessels. Unfortunately, risks in water transport are perhaps an under researched area and consequently, this article outlines a rationale, why it is necessary to develop competence about risk in water transport. Climate changes require special attention and global monitoring. Current risk assessment methods for water transport just consider some dramatic events. We present a new method for the assessment of risk and vulnerability of water transport where river depth represents a crucial part. The analysis of water level changes in the middle Danube was done during the last sixty years.
Transport wodny może być kręgosłupem przyszłości połączonego transportu europejskiego. Wynalezienie transportu towarowego w ruchu rzecznym zależy głównie od techniczno-eksploatacyjnego charakteru sieci śródlądowych dróg wodnych. Badanie nawigacyjnych możliwości śródlądowych dróg wodnych następuje zawsze przed budową statków lub przed wykonywaniem schematu transportu. Wiadomo, że rozmiar projektu statku (T) jest zwykle ograniczony wartością w projekcie i zależy on od głębokości drogi wodnej oraz od rzeczywistej kondycji portów. Jest to powodem tego, że charakterystyki nawigacyjne rzek muszą być określone tak precyzyjnie, jak to tylko możliwe, zwłaszcza w aspekcie tworzenia projektu statków. Niestety, ryzyko wodnego transportu stanowi przestrzeń prac badawczych i ten artykuł konsekwentnie zarysowuje racjonale uzasadnienie, dlaczego należy rozwijać znajomość ryzyka transportu wodnego. Zmiany klimatu wymagają specjalnej uwagi oraz globalnych obserwacji. Bieżące metody szacowania ryzyka dla transportu wodnego zawierają pewne dramatyczne elementy. My prezentujemy nową metodę szacowania ryzyka i słaby punkt transportu wodnego, w którym głębokość rzeki stanowi istotny element. Analizy zmian poziomu wody na środkowym Dunaju zostały przeprowadzone w ciągu ostatnich 60 lat.

Opracowanie związane jest z zarządzaniem ryzykiem w analizie wykonalności nowych projektów. Założeniem artykułu jest zaproponowanie koopetycji w celu minimalizacji ryzyka. Podczas badań 219 przedsięwzięć zanotowano 74% projektów zakończonych niezgodnie z wymaganiami, czego powodem były ograniczenia w zasobach ludzkich, technologii i procesach. Przedsiębiorstwa podejmują się realizacji projektów pomimo danych ograniczeń, które znacząco zwiększają poziom ryzyka. Jedną z proponowanych na tym etapie alternatyw jest koopetycja, jako współpraca i konkurowanie w tym samym czasie z jednostkami zewnętrznymi. Efektem danej współpracy było m.in. obniżenie bardzo wysokiego poziomu ryzyka przekroczenia terminów w 40 projektach o 45%. Koopetycja jest ryzykowną grą, jednocześnie zapewnia dodatkowe zasoby, wsparcie i zmniejsza możliwość wystąpienia zagrożeń.
The elaboration is related to the risk management in the feasibility study of the new projects. The article aim is to propose the coopetition as a purpose of minimizing the risk. During the study of 219 projects, recorded that 74% of them had not been finished in accordance with requirements, and the reasons there were human resources, technology and processes limitations. Companies undertake to perform projects despite the limitations mentioned above, which significantly increase the level of the risk. One of the proposed alternatives on this stage is coopetition, as a cooperation and competing at the same time with outside units. The result of such collaboration was, among others, reducing the very high risk level of exceeding deadlines in 40 projects by 45%. Coopetition is a risky game, on the other hand it provides resources, support and it minimize the possibility of potential threats.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is a general attempt to structure concepts of risk management in enterprises deriving economic benefits in form of a network rent. The aim will be achieved through analysis of the literature on the subject and observation of directions of change in modern economy. Based on the above, the selected concepts of risk management in network enterprises were defined against the response of enterprises to risk: increase of reactivity, calculation and acceptance.
Celem artykułu jest próba ogólnego uporządkowania koncepcji zarządzania ryzykiem w przedsiębiorstwach pozyskujących korzyści ekonomiczne w formie renty sieciowej. Realizacja tego zadania opiera się na analizie literatury przedmiotu i obserwacji kierunków przeobrażeń współczesnej gospodarki. Na tej podstawie wybrane koncepcje zarządzania ryzykiem w przedsiębiorstwach usieciowionych zdefiniowano względem reakcji przedsiębiorstw na ryzyko: zwiększanie reaktywności, kalkulacji i akceptacji.

Opis:
The primary goal of this article is to characterize selected issues relating to the functioning and implementing integrated risk management based on the ERM (enterprise risk management) approach in the public finance sector units on the example of the tax offices. The integrated risk management in the organization, including public sector institutions is based on a mature approach to risk management, namely enterprise risk management (ERM).
Podstawowym celem artykułu jest charakterystyka wybranych obszarów i zagadnień dotyczących funkcjonowania oraz implementacji podejścia zintegrowanego zarządzania ryzykiem (opierającego się na koncepcji ERM, enterprises risk management) w jednostkach sektora finansów publicznych na przykładzie urzędów skarbowych. Właśnie zintegrowane zarządzanie ryzykiem w organizacji, z włączeniem w to również jednostek sektora finansów publicznych, wykorzystuje takie podejście do zarządzania ryzykiem, które uznaje się za najbardziej dojrzałe procesowo, mianowicie podejście oparte na ERM.

Opis:
As changes do occur during project implementation, and each change is accompanied by uncertainty and the risk factor associated with it, undertaking risks in projects is inevitable. The aim of the study is to identify and analyze risk management products according to PRINCE2® methodology, determining effective risk management in projects. In the research, the following hypothesis has been adopted: achievement of the set project objectives depends on the effectiveness of risk management in the project as a factor determining the success of the investment implementation. The main hypothesis is verified in accordance with the research procedure, including literature research and case study. The results of the conducted research show that a correctly conducted process of risk management based on risk management products, is the sole foundation of effective project management.
