This article presents an approach to the verification of the safety integrity level (SIL) of rail vehicle subassemblies in accordance with the applicable railway standards PN-EN ISO 50126-1, PN-EN ISO 50126:2, and PN-EN ISO 50129. Particular attention has been given to the calculation procedure related to the determination of the tolerable hazard rate and tolerable functional failure rate indicators in a situation where various reliability indicators have been declared for components of rail vehicles, such as MTTFD or B10D. In this case, the verification of the safety integrity level using the above mentioned railway standards may be difficult, and it becomes necessary to use additional standards for safety systems based on electronic components. An example is the PN-EN ISO 13849-1:2006-01 standard, which contains a calculation method based on the transformation of the exponential model, which is useful for hazard and risk analyses of electronic systems containing components with different reliability indices. Another supplementary standard is the PN-EN 61025:2007 standard, which concerns fault tree analysis. Based on the above-mentioned standards, an algorithm was developed to verify the safety integrity level of the frequency converter control system. The obtained results allowed us to confirm the fulfillment of the functional safety requirements of the considered system.

This article deals with the problem of new threats that appear in areas that have not been affected by them so far. The considerations concern asymmetric threats and the railway system. The analysis of this issue was carried out on the basis of general information on the problem of asymmetric threats and the knowledge of the railway system, its operation and identified threats that can be attributed to the characteristics of asymmetric threats. The aim of the article is to draw attention to new phenomena that are beginning to affect transport on a global basis, including rail transport.

This paper addresses an application of the specific methods of multi-criteria decision analysis to specify the appropriate supplier of an autonomous train in a certain production–distribution company. This company identifies three potential suppliers dealing with the development and purchase of autonomous train systems. In terms of the multi-criteria decision analysis, the WSA method, the Scoring method and the TOPSIS method were used to define a suitable compromise solution. To apply each method, individual suppliers were sorted depending on the appropriateness for the examined company based on relevance with all the identified criteria and their weights. The evaluation criteria include procurement cost, time of the whole autonomous train system project implementation, references from plants where such a technology has already been introduced, service department availability and battery charge time. Thereafter, the outcomes obtained using individual methods were compared to each other and the compromise supplier of the autonomous train system to be implemented in the selected company was determined.

The railway transport of goods was in past the most used type of transport. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the performance of this mode of transport was reduced. At present, international trade is expanding in the direction of Asia–Europe. For economic and, above all, ecological reasons, it is appropriate to move the transport operations back to rail transport. The article focuses on progressive systems of railway transport of freight in the East–West direction, namely the use of the CargoBeamer system. CargoBeamer system (hereinafter referred to as CB) is an innovative technology for the transport of road semi-trailers and containers CBoXX specially designed for the CB system. The main advantage of this system is to support the transport standard road semitrailers, which will be implemented in 70% of shipments in road transport in the EU. The CB system is largely automated, especially for horizontal loading and unloading or when changing the gauge. The CB system allows to lower the shipment time significantly, thanks to automatisation of loading and unloading processes and gauge change. This research analyses the competitive advantages of road and rail transport through the example of Ukraine transportation market. Spheres of efficient usage of rail and road transport while transporting perishable goods have been studied. The key factors influencing the mode choice, as well as the kinds of cargo that depend on the mode choice have been determined with the help of revealed preference data. A mathematical model of mode choice has been offered. The criterion of the effectiveness of this model is the economical profit of the logistics system ‘shipper – carrier – receiver’. The advantage of using the suggested model is the possibility of calculating invisible costs while evaluating alternative transport mode, including funds immobilization and cargo loss. The tools in the study are the methods of system analysis, mathematical modelling, regression analysis and expert evaluations. The acquired results can be used while justifying the mode choice and determining the spheres of efficient usage of various modes of transport. It has been determined that the factor for using the rail is the distance longer than 600 km, as the economical profit of the logistics system is higher in this case. At the same time, with distances shorter than 600 km, road transportation is a better choice.

