Opis:
The railway transport in a maximum degree is conservative. For example, the design of wheelsets, practically, has not changed for the last 150 years. Such a long life was given to this tendency by its high reliability and simplicity of the design. It is considered, that the rigid connection of wheels by means of an axis provides a self-centering of wheelset within the limits of a cross backlash of a railway. The tread contact surfaces have a difficult profile. Researches of many scientists, dealing with the questions of interaction of wheels with rails, show that the classical approach to the wheelset design leads to many problems of the railway transport. Therefore, the authors of this article strived for deeper consideration of kinematics of a movement of vehicle by a railway.

The faulty running gear of rail vehicles can be identified by the results of measurements of vertical forces caused by wheel running surface damages or other wrongness of bogie suspension. Several different automatic diagnostic systems are used in European railways (operating while the trains are in service) to detect damage to rail-wheel running surfaces. The principles of this trackside equipment operation and the reliability of their measurements may differ noticeably. This is especially true in different seasons of the year (winter/summer). Data collection and aggregation results should be checked in equivalency (comparability). The authors compared the efficiency of different automatic systems in detecting wheel failures according to wheel-rail loads in different seasons of the year and presented their results. The authors also compared the similarity of results of the different measurement systems.

Nowadays, wayside measurement systems of wheel-rail contact forces have acquired great relevance for the monitoring of rolling stock, especially for freight trains. Thanks to these solutions, infrastructure managers can check and monitor the status of rolling stock and, when necessary, impose corrective actions for the railway companies. On the other hand, the evaluation of contact forces is part of the rolling stock authorisation process [1] and a mainstone for the study of the running stability. The data provided by these measurements could give useful information to correlate the wear of the track with the frequency of applied loads, helping in the development of a better maintenance strategy of railway networks [2]. In this paper, the monitoring of vertical forces is based on the SMCV (Vertical Loads Monitoring System) method, where shear strains of the rail web are measured with a simple combination of four electrical strain gauges, placed on both sides of the rail web along each span. The research has identified self-diagnosis methods for the SMCV system to ensure the reliability and the quality of the measurements and to extend the knowledge of the system. The recorded signals have been processed and converted into easily interpretable physical quantities by means of MATLAB® algorithm.

The stress-strain of thin multilayered coatings covered the surface of the rail is studied near the region of side contact in turning motion. The stress-strain state is studied for various geometric and mechanical coating parameters' values. A theoretical and a finite element models are developed. Stress-strain state analysis has been made based on models developed and recommendations were given for an optimal coating parameters' selection.

Opis:
The article describes the design of a system used for the improvement of the adhesion of locomotive wheels to rails; the principle of which is based on the electromagnetic feeding of the contact area with the bulk material that has magnetic properties and high hardness (iron scale Fe3O4 and magnetite FeO×Fe2O3). The experimental results of laboratory and bench tests confirming the effectiveness of the proposed system compared with the existing devices using quartz sand to improve the adhesion of wheels to rails are presented. It is concluded that the use of an electromagnetic system for improving the particle supply to the wheel/rail interface is promising.
