The article describes the problem regarding stalls in axial compressors, which are widely used in the engines of large and very large transportation aircrafts. The stall phenomenon, unless cleared, poses a major danger to the integrity of a compressor module, which in turn may result in uncontained engine failure and loss of thrust, thereby seriously affecting flight safety. The costs of maintenance to be performed may also be very high, due to irreversible deterioration in some components. A practical assessment of the stall problem and its countermeasures are discussed below.

When implementing projects on motor roads, financial and economic analysis of specific projects are usually provided. This article deals with the mathematical model which enables to analyze the entirety of projects on the motor road network with the view of determining which of them would give benefit to society the fastest and could be given priority in case of implementation. By applying this model and using the LP search (abbreviation from Russian Linear search) multi-criteria optimizing method, it is possible to calculate the project payoff time and an expected profit through the reduction of public costs. Also, an example on realization of the model is provided with calculation of the benefit that society receives if gravel road is paved.

The article analyses the possibilities of using the kamishibai audit in the area of quality inspection process implementation. The kamishibai audit is a tool of lean and visual management concept used, among others, in the Toyota automotive company in order to verify their compliance with standards. This audit can, in effect, contribute to the improvement of processes. In the article, the kamishibai audit was characterised, the characteristics of the audit that determine its usefulness in the area of quality inspection processes were identified, and an example procedure for the implementation of the kamishibai audit in the examined area was presented. The article also presents the characteristics of the successful implementation of kamishibai audits and ways of enhancing their effectiveness. It has been proven that kamishibai audits can be successfully used to evaluate standards in the area of quality inspection processes.

Purpose: The aim of the study is to determine changes in the cost efficiency of the administration of public higher education in Poland. Design/methodology/approach: The biennial cost Malmquist productivity index was used to study changes in cost efficiency of 58 public higher education institutions in 2014-2016. The results were presented for 6 groups of universities, according to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in Poland classification. Findings: The research shows that out of 6 groups of institutions accepted for the study, 2 achieved an increase and 1 a decrease in the Malmquist cost index in both study periods. Changes in the Malmquist cost index in the analyzed period are small as the index ranged from 0.98 to 1.06. Both component overall efficiency change and cost-technical change contributed to the change in the Malmquist index level. Research limitations/implications: The main limitation of the study are the analysis of changes in cost efficiency only. Additionally, only public universities supervised by the ministry responsible for higher education were studied. Future research should include changes in allocative efficiency using the Malmquist index. In addition, a larger research sample should be considered, taking into account other public universities, including medical, arts, etc., and non-public universities. Practical implications: The considerations presented are relevant to public university authorities. The article indicates the need to assess cost effectiveness in evaluating the functioning of a higher education institution. This belongs to the responsibilities of management control in terms of effectiveness and efficiency of HEIs and spending of public funds. Information on the variation of cost efficiency between HEIs, assigned to 6 groups, may become a stimulus to conduct an assessment of this economic category in a given unit and strive to improve it. Originality/value: The added value of the article is the use for the first time of the cost Malmquist index to examine higher education. Also, the use of a modified version of the cost Malmquist index to estimate efficiency assuming variable returns-to-scale.

The paper presents the results of a study aimed at identifying and assessing the efficiency of working capital management strategies in enterprises. The analysis focuses on the volumes of net working capital and its cycle (dependent variable), as well as the conversion cycles of its main components (independent variables). The study comprises the entire population of manufacturing enterprises in Poland covered by public statistics (nearly 14 thousand entities), divided into size categories (small, medium and large). The long-term analysis covers the period of 2007-2018. The study makes use of the measures that characterise working capital management strategies and their effects including net working capital volumes and working capital cycles. The study also employs measures related to correlations, similarity, density, positioning and classifying, as well as descriptive statistics. The effect of the study is the verification of three research hypotheses related to the characteristics, correlations, profile similarities and identification of working capital strategies in manufacturing enterprises.

Introduction/background: Organizational culture is a relatively new issue. This concept has started to take on a great importance in modern organizations based on knowledge and innovation. The researchers and managers were faced with the problem of how to introduce values into the organization, how to implement the company's mission and vision, how to “manage” employees' creativity, how to motivate and assign tasks to employees. Another important issue concerns measuring the impact of these soft factors on solid results. Is there a relationship between organizational culture and organizational performance and how to verify it? Aim of the paper: The work deals with the topic of organizational culture in theoretical and practical terms. The aim of the work was to define the influence of organizational culture on the management performance. Materials and methods: The work is based on literature studies, the results of literary studies from empirical research and own research of the author. Index methods were used to assess the condition of enterprises based on publicly available financial statements. The research supplements the opinions of employees of these companies. Results and conclusions: In the surveyed organizations, values, relationships and cooperation are put in the first place. Employees work primarily in teams. The aim of this style of work is to improve internal communication, mutual learning and information exchange, as well as stimulating creativity. Regarding the ratio analysis, the good condition of both organizations should be noted: the financial analysis indicators did not deteriorate. It should be stated that organizational performance is influenced by both the dependent variable and the independent variable. They can be analyzed as soft factors and solid factors. The analysis of the impact of these factors can be done using financial measures. The complementary value is constituted by the relations in the organization and the values which make it possible to more effectively implement the company's strategy, mission and vision of the business.

