Opis:
Purpose: Managing a pandemic in individual countries is a concern not only of governments but also of WHO and the entire international community. The pandemic knows no bounds. In this context, India is a special country - with a huge population and a very large diversity of cultural, geographic, economic, poverty levels, and pandemic management methods. In this work, we try to assess the sum of the impact of these factors on the state of the epidemic by creating a ranking of Indian states from the least to the most endangered. Design/methodology/approach: As a method of creating such a ranking, we take into account two very, in our opinion, objective variables - the number of deaths and the number of vaccinations per million inhabitants of the region. In order not to make the usually controversial ascribing of weights to these factors, we relate them to the selected reference region - here to the capital city - Delhi. We apply a logical principle - the more vaccinations, the better and the more deaths - the worse. Findings: The results are rather surprising. Many small regions are safe regions, such as Andaman, Tripura or Sikkim, many large or wealthy states are at the end of this ranking, such as Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu. What was found in the course of the work? This will refer to analysis, discussion, or results. Originality/value: The method enables an indirect assessment of the quality of pandemic management in a given region of the country. It can be used for any country or even a group of countries or a continent. According to this criterion, the best state/region is intuitively the safest for residents. A small number of deaths and a large number of vaccinations may positively indicate the state of public health and good management of the fight against the pandemic by local and/or central authorities.

The main objective of the survey is to identify changes in consumer behavior and the determinants that influenced purchasing decisions during the Covid-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: An interview questionnaire was used in the survey. The survey was conducted through a random selection of a sample. The electronic survey was conducted in April 2021. The questionnaire was completed by 220 people. The media were the tools to reach the respondents social networking and the survey itself was made available on the facebook.com portal, on thematic groups associating consumers of various products. The research was of a pilot nature. This limited the sample size and scope of the research. Findings: The analysis of the survey results shows that the COVID-19 pandemic affected the purchasing behavior of 76% of women and 62% of men. Surveys have shown how shopping habits have changed during the coronavirus pandemic. The respondents said they started purchasing more products online and that the frequency of shopping decreased, but they purchased more products at one go. The respondents bought only essential products and spent a larger portion of their money on protective measures than before. For 24% of women and 38% of men the pandemic had no impact on their consumer behavior. Originality/value: The analysis of the literature leads to the conclusion that there is not much research on consumer behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic. The paper is addressed to representatives of the scientific world dealing with the topic of consumer behavior and all those interested in this issue.

Opis:
Purpose: The end of the first quarter of 2020 is the beginning of a new, difficult time in the functioning of transport companies, as well as the entire Polish and world economy. The appearance of Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) resulted in a number of market restrictions and a sharp decline in transport orders. Enterprises had to change the way they were managed and operated, had to adapt to a different economic reality in order to continue to prosper. The aim of the article is to define the essence of managing a transport company in the new market and economic conditions that appeared during the Covid-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: The research procedure included review of polish and foreign literature, analysis of legal acts, questionnaire research, analysis of the content of internal documents of transport companies, method of analysis and synthesis, case study, methods of inductive and deductive reasoning. The article presents the results of scientific research on the impact of Covid-19 on the management and decisions made in a transport company. Findings: The high level of impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the management of a transport company has been demonstrated. The factor that most influenced the management and decisions of transport companies is the decline or fear of a decline in contracts for transport services. Transport companies are afraid of the further negative effects of the pandemic, and therefore do not want to take out investment loans in order to develop the company. The article discusses the activities of transport companies and the management of a transport company in crisis conditions. Research limitations/implications: The article presents a survey carried out in Polish transport companies from the Podkarpackie and Lubelskie voivodships. Therefore, the research results concern the area of south-eastern Poland. Practical implications: The results of the research may be helpful for managers of transport companies (management decisions made) in order to limit the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their business activities. Originality/value: The presented research and conclusions provide practical guidance to managers about what decisions and actions can improve the economic condition of their transport companies in the difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic, based on the example of the analyzed transport companies.

Opis:
Purpose: The questionnaire-based study investigated whether the COVID-19 pandemic increased stress in busy truck drivers' jobs. Design/methodology/approach: The sample of 239 drivers was examined in March-August, 2021. Findings: The study revealed that most drivers were resilient to COVID-19-related stressors. Some stressors, such as age, seniority, recovering from COVID-19, and worsening family financial conditions, were found to have more impact on some respondents than others. Age and seniority were related to anxiety about increased occupational activities. Those whose economic conditions worsened were afraid of job loss. People who recovered from COVID-19 felt overworked more often than others and tended to be scared of safety on the road and being alone in the truck. They more often required psychological support. Research limitations/implications: The study is based on a sample of drivers observed conveniently in 2021. Monitoring them in two or three waves is recommended to compare the impact of other processes that could affect responses. Practical implications: The outcomes are valuable in practice twofold. Firstly, the knowledge is acquired directly from the drivers who proved to be pretty resilient to COVID-related issues; however, some were more sensitive than others. That means the drivers as an occupational group cannot be considered uniform. Some needed psychological support, and such cases should be identified at the enterprise level. Secondly, the results show that COVID-related stressors with other accompanying issues increase the impact on drivers’ health. Originality/value: The empirical results revealed the most significant stressors. They were justified by using several stress definitions and psychological theories, particularly the Conservation of Resources Theory. They can be considered in the drivers' management process.

