Shared mobility systems are becoming quite popular around the world. This trend has led to the continuous development of vehicle fleet and use by a growing number of individual users. Due to this, the services of shared mobility have been analysed from the viewpoint of many different aspects. Safety and security issues are particularly important for both the user and the operator. This paper is dedicated to the concept of different issues of safety and security in shared mobility solutions such as bike-, car- and scooter-sharing, peer-to-peer sharing services and on-demand riding systems. The idea of shared mobility and case study, based on problems with safety and security aspects related to that kind of mobility is presented in the text. The aim of the work was to show the importance of safety and security aspects in the shared mobility solutions.

Purpose: The main aim of this paper is to show how the new, especially the current development in infrastructure in the urban setup, in this case, the capital city of Kenya, Nairobi, improves the movement within the city. Furthermore, it also examines the various ways in which these new infrastructures have improved or improved the quality of life of the city residents. Design/methodology/approach: Nairobi city was chosen as it is the biggest and largest city in east and central Africa. The literature theories used in this paper were gathered from various internet sources such as the website of Nairobi city authority and also from the website of different media companies. In addition to these, some literature sources and books were also used to gather information for the paper as well as audio-visual sources like YouTube. Personal experience about the country and the city was also used as the author comes from the country and the city being talked about in this paper. Findings: The outcome of this theoretical paper was that indeed the efficient mobility within a city depends on how well the infrastructures are efficient. These include transport, technology, environmental and social infrastructures. These infrastructures help to improve mobility to a higher level as compared to the previous ones. The new ones being implemented by the city authorities and the central government play a crucial role in improving the living standard of the city residents by easy and efficient movement within the city. The new infrastructures range from physical infrastructures, technologies, the organization to the management of the whole city as all must be combined for efficient mobility. Originality/value: This article deals with how the new infrastructures help in improving mobility within urban settings especially in a developing world like Kenya. It also looks at the past, current, and future plans for the city's infrastructural development to enhance mobility. These also include the political, social, and economic will of the authorities concerned.

Smart cities and smart mobility are often analysed by systematic, sustainability-related, informatical, etc., issues. However, the quality elements of smart mobility services have not yet been reviewed. In this paper, we reviewed smart cities and smart mobility as well as the quality elements of smart mobility services. Based on the reviewed literature, we illustrated the requirements against smart mobility and uncovered the need for optimisation. We also interpret a monitoring method based on SERVQUAL. This method can be a base of establishing key performance indicators as well as benchmarking between cities.

Main goal of the study work is to gain data about shopping and mobility behaviour at small local supermarkets with sales floor space less than 1.000 m2. Four location types have been defined and discussed; rural − peripheral location, rural − central location, urban – central location and urban – peripheral location. 200 shoppers each location were interviewed at the exit of the supermarket, which means a total of 800 interviews were carried out during all day times and working days of the supermarket. As expected, the mode choice is strongly dependent on the location of the supermarket. In car oriented settlements, which can be found at rural peripheral locations, nearly all shoppers accessed the supermarket with their cars. If weighting the expenditure per visit with the frequency of visits, the average expenditure per month and mode can be derived. The average purchase per month between the modes is more or less balanced. A difference in behaviour lies in the fact that cyclists and pedestrians go shopping more frequently but are spending less per visit. Additionally, the results of this study are indicating the existence of a potential mode shift, especially if there is better land use planning for supermarket locations. Furthermore, considering the given situation and a given threshold of less than 5 kilograms of weight of the goods purchased, more than fifty percent of all shoppers could use non motorised modes with insignificant loss of travel quality. Combined with short travel distances to the next shop (the average distance is 4.9 km), a change to alternative means of transport would be relatively easy for a significant number of shoppers.
Głównym celem badania w tym artykule jest uzyskanie danych o zakupach oraz zachowaniach mobilnych w małych lokalnych supermarketach o powierzchni sprzedaży mniejszej niż 1000 m2. Zostały zdefiniowane i omówione cztery typy lokalizacji: wiejskie − peryferyjne położenie, wiejskie − w centrum miasta, miejskie − centralne położenie i miejskie − peryferyjne położenie. W ciągu całego dnia przeprowadzono wywiady z 200 kupującymi wychodzącymi z supermarketów w każdej z lokalizacji, co oznacza 800 wywiadów w ciągu całego dnia roboczego supermarketu. Tak jak oczekiwano, tryb wyboru silnie zależy od lokalizacji w supermarkecie. W osiedlach zorientowanych na samochody, które mogą się znajdować w lokalizacjach peryferyjnych wiejskich, prawie wszyscy kupujący odwiedzili sklep, przyjeżdżając samochodami. Przy rozpatrywaniu wydatków na wizytę z częstotliwością wizyt mogą zostać wydzielone średni wydatek na miesiąc oraz tryb. Przeciętna sprzedaż na jeden miesiąc pomiędzy trybami jest mniej lub bardziej zrównoważona. Różnica w zachowaniu polega na tym, że rowerzyści i piesi robią zakupy częściej, ale wydają mniej na wizytę. Dodatkowo wyniki tego badania wskazują na istnienie potencjalnej zmiany trybu, zwłaszcza jeśli użytkowanie gruntów dla lokalizacji supermarketów jest lepiej zaplanowane. Co więcej, przy uwzględnieniu przedstawionej sytuacji oraz przedstawionego progu poniżej 5 kg wagi zakupionych dóbr ponad pięćdziesiąt procent wszystkich kupujących mogło użyć trybów niezmotoryzowanych przy nieznacznej utracie jakości podróży. W połączeniu z krótkimi dystansami podróży do następnego sklepu (średnia odległość − 4,9 km) zmiana alternatywnych środków transportu będzie stosunkowo łatwa dla znacznej liczby kupujących.

