Pojęcie potencjału wywodzi się z fizyki, jednak ma zastosowanie także w naukach ekonomicznych. W ekonomii, ekonometrii przestrzennej, rozważa się, między innymi, potencjał ludności, dochodu, analizuje się intensywność oddziaływania jednostek terytorialnych danego systemu na siebie nawzajem. Wartość potencjału zależy od elementów macierzy odległości pomiędzy jednostkami. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie sposobu obliczania potencjału ekonomicznego jednostek terytorialnych oraz zastosowanie analizowanej metodyki do pomiaru potencjału ekonomicznego organizacji. Artykuł składa się z dwóch części zasadniczych; w pierwszej omówiono metodykę badań, druga część zawiera wyniki analiz empirycznych.
The idea of potential derives from physics, however, it is also applied in economic sciences. In economics, spatial econometrics, among others, considered is the population's potential, income potential and analyzed is the intensity of mutual influence of territorial units of a given system. The value of the potential is dependent on the matrix of the distance between units. The aim of the article is to present the way of calculating the economic potential of territorial units as well as the application of the analyzed methodology in the measurement of economic potential of organizations. The article consists of two basic parts; the first one discusses research methodology, the second part includes the results of empirical analyses.

Purpose: The objective of the paper is to assess the degree of influence of determinants from the environment and the internal environment of SMEs on the growth of their innovation potential (IP) and to verify the moderating effect of the cooperation with external actors and financial condition on the relationship between the influence of external and internal determinants on the innovation potential of the investigated enterprises during the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve the paper’s objective regression analysis has been applied. Findings: The paper presents the results of empirical research conducted among Polish SMEs during the pandemic period in 2021. The results reveal that financial condition constitutes a significant moderator of the relationship between determinants coming from the company's environment and their level of SME innovation potential. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that cooperation with entities responsible for helping to implement innovation significantly moderates the relationship between the influence of determinants coming from the internal environment of SMEs and their innovation potential. It has been also found, on the basis of a multivariate regression model, that among external determinants the strongest predictors of IP growth were socio-cultural and demographic factors, and among internal determinants: the quality management sphere and the financial sphere of the surveyed SMEs. Research limitations/implications: The main limitation of the conducted research is the impact of the pandemic conditions and also the location of the investigated SMEs in the region of the Lower Silesian Voivodship. Practical implications: The paper provides practical knowledge regarding the determinants of acting in the conditions related to a pandemic crisis. Originality/value: The paper provides new knowledge, analyses the external conditions and the internal environment of SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic in the region, which is known as one of the most innovative in Poland. The research is addressed to research scholars, business pretensioners and policy makers of innovative policy.

Purpose: The aim of the article is to show the modified method of calculating the economic potential on the example of territorial units of the Upper Silesian Metropolis. Design/methodology/approach: Economic potential is a measure of a region's strength compared to other regions. In economics, potential is a substitute for socio-economic development. The methodology of calculating the modified economic potential of territorial units was discussed in the first part of the article, and an empirical example is presented in the second part. Findings: As a result of the research, strong regions were identified and the self-potential of the regions and their surroundings were compared. Research limitations/implications: The proposed modified method of potentials can be used for a comparative analysis of any territorial units. The metric that is used to measure the distance between territorial units is important. Practical implications: On the basis of the presented method, any regions or countries can be compared in terms of socio-economic development. Social implications: The method makes it possible to compare the socio-economic development of regions in terms of income and population. Originality/value: The article compares selected communes of the Silesian Voivodeship in terms of income, population and socio-economic development. A modified measure of economic potential was used.

The Open Innovation is one of the practical concept of the innovation implementation in an environment of a contemporary organizations. The development of open and dynamic forms of systems network requires a new cognitive perspective for analysis of organizational social potential. The aim of this study is to draw attention to the need of social potential reorientation in the case open innovation paradigm. On the background of the proposed reorientation, the author attempts to identify the directions and key attributes of social potential in organization.

W analizie i ocenie działalności klastrów jako bardzo zróżnicowanych i dynamicznych struktur sieciowych można przyjąć, że ich wspólną właściwością jest stosunek do innowacji i gospodarki wiedzą. Te czynniki są kluczem sukcesu w powstawaniu i rozwoju klastrów kluczowych i są obecne w dobrych praktykach funkcjonowania wszelkich struktur sieciowych. Zatem kategoria innowacji i wiedzy może być silnym kryterium różnicującym ocenę działań i zachowań uczestników klastra. W artykule przedstawiona została propozycja oceny potencjału rozwojowego klastra oparta na perspektywie innowacyjnej.
In analysis and evaluation of activities of clusters as diversified and dynamic network structures it is possible to assume that their shared property is the attitude towards the innovation and knowledge management. These factors are a key of the success in coming into existence and the development of crucial clusters and are present among best practices of functioning of all network structures. And so the category of the innovation and knowledge can be a strong criterion diversifying the evaluation of operations and of behaviours of participants in the cluster. In the article the proposal of the evaluation of the developmental potential of cluster based on the innovative prospect was presented.