Increasing competition in the air transport market leads to changes in the positioning of companies and to searching for effective means to improve economic efficiency. Effective realization of the transportation process entails considerable expenses, and obtaining financial resources is becoming more and more difficult. In the era of globalization the process of looking for the methods to improve efficiency in the air transport is considerably growing in importance. The article presents the functioning process of strategic alliances, the system of code - share agreements and the significance of the level of the Load Factor coefficient. Possibilities of establishing a new organization by means of a merger or a takeover are also presented.
Narastająca konkurencja na rynku usług transportu lotniczego prowadzi do zmiany pozycjonowania przedsiębiorstw oraz poszukiwania skutecznych sposobów poprawy efektywności ekonomicznej. Skuteczna realizacja procesu transportowego wiąże się z wydatkowaniem znacznych nakładów, a ich pozyskanie staje się coraz trudniejsze. W dobie globalizacji szczególnego znaczenia nabiera proces poszukiwania metod poprawy efektywności w transporcie lotniczym. W artykule zaprezentowano proces funkcjonowania sojuszy strategicznych, system umów code - share, oraz znaczenie poziomu współczynnika Load Factor. Przedstawiono również możliwości utworzenia nowej organizacji w wyniku fuzji lub przejęcia.

Purpose: The main reason for developing the model was to fulfil the gap in the scope of synthetic/aggregate measure of corporate innovativeness in terms of company’s results in this area and their impact on its performance. Design/methodology/approach: In the proposed concept two aspects have been considered: quantitative and qualitative results of company’s innovation activity (i) and impact of this results on financial performance of company and its efficiency (ii). Due to the fact, that access to information on innovative activities results of companies is highly diversified, proposed model provides two versions to use: one, more general, based on public sources of data (Public Data Approach) and one, more detailed, based on data which should be collected through survey research (Survey Data Approach). The basis for corporate resultant innovativeness model creation was an assumption, that the ultimate market success of the company is not determined by how many innovative solutions it implements and introduces to the market and with what force it does it, but how these solutions will be accepted by the market and what economic benefits the company will receive due to them. Findings: Proposed methodology of innovativeness assessment gives a chance to eliminate several key shortcomings of the so far used methods and concepts of corporate innovativeness measurement and assessment. Research limitations/implications: Input data accessibility, development of knowledge (rules) bases needed to perform fuzzy inference. Practical implications: Presented model gives an opportunity to assess and compare enterprises in terms of their resultant innovativeness and then to assess the impact of this innovativeness on their performance. Social implications: Assessments generated by presented model can be basis for managerial decisions inside the assessed enterprise or investment decisions of investors in the capital market. Originality/value: Original approach for aggregate corporate resultant innovativeness assessment that eliminates several weaknesses of methods used so far.

Extensive research is being conducted to create and use a wide range of alternative fuels to accommodate the world's growing energy needs. The objective of this experimental investigation was to analyze the effects of Karanja biodiesel blends on the performance, combustion, and emission characteristics of a compression ignition (CI) engine vis-a-vis neat diesel. Important physical parameters of Karanja oil were examined experimentally after transesterification and determined to be within acceptable limits. BTE of Karanja biodiesel blends was about 3-8% lower than diesel. For Karanja biodiesel blends, BSFC was about 2-9% higher than diesel but exhaust gas temperature and volumetric efficiency were lower. Emissions characteristics such as nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide were also analyzed for various tested fuels. Karanja biodiesel blends resulted in lesser CO and HC formation. Nonetheless, NOx emissions were around 10% greater than diesel. Peak cylinder pressure, heat release rate, and maximum rate of pressure rise versus crank angle were among the combustion characteristics parameters considered in this study. Combustion analysis revealed that for Karanja biodiesel blends heat release rate and peak cylinder pressure were lower than for neat diesel. Findings indicate that Karanja biodiesel can be considered a viable diesel engine fuel.