The concentration of population in urban centres and the progressing economic development are the one of the fundamental causes of problems of functioning of contemporary cities. One of these issues is the urban transport causing environmental losses and a lower quality of life. The concept that limits the adverse phenomena may be the smart city, and intelligent solutions in the way of moving the urban community. The purpose of this article is to show how urban transport can influence the shaping of intelligent solutions in cities with the help of various factors and components.
Koncentracja ludności w ośrodkach miejskich oraz postępujący rozwój gospodarczy stanowią jedne z zasadniczych przyczyn problemów funkcjonowania współczesnych miast. Jednym z tych zagadnień jest transport miejski powodujący straty w środowisku naturalnym oraz niższą jakość życia. Koncepcją ograniczającą niekorzystne zjawiska może być smart city, a w tym inteligentne rozwiązania w sposobie przemieszczania się miejskiej społeczności. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie jak transport miejski może wpłynąć na kształtowanie inteligentnych rozwiązań w miastach przy pomocy różnych czynników i komponentów.

Looking through the known and used buoyant systems, it can be remarked that the single buoyant segments are the stiff objects made of steel or plastic with variable dimensions and a complex construction. The ready to use buoyant segments, that assure the proper displacement, must have the factory leak-tightness. They take up a big transportation volume and need the assurance of the suitably abundant means of transport. Usually the heavy wheeled vehicles are needed because of high own mass of buoyant segment and large gauges. The exploitation of such constructions is very expensive. A cassette pontoon bridge, presented in this paper, is the proposition of the increase of the mobility of construction. The decrease of the single buoyant segment dimensions with the assurance of the capacity leads that more segments fit into in the same dimensions of the loading compartment of the vehicle and storage accommodation. The application of standardized joints assures the assembly efficiency with not numerous crew.

Jednym z podstawowych wyzwań polskiego szkolnictwa wyższego jest intensyfikacja aktywności międzynarodowej we wszystkich obszarach działalności. Wymaga to poszukiwania nowych form kształcenia, sposobów nawiązywania kontaktów umożliwiających trwałe funkcjonowanie w międzynarodowych sieciach akademickich. W pracy przedstawiono przesłanki i uwarunkowania innowacyjności w szkolnictwie wyższym, w kontekście możliwości wspierania procesów umiędzynarodowienia. Podkreślono rolę technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych w rozwoju innowacyjnych form umiędzynarodowionego kształcenia, takich jak mobilność wirtualna, otwarta edukacja.
One of the basic challenges of Polish higher education is the intensification of international activity in all areas of activity. This requires searching for new forms of education, ways of establishing contacts enabling permanent functioning in international academic networks. The paper presents the reasons and determinants of innovation in higher education in the context of the possibility of supporting internationalization processes. The role of information and communication technologies in the development of innovative forms of internationalized education, such as virtual mobility and open education, was emphasized.

