Opis:
Identifying the factors that significantly affect the quality of life of the residents of municipalities of the Kielce poviat based on a synthetic indicator. Design/methodology/approach: The method used in the paper is create a synthetic indicator designed using a taxonomic method and the estimation of the logistic regression model. Data of the Central Statistical Office concerning the years 2014-2018 were used in the calculations. Findings: The obtained values of the TMR (Total Material Requirement) indicator suggest that in the Kielce poviat the quality of life of the residents of individual municipalities is very diverse. At the same time, a common positive tendency is observed, manifested in the trend indicating an improvement in the quality of life in each of the municipalities in the examined period. The constructed indicator was used to estimate the regression model for cross-sectional data from 2018. Originality/value: The estimated models allowed to formulate conclusions concerning the impact of particular explanatory variables on the diagnosed level of quality of life in the surveyed municipalities.

There is a widespread perception that sustainable development is an optimal way of development for the world globally. Sustainability requires a reorientation of global, national and local policies in a way to put the long-term quality of life as a priority. Around the world governments at all levels have been learning how to work with the idea of sustainable development and searching for ways to introduce it into practice. Over the last two decades, there has been an intensive discourse and research about measuring sustainable development. Many initiatives have been undertaken to introduce indicators for monitoring and measuring progress towards sustainability. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the meaning of a category of quality of life for sustainable development from global to a local perspective. It gives recommendations for policymaking and suggestions for future research. The paper reviews key findings, research gaps and also discusses policy implications in terms of the importance of quality of life for sustainable development.

Opis:
Purpose: The paper aims to assess the variation in the environmental quality of life in Poland's voivodships in 2021. The study uses indicators to monitor the links between the natural environment and society. They indicate how environmental conditions affect the quality of life and well-being of the population. Design/methodology/approach: The study used one of the taxonomic methods - the TOPSIS method, based on which the voivodships were divided into four classes characterised by similar levels of environmental quality of life. Findings: The study results showed that Podkarpackie, Lubuskie, Małopolskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodships, characterised by high natural values and relatively low environmental impact ratios compared to other voivodships and the national average, were in the best group due to the environmental quality of life. The last places belonged to the Pomorskie, Opolskie, Łódzkie and Śląskie Voivodships. Most of them are industrial, which means that the indicators of environmental impact, especially air pollution and collected waste, are relatively high and exceed the national average. Social implications: The research results presented in the article may be useful for the diagnosis of current results and the revision of the environmental policy of the entire country as well as their individual regions in the future. Originality/value: The article fits into contemporary debates on the effectiveness of implementing the concept of green economy as a tool for sustainable development.

Purpose: The objective of the article is to present the quality of life in terms of residents in the example of a large city. Design/methodology/approach: Research was carried out remotely using an online questionnaire. A diagnostic survey method was used with the residents. The research topics are related to the quality of life of the residents, based on the current state of life and factors influencing the quality of life. Findings: The study found that the quality of life has a significant impact on the functioning of residents in their private and professional lives regarding living conditions in a large city. The conducted research shows that there are many problems related to the quality of life of the residents and that information on their existence may be valuable information for Municipal Office. Social implications: Social implications of the research were indicated. Attention was paid to the benefits of research for improving the quality of life in the city. Originality/value: The study highlights the need for comprehensive quality of life research conducted among residents. Methods of obtaining data from residents were proposed to Municipal Offices and the conditions for their use for the city's development were defined.

Purpose: The aim of this article is to present the concept of the second stage of research concerning the study of quality of life at the city level and to indicate the cognitive possibilities offered by combining the two stages of research. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the results of the first stage of research, the assumptions and methodology for the second stage were developed. A concept of a survey carried out among a sample of 84 municipal offices of cities with over 50,000 residents located in Poland is presented. Particular attention was paid to the development of the research tool and the conditions necessary to obtain a high return in the survey. Findings: The developed concept provides an opportunity to trace the dynamics of phenomena related to the study of quality of life at the city level. It enables comparison of two groups of cities which conduct and do not conduct structured research on the quality of life. It provides information required to explain adverse phenomena related to data collection and processing and their causes. Research limitations/implications: Limitations resulting from the specificity of the research were highlighted and directions for further research were indicated. Practical implications: The possibility of practical use of the research results in the context of data acquisition for sustainable development of cities was highlighted. Social implications: Social implications of the research were indicated. Proper acquisition and utilisation of information obtained from residents should affect improvement of the quality of life. Originality/value: The article presents a completely new approach to research on the quality of life on the city level. In the first stage, the aim was to investigate whether municipal offices are able to extract data from surveys on quality of life of their residents in order to use them for sustainable development. The second stage involves investigating how the cities process these data and the extent to which they use this information in their office activities.

The main purpose of these consideration is a selective describe of existing measures of quality of life in the context of social development. The analysis will have a theoretical character, it will cover such issues as, definitions of development, quality of life, subjective, objective and integrated concepts of measuring the quality of life. It is assumed that this reflection will help to draw attention to the necessity of constant adjustment of the quality of life measures to what is socially considered as development.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to collect information on students' perception of their life quality during a pandemic. It aimed at gaining information on how quality of life changed before and during the pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: The research method used was a questionnaire survey. For this purpose, Google Form was used. The survey contained 22 multiple choice questions. Findings: The pandemic had a negative impact on the perception of life quality. Using a categorization into 8 areas in the hierarchy of values in the students' lives, the most important were found to be family, mental and physical health and friends. Research limitations/implications The major limitation was the number of votes collected in the survey. The next research should be extended to include the issue of hierarchy of values in relation to the perception of life quality and a larger research group, for example, students from different universities in different provinces. Social implications: This study will provide insight into the issues and changes in the perception of life quality that affect students during a global pandemic. The article presented here is a voice in the discussion of students' perception of life quality during a pandemic. Originality/value: The research presents changes in the perception of life quality by students of the Silesian University of Technology during a global pandemic.

