Opis:
Ballast layer is the most weak element of railway track that causes track geometry deterioration. At the same time, it is subjected to intensive particle breakage during the corrective tamping. This causes high maintenance costs of ballasted track. The present paper is devoted to the study of tamping methods. The present machine tamping methods are considered and compared. The possible influence of the tamping technology on the ballast-related maintenance costs is analyzed. The side tamping technology is studied in detail with theoretical and experimental methods. The process of material transport during the side tamping is studied using a scale model of ballast layer and photogrammetric measurements. A theoretical finite element model (FEM) is validated to the experimental results. The study shows that the side tamping is a promising method for the development of a universal, superstructure independent tamping technology.

Opis:
A number of physical methods are used to survey railway track ballast to assess its degradation as a function of deposition. Simulation tests on track models are also conducted. These testing methods, which are generally labour-intensive and expensive, provide an accurate understanding of the extent of ballast degradation. However, the impact of inadequate maintenance can be observed, even on the surface. Therefore, it seems natural in this case to use image registration. State-of-the-art machine vision systems of track geometry cars provide the means to do this. Obtained ballast images provide a baseline for evaluating its level in relation to sleepers. However, no information is available on other signs of track degradation, such as overgrown vegetation (weeds) or the so-called local muddy areas, which are generally a consequence of poor drainage and a lack of subgrade insulation. These degradations are observed to generate distinctive colour images that are superimposed on the overall image of the ballast surface. They differ in colour and shape. Hence, the authors used this phenomenon to develop an algorithm for the extraction of ballast degradation images based on RGB imaging. Surface descriptors have also been offered to assess these degradations. Extensive measurement material from the railway lines was used to conduct survey experiments based on the examples. The results clearly demonstrate the high success rate of the applied method.

Opis:
In the course of work a new vibrating compactor with single-direction inertial forces according to the authors’ innovative license is applied. Examination of possible dependence on substantiation of the new vibrating device parameters is shown. The new single-direction vibrating device for road crushed rock compaction allows decreasing vibration to the machine frame and increasing its working capacity. The new vibrating device’s efficiency to 11,7% increases the existing ones.

Opis:
Mechanical models of “railroad car-track” transport system for each phase of motion are developed. Particularities of dynamic interaction between the four-axle car and the track are studied by considering four phases of motion over joint irregularity. Methods for solving differential equations of the discrete-continuous system fluctuation are developed. Numerical analysis is used to determine deflections of the trailing rail under the first sleeper for each phase of motion depending on motion phases, and car load and speed.

Mechanical models of a transport system “carriage - track” while crossing a joint irregularity are proposed. An investigation was conducted on the peculiarities of static, shock and dynamic interaction between the four-axle car and the track, considering tram wheelsets motion features over joint irregularity. A method to solve the equations of a mathematical model of static, shock and dynamic interaction is developed. Numerical analysis is used to determine deflections of the facing rail under the first sleeper for each phase of motion depending on motion phases, and car load and speed.