Purpose: The paper aims to identify major components of the competitive potential of enterprises operating at the initial stage of the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The research hypothesis H1 is advanced: the scope of business objects affects the selection of enterprise competitive potential components. The concept and nature of competitiveness are discussed and the subject matter of enterprise competitive potential is detailed. Design/methodology/approach: The theoretical section follows a thorough review of leading specialist literature. The empirical part, on the other hand, uses the exploratory factor analysis, which detects an optimum group of main factors and explains correlations among observable variables, serves to verify the hypothesis. The number of factors is determined by means of the Cattell scree and Kaiser criteria. Findings: The paper contains the results of research into 253 large enterprises in the Polish economy. Exploratory factor analysis is employed to define the statistically significant components of competitive potential of enterprises active in the initial phase of the economic crisis and the effect of business objectives is explored on the selection of the components of enterprise competitive potential. It is shown that, regardless of business objects, three factors, namely, innovative machinery and equipment, the financial condition of an enterprise, and human capital, are the key components of enterprise competitive potential. Practical implications: The results can be utilised by entrepreneurs as a guide to the selection of the components of enterprise competitive potential at the times of crises. Originality/value: The paper presents the results of original research into a representative group of large enterprises which can be generalised to the entire population assuming a confidence level of α = 95% and maximum error of β = 6%.

Artykuł jest próbą zdefiniowania przyczyn tego stanu rzeczy oraz określenia szans i barier rozwoju innowacyjności polskich przedsiębiorstw.
The article includes an analysis of factors that shape the development of innovative potential of Polish companies. The analysis is based on the author’s own research and on available literature. Instruments of supporting innovativeness used in Poland have been confronted with solutions from other countries. Poland is in one of the last positions among other European countries in terms of innovativeness. The article is an attempt of defining the causes of this state of things and of specifying the opportunities and barriers of innovativeness development in Polish companies.

W części empirycznej, na podstawie przeprowadzonego badania ankietowego, zaprezentowano wyniki dotyczące wiedzy, umiejętności i potencjału pracowników w jednym z Oddziałów Zakładów Ubezpieczeń Społecznych.
This article describes the necessary competences and skills which are crucial for workers of public administration. The importance of the employee's potential was explained as the ability of adapting to new conditions, having more complex tasks, situations, personal motivation or engagement in work. The empirical part, based on the query survey, presents results concerning knowledge, skills and potential of employees in one of the Social Insurance Institutes.

Purpose: Among the strategic potentials of a firm affecting both market and economic outcomes achievement by the firm, as well as gaining and maintaining a long-term competitive advantage by a firm, the key importance is assigned to the firm competences. The aim of the article is to identify the premises as well as the criteria and cross-sections of the classification of firm competences. Design/methodology/approach: The article indicates the key criteria and types of the firm competences within strategic management. An extensive literature review and an identification approach were used. Findings: Competences should be classified using different criteria. Individual competences may significantly affect the achievement of the expected market and economic outcomes, as well as building a long-term competitive advantage of a firm. Practical implications: The research outcomes presented in the article show the importance of the different types of the firm competences in strategic management. Originality/value: The most important criteria of the classification of the firm competences in the area of strategic management were presented. The article is addressed both to researchers as well as managers and other business practitioners.

The paper presents the considerations on the nature of the capacity of firms representing the industry TSL (transport – shipping – logistic). Drew attention to the definition of the concept, its importance in business operations. The main aim of this article is to identify a broad set of determinants that may shape the innovative potential of these companies. The article is an attempt to determine the direction of further research on the issue of the potential of innovative enterprises in the TSL.

During the last decades, maritime security has always stood as a separate critical problem for both shipowners and crews of sea-going ships, characterized by alternating periods of relative stability and periods of occurrence and growth of new threats, which proceeded from times of sailing fleet to an epoch of iron steam shipbuilding. Certainly, it is difficult to overestimate the significant role of the scientific community, which has been researching this problem for a long time, studying its scientific and practical sides. The professional experience of seafarers in sufficient measure, served as a basis of interest to this question, has led to the development of strategies and complex measures, which until now provided safety for ships and their crewmembers. Without recent advances in maritime security, shipping as an industry would not be able to reach the current level of reliability in shipping processes. Each generation of humanity has prioritized maritime security, contributing to improving its standards and stressing the importance of continuous development of the theoretical base. At least 23 million tons of cargo and 55,000 passengers move daily by water transport, so the concept of maritime safety applies not only to the safety of life at sea, ship and cargo security but also to the prevention of maritime accidents and pollution. The increasing share of sea and river transport in the international cargo and passenger turnover leads to the need to increase demands on maritime safety and security.

W artykule omówione zostały wybrane wyniki badań dotyczące inno-wacyjności polskich przedsiębiorstw. Skupiono się na dwóch problemach badawczych. Pierwszy przedstawia ocenę wpływu czynników (zasobów) marketingowych na budowę potencjału innowacyjnego polskich przedsiębiorstw przemysłowych, natomiast drugi problem koncentruje się na aktywność innowacyjną polskich przedsiębiorstw przemysłowych, zwłaszcza na innowacjach w obszarze zasobów marketingowych.

Opis:
W artykule podjęto próbę określenia czynników, które wpływają na budowanie wykwalifikowanego potencjału ludzkiego Ukrainy w kontekście dostosowania go do warunków gospodarki konkurencyjnej. Najważniejszy składnik budowy zasobów kapitału ludzkiego stanowi wielkość populacji, która zarówno pozytywnie jak i negatywnie wpływa na rozwój potencjału społecznego. Wielkość populacji kształtują zmiany demograficzne takie jak: zmiany w rozmnażaniu się populacji, urodzenia, zgony, ich korelacje, jak również częściowo problemy migracyjne. Na budowanie wykwalifikowanego potencjału ludzkiego państwa wpływają także przedsięwzięcia mające na celu jego rozwój.
Factors influencing on skilled potential of Ukraine in the cut of of competition ability of economy are investigational. The major constituent of skilled potential is considered - resource through the prism of population. Factors are certain, positively and negatively influencing on development of labour potential of Ukraine. Demographic changes, changes, are studied in character of reproduction of population, birth - rate, death rate, their correlation, and also partly migration. Measures are offered influencing on development of skilled potential of Ukraine.
