    Introduction/background: This article presents the functioning of a production company in the construction chemicals industry. Based on the literature research, the following thesis was formulated: the use of tools to improve logistics processes significantly improves and increases the efficiency of production processes in the analysed enterprise. In the article, the following issues were indicated: analysing the course of logistics and production processes in the analysed enterprise, developing a map of the production implementation process and the products on Line retooling process, analysing the possibilities of implementing tools to improve logistics and production processes and developing recommendations for the enterprise. Aim of the paper: The main purpose of the study is to identify irregularities in the implementation of logistic processes in the examined enterprise and to propose improvement measures. Materials and methods: In the research part, the authors proposed Lean Production improvement tools (SMED, TPM) to optimize logistics processes and production. Results and conclusions: The work created by the authors is a research article that includes a full analysis of the production and logistics processes of a company from the construction industry. The paper presents irregularities occurring during logistics and production processes, and proposes improvements. The authors argue that it is important to introduce the proposed improvements to optimize logistics processes and production, and that they are possible to implement in other manufacturing companies.

    The publication presents the statistics on steel market in Poland. The structure of the work consists of two parts, the first of which is a description of the steel market and changes in steel production and employment in the years 1990-2014, the second is a prognostic modeling of production and employment by 2020. The analysis can be the basis for strategic planning in metallurgical enterprises.

    The development of new production systems during the fourth industrial revolution is called Industry 4.0. Production in industry 4.0 is carried out by industrial robots with intelligence computers using the Internet to control and communicate devices and man with devices and to integrate all processes inside and outside the enterprise within the supply chain using all possible technical solutions to connect the virtual world and the real world. Particular branches of industry in the world invest in new technology. New technology is implemented in the metallurgical industry, too. Managers in enterprises in the steel industry want to know how trends in steel production will be in the future. The key aim of this publication is to present forecasts of steel production quantities in the world until 2022.

    Rozwój koncepcji Przemysł 4.0, podyktowany potrzebą odwrócenia trendu spadku produkcji przemysłowej europejskich przedsiębiorstw, zmusza współczesne przedsiębiorstwa, szczególnie sektora MŚP, do szybkiego i elastycznego dostosowania się do zmieniających się warunków popytowych oraz redukcji kosztów wytwarzania oraz poszukiwania nowych rozwiązań biznesowych. W ramach proponowanej koncepcji Przemysł 4.0 następuje ścisłe połączenie obiektów fizycznych z siecią informacyjną. Powstają wyrafinowane sieci przedsiębiorstw, połączonych inteligentnymi zasobami, komunikującymi się za pośrednictwem Internetu. Funkcjonowanie małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw w sieciach produkcyjnych daje dziś wiele dodatkowych możliwości rozwoju, choć jednocześnie rodzi pewne obawy i wymaga rozwiązania wielu problemów. Celem artykułu jest analiza warunków rozwoju sieci produkcyjnych polskich małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw zdolnych do funkcjonowania w ramach koncepcji Przemysł 4.0 oraz zaproponowano model ich integracji.
    Development of the concept Industry 4.0, dictated by the need to reverse the trend of decline in industrial production of European enterprises, forces modern enterprises, especially the SME sector, to adapt quickly and flexibly to changing demand conditions and to reduce production costs and search for new business solutions. As part of the proposed Industry 4.0 concept, there is a close connection between physical objects and the information network. Sophisticated enterprise networks are created, connected by intelligent resources, communicating over the Internet. The functioning of small and medium-sized enterprises in production networks today gives many additional development opportunities, although at the same time it raises some concerns and requires solving many problems. The main goal of the article is to analyze the conditions for the development of production networks of Polish small and medium enterprises able to function as a part of the Industry 4.0 concept and a model for their integration has been proposed.

    W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono wybrane rezultaty badań analitycznych nad oceną możliwości obniżania jednostkowego kosztu produkcji w przedsiębiorstwie górniczym poprzez wydłużenie czasu pracy zakładu górniczego z uwzględnieniem stopnia wykorzystania jego zdolności produkcyjnej. Analizie poddano dwa warianty funkcjonowania zakładu górniczego. Pierwszy wariant dotyczy rocznego czasu pracy zakładu górniczego przez pięć dni w tygodniu, drugi wydłużonego czasu pracy do sześciu dni w tygodniu przy obowiązującym pięciodniowym tygodniu pracy załóg górniczych. Przedstawiono i poddano analizie wyniki obliczeń możliwej redukcji jednostkowego kosztu produkcji przy wzroście stopnia wykorzystania zdolności produkcyjnej zakładu górniczego.
    Selected results of research on evaluation of possibilities to reduce the unit cost of production in a mining company are presented. Two variants of annual working time of a mine are taken into account. The first variant refers to five days working time a week, the second one refers to six days working time a week when the sixth day (Saturday) is additionally paid. Appropriate calculations are presented and analyzed in an aspect of reduction of unit cost of production as a result of increasing utilization of the mine capacity.