The results of experimental studies of gasoline mixed with 10% bioethanol (E10), bioethanol mixed with 15% gasoline (E85), and hydrogen– oxygen gas (HHO) supplied as an additional fuel are presented in this paper. Research was carried out to determine whether E85 with hydrogen– oxygen gas is feasible for use as a replacement fuel. During the test, a port injection HR16DE spark ignition engine was used. Experiments were carried out at a constant engine speed (n = 2000 rpm), throttle opened at 15°, using a stoichiometric mixture λ = 1.0 and a lean mixture λ = 1.1. After determining brake torque, fuel consumption data, and energy performance, the results of various fuels were determined. It was found that the highest engine brake torque was developed using E85, but at the same time, fuel consumption increased. E85 yielded the best energy efficiency for a lean mixture (λ = 1.1). A small amount of HHO gas (~ 0.95% energy) yielded a small positive effect only on using E10 fuel at λ = 1.1.

The issue of business models is a current and more and more deeply analysed field of scientific research. However, despite the requirements of a solid and comprehensive research approach, capable of capturing the multidimensionality of business models, there is a continuous dissatisfaction with the conducted empirical research in this area. The aim of the article is to present the possibility of using the configurational approach and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fs/QCA) to business models research, which enables to conduct comprehensive, integrated analyses. The research was conducted on the basis of a group of 53 enterprises classified in the high-tech sector. The research provided an insight into the key and auxiliary elements of the selected business models, and the methods of their mutual interaction in the context of the configuration of these elements were monitored, at the same time providing insight into the equifinality of the configuration. The results may form the basis for a deeper discussion on the definition of business models and their core components.

In present study the problem of an alarm systems optimization was presented and the stages of the multicriteria structured optimization method in cost-functional characteristics of the alarm system were also described. The method represents a combination of the proposed reflection and selection schemes in the genetic algorithm that solves the extreme combinatorics problem.
W proponowanym badaniu przedstawiono problem optymalizacji systemów alarmowych oraz zostały opisane etapy metody wielokryterialnej strukturalnej cenowo-funkcjonalnej optymalizacji systemu alarmowego. Metoda stanowi kombinację refleksji i planu wyboru algorytmu genetycznego, który rozwiązuje problem ekstremalnej kombinatoryki.

The new principle of the organisation of working process of the combined supercharging system of transport diesel with the Cascade Pressure Exchanger (CPE) has been described. It allows considerably to raise level of forcing of the engine by supercharging at the expense of expansion of effective air supply area and coolings of supercharging air to temperature below an ambient. Substantive postulates of imitating model of work of combined engine(CICE) have been stated. Some results of calculation-experimental investigations of supercharging system of the engine 6×Í12/14 have been given. It confirms the possibility of the essential improvement tractive and fuel-economic factors of the transport installations in broad range of the working conditions.

Artykuł pokazuje wybrane problemy z opisem procesu coachingowego dokonywanymi w terminach efektywności, wydajności oraz maksymalizacji ludzkiego potencjału. Charakterystyki wartościowe w narracjach marketingowych mogą implikować instrumentalizację klienta. Jako istotowy warunek procesu coachingowego ukazane zostało podejście niedyrektywne oraz samoświadomość.
Presented reflections are intended to clarify the essence of coaching, which is not always properly expounded. The article shows some problems of description coaching in terms of effectiveness, performance and human potential maximizing. Characteristics valuable in marketing point of view may imply reductionism and instrumentalising of coachee. The importance of non-directivity and self-reflexivity has been emphasized as an essential condition in coaching process.

Presented work is primarily oriented on the experimental verification of the influence of fatigue on the psychological condition of the flying personnel, using psychological and performance tests. For the evaluation of a pilot performance, the 24 hours experiment was conducted. In total, eight subjects participated in the experimental measurements. Eight participants went through several tests, including simulator flights, to investigate the effects of the fatigue on the results of psychological measurements. Measurements included workload evaluation, using NASA task load evaluation concept and performance testing, using the so-called OR-test. Significant statistical differences between measurements performed during 24 hours were not found in the case of NASA task load Scores. In the case of OR-test, Friedman ANOVA and subsequent post-hoc analysis show that the greatest decrease in performance was observed in approximately 22 hours of wakefulness, i.e. approximately in half of the measuring process. The concept of 24-hour measurements for the quantification of fatigue is not commonly used yet as well as objectivization using performance testing. As the apparent effect of fatigue is mainly on performance testing results, it can be argued that this work could serve as a basis for further studies on fatigue. Also, it could serve as a support for introducing new pilots' psychological testing procedures in the future, which could contribute to current efforts to improve aviation safety.
