Opis:
Travel time is a measure commonly used for traffic flow modelling and traffic control. It also helps to evaluate the quality of traffic control systems in urban areas. Traffic control systems that use traffic models to predict changes and disruptions in vehicle flows have to use vehicle speed-prediction models. Travel time estimation studies the effects of traffic volumes on a street section at an average speed. The TRISTAR Integrated Transport Management System, currently being deployed across the Tri-City (Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia), is almost completed and data obtained from the System can be useful for the development of prediction models. A procedure for travel speed model selection for the Tri-City street network is presented in this paper. Matching of chosen volume-delay functions to the data obtained from the TRISTAR has been tested. Analyses have shown insufficient matching of functions that does not justify the possibility of their use in traffic control due to variability in different conditions of traffic, weather and, in the case of an incident, which justifies the need for further research aimed at satisfying matching of functions depending on the above-mentioned factors.

Opis:
An original survey among ATV riders concerning the conditions in which they lost stability is conducted. The coordinates of the center of gravity of the ATV by riders with different Body Mass Indexes are determined. A simulation program on base mechanic-mathematical model to study the ATV’s motion is used. In this base the critical sideslip velocities and critical lateral overturn velocities of ATV at various riders’ Body Mass Index, curve radius and grip coefficients were calculated. The results show that riders’ Body Mass Index strongly affects critical velocities because of different coordinates of center of gravity.

The paper presents a method of tooth chipping diagnostics. The method based on the noncontact measure of torsional and transverse vibrations velocity of gear shaft. Recorded signals were analysed with the use of continuous wavelet transform.

W prezentowanej pracy zostały przedstawione i zinterpretowane rezultaty badań prototypu sprzęgła magnetoreologicznego (MR). Wyznaczone charakterystyki urządzenia ilustrują zależności momentu obrotowego sprzęgła MR od: wartości natężenia pola magnetycznego wywoływanego przez prąd płynący w uzwojeniu cewki, prędkości obrotowej wirnika urządzenia oraz temperatury cieczy MR, ulegającej nagrzewaniu w trakcie pracy. Badania zostały przeprowadzone na specjalnie skonstruowanym stanowisku badawczym. Przeprowadzono szczegółową analizę otrzymanych rezultatów badań.
This paper presents the complex results concerning the prototype clutch with magnetorheological (MR) fluid. The obtained characteristics depicts the dependencies between the clutch’s torque and: the intensity of the magnetic field induced by the coil current, as well as the rotational speed of the rotor, and the temperature of the fluid during exploitation. The research was conducted on the dedicated laboratory stand. The detailed analysis of the results is provided in the article.

The main purpose of this article is to present a possible description of kinematic characteristics concerning the direction of travel of a selected mobile working machine in motion, namely, a hinged loader. This description is presented in the form of equations, which define the circumferential velocity as well as the angular velocity of the vehicle wheels during a ride involving a curve. In this way, it is also possible to describe a function of the axle differential.

Driving speed is one of the most important factors in road safety, and speed not only affects the severity of a crash, but is also related to the risk of being involved in a crash. Inappropriate speed is responsible for more than a third of all fatal accidents occurring on the roads. In Poland, the problem of speeding drivers is widely common. Hence, effective speed management and enforcement of speed limits on existing road plays an important role. Possible solutions for rural roads are very limited and have focused mainly on administrative speed limitations and speed cameras enforcement. However, due to their limited effectiveness, new solutions are still being sought. High expectations are associated with the latest introduction of sectional speed system in Poland. The aim of this paper is to examine the efficiency of the sectional speed control system implemented on chosen sections of national roads in Podlaskie province. For this purpose, speed surveys included road segments where the system for sectional spede control had been already implemented, as well as in order to evaluate its effectiveness, speed measurements were conducted on other national roads with no further specific restrictions. In addition, to evaluate the possible influence of the sections monitored by the system on driver’s behaviour on adjacent segments, the relevant speed data was collected on adherent sectors. On the basis of the conducted measurements, high effectiveness of sectional speed control system was stated together with its impact on adjoining segments, but also some deficiency in terms of speed homogeneity has been revealed.