In many EU cities, trolleybuses are experiencing a period of revitalization. New lines, state-of-the-art designs, the use of auxiliary propulsion batteries, ecological values and other factors offer great opportunities for this kind of public transport as an effective tool to shape transport policy in accordance with the principles of sustainable mobility. Gdynia is one of three cities in Poland with a trolleybus public transport subsystem. Since the beginning of political and economic transformation, Gdynia’s authority consistently implements measures aimed at balancing urban mobility, above all by improving the quality of public transport services and creating conditions for the development of alternatives forms of transport to private car travel. The experience of the development of trolleybuses in Gdynia as an element of sustainable mobility, the nature of this means of transport in both economic and operation terms, the implementation of original technological solutions in the trolleybuses’ construction and the impact on decision-making by marketing research are the areas of interest in this paper.

W artykule przedstawiono wybrane zagadnienia dotyczące projektowania dwóch nowych konstrukcji transportu miejskiego, całkowicie dostosowanych do osób starszych i niepełnosprawnych. Prace te są prowadzone w ramach Projektu Eco-Mobilność, realizowanego na Wydziale Transportu Politechniki Warszawskiej, objętego Programem Operacyjnym Innowacyjna Gospodarka i współfinansowanego z Europejskiego Funduszu Rozwoju Regionalnego. Innowacyjne, funkcjonalne rozwiązania przedstawiono dla eco-samochodu i pojazdu PRT (Personal Rapid Transit).
Nowadays, the challenge for transport designers is to ensure more mobility and participation in social life of elderly and disabled people, because of the systematic increase of this group. The selected issues regarding designing of the two new public means of transport construction, completely adjusted to the elderly and disabled people have been presented in this paper. The research work has been carried out within the Eco Mobility Project that is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund/Operational Programme for Innovative Economy. The innovative solution of eco-car and PRT vehicle have been presented.

Erasmus mobility is one of the most important manifestations of internationalization of education in Europe. The aim of the study is to ascertain the participants’ motives and the benefits coming from this international exchange of students as well as to diversify the results with regard to gender. The article, in its theoretical part, characterizes the concept of internationalization of education, describes the factors motivating for educational mobility, the benefits and the barriers of participation. The empirical part contains own researches carried out on a group of 125 students from Polish and foreign universities, using the CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) tool. It turns out that the main motivators to participate in student international education mobility is, among women, desire to travel as well as development of language skills. Men are mainly motivated by having fun and good time. Regardless of the research results it can be noticed that, generally, employers are more likely to decide to hire people who participated in and international student exchange, and the risk of long-term unemployment among graduates with international experience is lower by half than among graduates without such international experience. On the other hand, internationalization of education involves risks, including commercial profits, academic colonization and difficulties in providing high-quality education.

The dynamic development of cities based on the role of the car in addressing transport needs leads to a reduction of mobility, as well as to an increase in external costs generated by the transport system. This problem can be solved thanks to the sustainable mobility concept, in which transport needs are limited at the stage of planning spatial development and then covered by public transport as well as by cycle and pedestrian journeys. This article identifies arguments justifying the implementation of FFPT in Poland, and also evaluates their relevance based on the experiences described in the literature and the example of Żory. On this basis, it can be concluded that the evidence for the impact of FFPT on sustainable urban mobility is poor. Neither does FFPT reduce mobility exclusion. At the same time, the introduction of this solution is expensive, especially in the metropolitan areas.

In this paper, we consider the mobility and stability of a model of a tractor-lorry-trailer combination, consisting of a two-axle tractor and a single-axle semi-trailer, and its possible stationary states with fixed steering. A feature of this research is the study of a non-linear mathematical model of a two-link tractor-lorry-trailer combination. The set of steady-state conditions for the movement of the tractor-lorry-trailer combination model is determined on the basis of the developed mathematical model; it provides the necessary mobility for the passage of the circular overall traffic lane. The range of stable steady-state conditions of the road train is limited and the character of the loss of stability in the direct motion of the road train (divergent, flutter) is checked. The phase portraits of the system are constructed at different speeds, which allow us to estimate the range of attraction for direct motion. Stability issues are also considered, namely, the influence of the control parameters (θ, v) on stability or instability.