W artykule poruszone są zagadnienia związane z jakością życia zwłaszcza z perspektywy nauk medycznych oraz proces społecznych zmian rozumienia starości. Prezentuje również techniki medyczne, które w przyszłości mogą mieć wpływ na poprawę jakości życia wśród osób starszych. Analizuje również obszary bioetyki implikujące problemy etyczne takie jak przedłużanie życia czy eutanazje z perspektywy dwóch orientacji etyczno-filozoficznych: absolutyzmu i relatywizmu.
The article deals with issues related to quality of life, especially from the perspective of medical sciences and the process of social change of understanding of old age. It also presents medical techniques that can improve the quality of life for the elderly in the future. It also analyzes areas of bioethics implying ethical issues such as prolonging life or euthanasia from the perspective of two ethical-philosophical orientations: absolutism and relativism.

Jakość życia stanowi jeden z kluczowych aspektów zrównoważonego rozwoju w kontekście rozwoju regionalnego. Z uwagi na interdyscyplinarny charakter kategorii jakości życia, która stanowi konglomerat wskaźników związanych z: materialnym poziomem życia (wskaźniki dochodowe i warunki mieszkaniowe), warunkami pracy, edukacją, ochroną zdrowia, infrastrukturą transportową i łącznością, kulturą, turystyką i rekreacją oraz dostępnością do dobrej jakości środowiska, badanie jakości życia jest kwestią złożoną. W niniejszym artykule podjęto próbę oceny jakości życia w województwie opolskim w latach 2005-2015 w ujęciu wskaźnikowym (wybrane wskaźniki kontekstowe). Dodatkowo opracowanie uzupełniono o syntetyczną analizę wyników badań zaprezentowanych w Diagnozie społecznej, które pozwalają ukazać subiektywne kryteria oceny jakości życia w regionie.
The quality of life is one of the key aspects of sustainable development in the context of regional development. Due to the interdisciplinary character of the quality of life, which is a conglomerate of indicators related to: material living standards (indicators of income and the housing conditions), working conditions, education, health, infrastructure, transport and communication, culture, tourism and recreation and the availability of a good quality environment, the quality of life survey is a complex issue. In this article, there was the attempt to assess the quality of life in the Opolskie voivodship in the period 2005-2015 on indexed basis (selected context indicators). In addition, this paper was supplemented with a synthetic analysis of the results of studies, which were presented in The Social diagnosis, which show the subjective criteria for assessing the quality of life in the region.

W artykule usystematyzowano wiedzę o czynnikach warunkujących zachowania wyborcze i zbadano korelacje między wskaźnikami zrównoważonego rozwoju a poparciem udzielonym kandydatom na stanowisko wójta lub burmistrza, którzy w 2014 startowali z poparciem Komitetu Wyborczego Wyborców Mniejszości Niemieckiej w gminach zamieszkanych przez mniejszość niemiecką i wygrali wybory.
The paper concerns the research problem of the correlation between living conditions and voters’ decisions leading to election of candidates supported by the German minority as mayor and village Mayors in communes of Opole voivodeship In 2014. Correlations were analysed between objective indicators of the quality of life and elections’ results in these communes.

Zasadniczym celem artykułu jest uwydatnienie powiązań między zagadnieniami nierówności społecznych i jakości życia. Pojęcie jakości życia jest często stosowane w codziennych dyskusjach – jako ogólne rozumienie dobrobytu. Trudności nastręcza jednak wypracowanie akademickiego znaczenia tego terminu. Aby przezwyciężyć ten problem, niektórzy naukowcy postulują oparcie się na dwóch wskaźnikach jakości życia: subiektywnych (poczucie szczęścia) i obiektywnych (dostęp do cenionych dóbr i usług). Ponieważ wiele społecznie cennych dóbr jest ograniczonych (np. majątek), ludzie nie mają równego do nich dostępu.
The main purpose of the article is to highlight connections between the problem of social inequalities and the problem of quality of life. The quality of life term is often used in everyday discourse – as a general understanding of well-being. The difficulty is to develop academic definition of this concept. To solve that problem some scientists postulate base on two types indicators of quality of life: subjective (self-declared happiness) and objective (access to socially significant goods and services). Because many socially significant goods are limited (e.g. wealth), people do not have equal access to them.

Opis:
The article presents empirical results of the 5th round of a sociological research carried out in 2010 as a part of an international project European Social Survey. The results refer to the inhabitants of the Slovak Republic. Particularly, it focuses on subjective evaluation of quality of life by expressing the rate of satisfaction/dissatisfaction with social life (satisfaction with the state of democracy, economy, education, health services and with the government of the Slovak Republic). The primary aim of the contribution is to provide technical public with empirical research of social-scientific character with an intention to ‘optimize’ technique and human science and to contribute to the synthesis of sciences.
Artykuł przedstawia empiryczne wyniki 5. edycji badań socjologicznych przeprowadzonych w latach 2009-2010 w ramach międzynarodowego projektu: Europejski sondaż społeczny dotyczący mieszkańców Republiki Słowackiej. Konkretnie poświęca uwagę subiektywnej ocenie jakości życia poprzez wyrażenie stopnia zadowolenia / niezadowolenia z życia społecznego (zadowolenie ze stanu demokracji, ekonomii, edukacji, opieki zdrowotnej oraz działania rządu Republiki Słowackiej). Głównym celem artykułu jest udostępnienie środowiskom technicznym empirycznych wyników o charakterze naukowo-społecznym w celu „zoptymalizowania“ techniki i humanistyki oraz przyczynienia się do syntezy nauk.