Vehicle onboard travel planning systems have been developed in recent years. Since the development of GPS-based devices equipped with digital mapping applications for many vehicles, route planning has become easier and more convenient for drivers. Although such systems are used by drivers, for delivery or courier companies, it is especially important to provide a high-quality service, which involves the timely delivery of goods. Traffic management authorities are also interested in acquiring data on road and traffic conditions to verify the effectiveness and smoothness of the flow of vehicles. This paper proposes a method for traffic data collection and an application for recording data of variable factors having impact on a vehicle speed in cities and agglomerations. Data acquisition and identification of factors having impact on reduction of vehicle speed in the cities has been presented for a case study of Gliwice. The results can be useful for traffic management authorities, municipal traffic, road planning departments and mobile apps designers.

Opis:
One of the factors influencing the level of traffic noise is the type of vehicles moving on the roads. The paper presents comprehensive research, as conducted by the authors, which sought to assess the traffic noise level generated by different means of transport. A comparison is made between the noise generated by personal cars, a truck and different types of motorcycle. The maximum sound level and the equivalent sound level emitted by the investigated means of transport were analysed in the entire frequency band and in the individual 1/3 octave bands. Based on the research, conclusions have been formulated regarding the influence of the different types of means of transport and their speeds on traffic noise near a road, along with possible ways to reduce its level.

Opis:
Different methods of calculating the saturation flow volume were examined. It was found that none of them considers the speed of vehicles passing through the intersection (intersection passing speed). For this reason we examined the effect including intersection passing speed has on the accuracy of assessing traffic conditions at intersections by including this parameter in tests run on VISSIM software. Our tests showed that accurately assessing the saturation flow volume depends on including intersection passing speed and the size of the intersection.
Рассмотрены методы расчета интенсивности потока насыщения и установлено, что они не учитывают скорости проезда перекрестка. Исходя из этого, предложено использовать скорость проезда перекрестка как обобщенный параметр условий движения на перекрестке, для чего в среде VISSIM проведены соответствующие исследования. Установлено, что интенсивность потока насыщения зависит от скорости проезда перекрестка и его длины.

This article investigates the impact of a passenger car on a tree, which resulted in the car body breaking apart. A side impact of the car on a tree at high driving speeds is not a standard test in the provisions of the applicable Directives of the European Economic Community, even though the impact poses a serious threat to the driver and the passengers. The threat comes from a deep impaction of the barrier into the body which damages the safety cage. For such impacts, it is very difficult for the vehicle speed to be reconstructed. In practice, expert witnesses and appraisers usually disregard the bodybreaking-apart-related energy due to a difficulty in establishing the data for such calculations, which leads to simplifications and speed underestimates. Performing the right simulation of such impacts with accident reconstruction programs without determining the adequate input data for calculations is also impossible to calculate. This paper presents a range of studies and calculations for such incidents and for identifying the input parameters for collision simulations. The approach presented in this article should be used by expert witnesses and researchers. Therefore, this paper provides insights into theory and practice.

This article presented the numeric computations of non-stationary heat flow in the form of distribution of temperature fields on characteristic surfaces of the piston for two different rotational speeds for the same engine load during 60 seconds during in which the engine worked. The object of research was a turbocharged Diesel engine with a direct fuel injection to the combustion chamber and the engine cubic capacity that is 2390 [cm3] and power rating, which is 85 [kW]. The numeric computations were carried out by the use of the finite element method (FEM) with the help of COSMOS/M software and the use of the two – zone combustion model.
W pracy przedstawiono obliczenia numeryczne niestacjonarnego przepływu ciepła w postaci rozkładu pól temperatury na charakterystycznych powierzchnia tłoka dla dwóch prędkości obrotowych silnika przy porównywalnym współczynniku nadmiaru powietrza w czasie 60 sekundowej jego pracy. Przedmiotem badań był doładowany silnik wysokoprężny z wtryskiem bezpośrednim o pojemności 2390 [cm3] i mocy znamionowej 85 [kW]. Obliczenia numeryczne zostały przeprowadzone przy zastosowaniu metody elementów skończonych (MES) za pomocą programu COSMOS/M oraz przy wykorzystaniu dwustrefowego modelu procesu spalania.