Actuality of problem in the improvement of transport safety at level crossings (LC) is caused by increasing the number of vehicles and reducing discipline of vehicle drivers. One of ways for solution of this problem is associated with using the video surveillance systems for monitoring danger area of level crossing. In such systems due to the limited bandwidth of data channel usually the image compression techniques are used. In this paper the pre-processing method for compression of images is presented. Proposed method accounts unequal subjective informational content of different LC image regions (using fuzzy logic and wavelet transform). Comparison of this method with plain set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) technique showed that proposed method allows obtaining better result at image compression in terms of reconstruction quality and compression ratio.
Актуальность проблемы повышения безопасности движения на железнодорожных переездах обусловлена увеличением количества автотранспортных средств и снижением дисциплины водителей. Одно из направлений для решения данной проблемы связано с использованием систем видеонаблюдения для мониторинга опасной зоны переезда. С учетом ограниченной полосы пропускания канала передачи данных в таких системах обычно применяется сжатие изображений. В данной работе представлен метод предварительной обработки для сжатия изображений. Предложенный метод учитывает неодинаковое субъективное информационное заполнение различных участков изображения переезда (используя нечеткую логику и вейвлет преобразование). Сравнение данного метода с простым методом пространственно упорядоченных иерархических деревьев (SPIHT) показало, что предложенный метод позволяет получить лучший результат при сжатии изображения с точки зрения качества восстановления и степени сжатия.

The paper discusses the North Sea – Mediterranean corridor, part of the Trans-European transport network. A brief discussion on the aspects of multimodality and the possible modes of transport involved in transporting inland freight is presented followed by an introduction to main IT systems that can be implemented to increase the efficiency of freight transport. Presented also is a description on the envisaged investments in freight corridors in Europe. An assessment of information flows is also offered. The study concludes that the concept of a freight corridor should be extended to a network in order for more global benefits to be experienced.
Artykuł omawia część transeuropejskiej sieci transportowej jakim jest Korytarz Morze Północne - Morze Śródziemnomorskie. Jest to krótka dyskusja na temat aspektów multimodalności i możliwych środków transportu zaangażowanych w przewóz śródlądowy, a następnie wprowadzenie do głównych systemów informatycznych, które mogą być wdrożone w celu zwiększenia wydajności transportu towarowego. Artykuł przedstawia również informacje o planowanych inwestycjach w korytarzach transportu towarowego w Europie. Badanie potwierdza, że należy rozwijać koncepcję sieci korytarzy towarowych w celu doświadczenia większych korzyści.

Traffic is the most widespread source of environmental noise. Railway noise has become increasingly common in urban areas in the past few decades. Therefore environmental requirements for railway operations regarding noise are becoming very strict and will become even tighter in future. In the present paper we present actual track-based field test performed on Slovenian Railways. The significant noise reduction (up to 30dBA) was achieved by the application of CHFC material on the rail using CL-E1 top anti noise system.
Der Verkehr ist die am weitesten verbreitete Quelle von Umgebungslärm. Eisenbahnlärm nahm in den letzten Jahrzehnten in städtischen Gebieten immer mehr zu. Aus diesem Grund wurden die Umweltanforderungen für den Bahnverkehr bezüglich des Lärms immer strenger und werden in der Zukunft noch höher. In der vorliegenden Arbeit stellen wir den tatsächlichen Track-basierten Feldversuch auf der Slowenischen Bahn dar. Die deutliche Lärmreduzierung (bis 30 dBA)wurde durch die Anwendung von CHFC-Material auf der Schiene mithilfe des Cl-E1 Antirauschsystems erreicht.

In contrast to traditional systems for monitoring fault of the running gear of the rolling stock, this paper proposes a technology of noise control at the onset of defects. The authors consider the possibility of creating an intelligent system that can perform noise diagnostics with the indication of the beginning of the latent period of the initiation of typical defects preceding faults. To this end, using the noise technology, sets of reference informative attributes are created in the training process. The reference sets, in turn, are used to determine the condition of the object at the beginning of the development of defects by comparing them with current noise estimates. It also allows controlling the dynamics of the development of defects.

The paper considers some theoretical and practical problems associated with the use of traction motor are operating in the generator mode (in braking). Mathematical and graphical relationships of electrodynamic braking, taking into account the requirements raised to braking systems in rail transport are presented. The latter include discontinuity of braking process, braking force regulation, depending on the locomotive speed, mass, type of railway and other parameters. Schematic diagrams of the locomotive braking and ways of controlling the braking force by varying electric circuit parameters are presented. The authors suggested contact-free regulation method of braking resistor for controlling braking force in rheostatic braking, and resistor parameters regulate with pulse regulation mode by semiconductor devices, such as new electrical components for rolling stock - IGBT transistors operating in the key mode. Presenting energy savings power systems, which are using regenerative braking-returning energy and diesel engine or any form of hybrid traction vehicles systems, circuit diagrams, electrical parameters curves.