Opis:
Purpose: The main purpose of this article is to recognise whether changes in logistic customer service made by the surveyed companies after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic differed depending on the size of the company, the type of business and the role that the surveyed enterprise played in the supply chain. Design/methodology/approach: The results of empirical research conducted on a research sample of 250 companies are described (in the section concerning logistic customer service). The research was carried out in the second quarter of 2021. Findings: The processes taking place in enterprises to which special attention was paid and those which were the most important for enterprises from the point of view of logistic customer service are indicated. The changes in logistic customer service made after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic are outlined. Research limitations/implications: In the face of the ongoing pandemic, business representatives’ perception of logistic customer service may change over time. It is therefore worth repeating the research described in this article in the post-pandemic period in order to conduct a comparative analysis that may be a source of an interesting scientific discussion. Practical implications: Indicating the scope of the changes in logistic customer service made by enterprises during the COVID-19 pandemic may constitute the basis for enterprises to compare their activities with those performed by the enterprises participating in the research. These changes can be implemented to gain a competitive advantage. Social implications: Building awareness of the need to introduce changes in a company’s operations during the COVID-19 pandemic is a necessary element for creating new standards in the area of logistic customer service, for which not only economic values, but also ecological and social values are increasingly important. Originality/value: The processes taking place in enterprises and affecting customer satisfaction (which translates into a company’s profit) during the COVID-19 pandemic have not yet been thoroughly studied due to the course of the pandemic and its duration. This article is addressed to managers dealing with logistic customer service.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Cracow real estate market. The data used in the study included transactions of purchase of flats and single-family houses. At the initial stage, the database was reduced by applying a four-step selection and outliers were removed. The data analysis included separate transactions for single-family houses and flats, 5 different types of charts were prepared for each type of real estate. The conducted research concerned: the analysis of the number of transactions in subsequent years, the share of the number of transactions in individual quarters, average transaction prices (for houses) or average prices per square meter (for flats), analysis of the number of transactions in individual districts, years and quarters, and a comparison of the number of contracts in individual quarters given years. The main conclusion drawn from the study is the significant impact of COVID-19 on the number of house and apartment purchase transactions, while the pandemic did not have a significant impact on the average prices in the analysed database.

Opis:
Purpose: The study aimed to review the current literature on the psychosocial consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in psychiatric care. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the available literature, the author discussed and grouped the stressors related to the coronavirus pandemic. Next, the author drew attention to the harmful effects of pandemic stressors on psychosocial consequences. The author based his considerations on the latest world literature on the subject - only from the pandemic period, i.e., 2020-2022. For this purpose, the author studied mainly scientific articles and electronic sources. The author used the following professional scientific databases: Taylor & Francis online, PubMed, and Google Scholar to collect scientific literature. Findings: The SARS-CoV-2 virus has changed the image of everyday functioning in society, which has had an impact on mental health. The coronavirus pandemic contributed to psychosocial disorders that significantly reduced the quality of life. There has been a significant increase in depression, drug-induced disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorders. In the literature analysis, the author also indicated a rise in loneliness among seniors, increased domestic violence, and an increased risk of suicidal behavior. Social implications: The pandemic has shown investment in health means an investment in the economy, security, and the world's future. An efficient and safe health system is a raison d'etat, but it is also a colossal civilization challenge. The author noted the great importance of psychiatric care in alleviating stressors related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The author also pointed to the urgent need to subsidize psychiatry in Poland and increase human resources in this area. Originality/value: The author addressed the article to scientists, health care researchers, and managers/directors managing medical entities to make them aware that the coronavirus pandemic has serious health consequences, primarily in the mental sphere, posing a challenge health care systems around the world. The article's value highlights the invaluable and underestimated role of psychiatry in dealing with individual, institutional and social difficulties related to COVID-19 and future emerging infectious diseases. According to the author, the post-pandemic situation in psychiatry should consider the stressors identified during the pandemic and its psychosocial consequences. In this way, doctors can accurately diagnose a patient and propose an effective treatment path, treating the patient comprehensively and holistically.