    Purpose: The publication contains an analysis of steel production and consumption of steel in the national economy in the period from 2000 to 2018. Design/methodology/approach: The analysis is divided into three parts of the realized research. The first part is about trends of steel production; the second analysis is about average steel consumption; while the last part is about the influence of the volume of steel imports on the level of domestic consumption of steel. Assessed quantities of steel production and steel consumption are compared with basic macroeconomic indicators in Poland. Findings: The average annual dynamics of basic macroeconomic indicators in Poland from 2000 to 2018 were as follows: the largest decrease in the amount of steel produced and consumed in Poland was recorded in 2009, this was due to the effects of the global economic crisis; the average annual volume of steel production in Poland in the period from 2000 to 2018 was 9 million tonnes, in the same period, the average annual steel consumption in Poland was nearly 8.5 million tonnes, and the average annual steel import to Poland was 334 thousand tonnes; the average annual dynamics of the volume (quantity) of steel production in Poland in the period was almost +2% and was lower than the average annual dynamics of the amount of steel consumed in Poland by 0.2%; the average forecast of steel consumption in Poland in period from 2019 to 2023 will be 11.2 million tonnes. Originality/value: The result of the analysis can be used by market experts or managers to plan production in their enterprises.

    Praca składa się z części teoretycznej i praktycznej. Część teoretyczna, wykonana na podstawie literatury, stanowi przegląd poglądów na temat roli i miejsca analizy prognostyczno-scenariuszowej w zarządzaniu przedsiębiorstwem. Część praktyczna powstała na podstawie wykonanych prognoz wielkości produkcji stali w Polsce z wykorzystaniem modeli liniowych, nieliniowych, metod adaptacyjnych i autoregresyjnych. Uzyskane prognozy uporządkowano, budując scenariusz bazowy i scenariusze optymistyczny oraz pesymistyczny dla wielkości produkcji w krajowym przemyśle stalowym do 2020 roku.
    The publication consists of theory and practice. In first part (theory) key opinions about place and role of forecasts and scenarios in enterprise management are presented. The second party (practice) is based on predictions made using linear, nonlinear, adaptive and autoregressive models. The forecasts are structured into the following: base-case scenario, worst-case scenarios and best-case scenarios for steel production in Polish steel industry until 2020.

    Wraz z rozwojem przemysłu, a w szczególności tworzeniem inteligentnych fabryk zbudowanych z inteligentnych systemów cyberfizycznych pojawiło się określenie Przemysł 4.0 jako oznaczenie dla czwartej rewolucji przemysłowej. Siłami napędowymi czwartej rewolucji przemysłowej są infrastruktura IT i Internet, a jej podstawowy element stanowią dane, które należy przetworzyć i zagospodarować. Rozwój inteligentnych systemów produkcyjnych ukierunkowany jest na uzyskanie autonomii poprzez właściwości samokonfiguracji, samokontroli, samonaprawiania i samouczenia się maszyn w ciągu produkcyjnym. W wybranych branżach przemysłu w krajach wysoko rozwiniętych pojawiły się zakłady z nowymi rozwiązaniami organizacji produkcji, z użyciem cyberfizycznych systemów produkcyjnych, przemysłowego Internetu Rzeczy, produkcji opartej na chmurze komputerowej i danych, spersonalizowanych wyrobach i innych rozwiązaniach. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja i opis nowego słownictwa, które najczęściej pojawiają się w odniesieniu do Przemysłu 4.0.
    The development of industry and smart factories with cyber-physical systems caused that new term of industry appeared, the term was “Industry 4.0” as a sign for the fourth industrial revolution. The driving forces of the 4th industrial revolution are IT infrastructure and Internet with its basic elements that is data that needs to be processed and managed. The development of smart production is aimed at achieving autonomy through self-configuration, self-control, self-repairing and self-learning of machines using in the production process. In selected industrial sectors in highly-developed countries, there were new plants with new production organization solutions, using cyber-physical production systems, Industrial Internet of Things, cloud computing, Big Data, personalized products and other solutions. The aim of the article is to present and describe the new vocabulary that most often appear in relation to Industry 4.0.

    Purpose: The aim of the paper is to analyze the concept of sustainable engineering. Design/methodology/approach: Critical literature analysis. Analysis of international literature from main databases and polish literature and legal acts connecting with researched topic. Findings: The publication concentrate on problems connected with sustainable engineering. Especially there is a presentation of main principles of sustainable engineering. In the case of each principle there is an description of those topic with the approaches and the analysis of its importance in industrial organization. The sustainability is an very important concept which can be used in in Industry 4.0 implementation. We should mention that efficient engineering organization should know how to link the sustainability and Industry 4.0 concepts. This can bring the market advantage due to new technology implementation and sustainable production from business and environmental point of view. Originality/value: Detailed analysis of all subjects related to the problems connected with sustainable engineering principles.

    The paper presents the structure of the system supplier selection using case based reasoning method and expert system. Implementation of the proposed system can support designers, engineers, purchasing department, employees are preparing offers for customers.

    After three industrial revolutions, the fourth has come, transferring production to sophisticated networks of companies equipped with intelligent devices, machines, and means of transport, communicating with each other using modern technologies. It creates new challenges for industrial companies; it requires existing business models to be redefined. The development of the Industry 4.0 concept forces modern companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, to quickly and flexibly adapt to the changing demand conditions. This is reflected in the creation of new business models, ones that allow for the introduction of innovations, the rapid reorganization of processes, and very flexible adaptation of enterprises to the conditions of a changing environment. The aim of the article is to present the concept of a business model assuming the creation of a network of small and medium-sized enterprises that are able to generate added value for their clients in the era of Industry 4.0.