Identification of the variables that influence a commuter’s decision to make or embark on a trip is perhaps one of the strategic guides for initiating or adopting any transportation policy in cities. This study aims to examine the influencing factors that determine intra-urban travel in the sub-Saharan city of Enugu, Nigeria. A qualitative esearch method is adopted, and from the city's various residential areas, three research clusters were identified and selected for investigation. A survey was conducted within the six selected neighbourhoods, which include Abakpa, Gariki and Ogbete neighbourhoods (high residential density areas); New Haven & Uwani neighbourhoods (medium residential density areas); and Trans-Ekulu (low residential density area). This was arrived at using a simple random and stratified sampling technique. The data collection instrument was a structured questionnaire distributed to 400 respondents based on the Yamane model. It was discovered that apart from socioeconomic determinants that influence the travel behaviour of commuters in the study area, other factors are related to public-transit service attributes. The results of the study also indicated that there is a statistically significant relationship between the various residential areas in Enugu metropolis and the residents’ perception of the factors influencing intra-city mobility (i.e. R = .488 and P = .006 at 0.05 significance level). It is concluded and recommended that urban transportation policies, which emphasize accessibility with policies related to landue planning and the decentralization of activity within the metropolis, need to be implemented. Other modes of non-motorized transportation should be reintroduced to address the determinants of intra-city mobility such as affordable prices of transport, safety of passengers on board, environmental pollution, traffic congestion and time wastage.

Nowadays cities are affected by the increasing number of cars. Car traffic leads to considerable problems related with congestion, parking, accidents as well as environmental pollution. Thus a very important issue is change of people’s mobility, behaviours towards more sustainable transport modes: public transport, bikes, walking trips or shared car usage – carpooling and carsharing systems. We can shape the travellers’ attitudes and behaviours using the mobility management concept. Mobility management is an approach to the passenger transport, oriented on promotion of sustainable mobility means and on management of demand for car usage. The paper presents the mobility management concept as well as gives examples of instruments applied in UE, North America, but also in Polish conditions, especially in Krakow.
Współczesne miasta dotknięte są wzrastającą liczbą samochodów osobowych. Ruch zmotoryzowany prowadzi do poważnych problemów związanych z kongestią komunikacyjną, kłopotów z parkowaniem, wypadkami oraz zanieczyszczeniem środowiska. Dlatego niezwykle istotną kwestią jest zmiana zachowań komunikacyjnych ludzi w kierunku korzystania z bardziej zrównoważonych środków lokomocji: środków transportu publicznego, rowerów, podróży pieszych oraz współdzielenia samochodów – podróżowania w systemach carpooling i carsharing. Postawy oraz zachowania podróżnych mogą być kształtowane przy wykorzystaniu koncepcji zarządzania mobilnością. Zarządzanie mobilnością to podejście do przewozów pasażerskich, zorientowane na promowanie proekologicznych środków transportu oraz zarządzanie popytem na użytkowanie samochodów prywatnych. Artykuł prezentuje koncepcję zarządzania mobilnością oraz podaje przykłady instrumentów stosowanych w krajach Unii Europejskiej, Ameryce Północnej, ale i również w warunkach polskich, szczególnie w Krakowie.

This article presents the results of the analysis and assessment of the effect on transport of programs supporting housing investments in the context of transport demand management. The evaluation of the presented programs confirms the dependence of inconsistent spatial planning policy and the growth of transport needs. The effects of the programs have been analyzed in detail. The article shows in a case study form that investment decisions directly affect communication behavior and changes in the demand for transport in Bielsko-Biała. It also presents the analysis and evaluation of the results of the author's studies (own research). These studies included knowledge and behaviors that generate demand for city transport. Analysis of these data allows to conclude that there is no simple relationship between the level of knowledge of travelers about their impact of congestion and shaping the demand for transport, and their balanced behavior in the context of urban mobility - statistical dependence is irrelevant. Numerous experiments show that both factors, transport policy and awareness of social causes in transport problems, have a very strong effect on the demand for transport. The analysis of this research is another argument that justifies the strong need to build and develop a consistent policy in this area.