Purpose: This article is written due to the need to study the investment behavior of households in Slovakia and changes in the investment behavior of households due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: The main methods used in the article are analysis, comparison, and synthesis. These methods were used in the researched issue of investment behavior. The main document from which the data were obtained was The Slovak survey of the financial situation and household consumption as a part of the European Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS) published by National Bank of Slovakia with cooperation of European Central Bank. These surveys were published in 2010, 2014 and 2017. By mutual comparison of these surveys and subsequent analysis, we can observe changes in the investment behavior of households in recent years. The analyzes were partially supplemented by various studies from the last year as well as partial outputs of the European Household Finance and Consumption Survey, which was researched in 2021, but at the time of writing this article had not yet been published. Findings: The results of the research presented clearly indicate a changing trend in the behavior of household investments. Strongly conservative households are gradually beginning to trust investment in mutual funds, bonds, and shares, and the share of funds deposited in deposits is gradually declining and is approaching the European average. Investment in real estate remains the most popular investment in Slovakia. These are often the main real estate used by households for housing or investment properties. Originality/value: The article presents interesting findings in the area of investment behavior of households in Slovakia and points to the upcoming change in investment behavior. The results of the research will help to set and update the content of subjects dealing with financial literacy and investing at a technically oriented university.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to illustrate to what extent, during the Covid-19 pandemic, leaders representing enterprises operating in Poland, use IT in motivating employees. Design/methodology/approach: The paper is based on a literature review, secondary materials in the form of research reports, describing the level of digital competence of Poles, employees and leaders, as well as own research. The results of pre-pandemic research indicate a low level of digital competence of a leader. With reference to this research, the paper presents part of the results of the author's study on digital leadership. Its implementation took place in 2021. 163 companies, located in Poland, participated in it. The study used a diagnostic survey method, the CAWI technique and the author's survey questionnaire. Findings: The results of the survey indicate that there is a fairly good level of digital competence among leaders, at least in terms of motivation. No correlation is noted between the use of IT in motivating employees with the scope of the company, the form of ownership of the company, the owner's capital, the size of the company and the respondent (manager, IT manager, owner, board member). Only in the case of the degree of computerization of the company does such a correlation appear. Research limitations/implications: When interpreting the results presented in the paper, it is worth bearing in mind some limitations accompanying the study. The first concerns the difficulty of identifying whether the surveyed managers can be called leaders. The second limitation is related to the use of self-assessment in assessing the digital competence of managers. In this regard, it would be worthwhile to conduct a survey of employees to verify the level of digital competence declared by managers. Originality/value: The paper deals with the use of IT in motivating employees, an under 27 identified but important problem, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results of the study can be a guide to what factors to pay attention to when improving the digital competence of the leader and employees.

Opis:
Introduction/background: Following the SARS-CoV-2 virus outbreak, the goals of the health care system had to be adapted to the changed environment to meet the health care needs of patients and the expectations of Polish health care workers for safe working conditions in emergency situations. The need for change concerning the health workforce, is mainly due to organisational and economic changes affecting health care systems worldwide and affects all forms of health care. The aim of this paper is to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the operation of a selected treatment facility. The research resulted in the author's master's thesis. Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to determine the changes that may have occurred in the operation of the treatment facility under investigation, influenced by the events taking place as a result of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, and to analyse the assessment of the staff of the treatment facility before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and methods: Literature analysis, analysis of source materials (internal), survey method - technique: indirect survey, tool: survey questionnaire. Results and conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic showed the state of the treatment facilities and the measures taken to cope with the new operating conditions. It is important to address staff shortages: nurses, doctors, economists trained in health system administration. Deficiencies in the health care system were revealed. Working in an environment with a lack of equipment and personnel forces changes in treatment methods. The application of standard treatment methods, developed under normal conditions, turns out to be either suboptimal to protect life and health or impossible. The most obvious conclusion is the lack of equipment, which occurs when the practitioner does not have the necessary tools or protective equipment that are formally authorised for medical use. Another of the identified frailties is the lack of adequate preparation of staff to work under stressful and even 'combative' conditions, contributing to staff overload, which may result in staff wanting to change jobs. Another finding is the lack of a developed procedure in terms of storage policy, which has a significant impact on the shortage of medical equipment in the medical facility. In addition, the sudden increase in the number of patients could have been a reason for employees to feel increased stress or a desire to change jobs. Such feelings, on the other hand, may have been the result of a lack of knowledge regarding the medical management of SARS-COV-2 coronavirus patients, in which certain risky emergency procedures were reserved for specialists or specially trained persons (e.g. intubation).

Opis:
Purpose: The objective of the paper is to assess the degree of influence of determinants from the environment and the internal environment of SMEs on the growth of their innovation potential (IP) and to verify the moderating effect of the cooperation with external actors and financial condition on the relationship between the influence of external and internal determinants on the innovation potential of the investigated enterprises during the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve the paper’s objective regression analysis has been applied. Findings: The paper presents the results of empirical research conducted among Polish SMEs during the pandemic period in 2021. The results reveal that financial condition constitutes a significant moderator of the relationship between determinants coming from the company's environment and their level of SME innovation potential. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that cooperation with entities responsible for helping to implement innovation significantly moderates the relationship between the influence of determinants coming from the internal environment of SMEs and their innovation potential. It has been also found, on the basis of a multivariate regression model, that among external determinants the strongest predictors of IP growth were socio-cultural and demographic factors, and among internal determinants: the quality management sphere and the financial sphere of the surveyed SMEs. Research limitations/implications: The main limitation of the conducted research is the impact of the pandemic conditions and also the location of the investigated SMEs in the region of the Lower Silesian Voivodship. Practical implications: The paper provides practical knowledge regarding the determinants of acting in the conditions related to a pandemic crisis. Originality/value: The paper provides new knowledge, analyses the external conditions and the internal environment of SMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic in the region, which is known as one of the most innovative in Poland. The research is addressed to research scholars, business pretensioners and policy makers of innovative policy.
