Opis:
This paper focuses on analysis and behavioral modeling of second generation positive and negative current conveyors (CCII+s, CCII‒s), as well current-controlled current conveyors (CCCIIs). On the basis of the proposed CCII+ model improved behavioral models for three-terminal and four-termi-nal monolithic CFOAs are created. The models are developed by using VHDL analog and mixed-signal (VHDL-AMS) language and the descriptions are adapted to the SystemVision (version 5.5) simulation program, which is a part of the Mentor Graphics system. The proposed models simulate static and dynamic para-meters for differential and common-mode input signals at room temperature, including the parameters input offsets, accurate input impedances, non-dominant poles at differential input signals, AC common-mode rejection, PSRR effects, output impe-dances, slew rate limiting and terminal voltage/current operating ranges. The modeling parameters are extracted for commercially available four-terminal CFOA AD844A and CCCII OPA860 by analyzing semiconductor data books or through characterization measurements. For the validation process simulation and experi-mental results for sample electronic circuits are given.

Opis:
Qucs and QucsStudio open source circuit simulators have a wealth of built in swept data features, including facilities for linear and logarithmic scans of simulation variables and for setting component values and device parameters. These simulators also allow semicolon separated lists of numerical values to be used as swept data. This little known feature provides a very flexible mechanism for generating component and device parameter statistical data. An outline of a statistical circuit simulation technique is presented in this paper. The proposed technique can be used with any general purpose circuit simulator equipped with swept data capabilities and as such is suitable for the study of device and circuit performance resulting from variations in device parameters and component values. The operation of the proposed simulation technique is illustrated with the results from an investigation of the statistical performance of a simple MOS current mirror integrated circuit cell, modeled with a speed optimized Verilog-A version of a long channel EPFL_EKV v2.6 MOS transistor model.

Opis:
A high-resolution hold-off time control circuit for Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes (GM-APDs) that enables linear changes to the hold-off time from several nanoseconds to microseconds is presented. The resolution of the hold-off time can be varied from nanoseconds to tens of nanoseconds with a range up to microseconds to cater for a variety of GM-APDs. This circuit allows setting of the optimal 'afterpulse-free' hold-off time for any GM-APD through digital inputs or additional signal processing circuitry. With this circuit, the APD is automatically reset following the end of the hold-off period that further simplifies the end-user's control. A layout of this circuit is designed using a conventional 0.15 μm complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process, resulting a area of 95 μm x 55 μm which makes it suitable for use with APD arrays.

Modern particle accelerators[8] have very strict requirements for controlling signal. To generate signal controlling field in cavities there is a possibility to use digital vector modulator and analog upconverter[6]. Hardware circuit consists of FPGA device, digital to analog converter and low pass filter. For experiments there is also a need to design and develop measurement circuit. Same circuit could be used in final application as diagnostics module. This enables an option for constant long term measurement and fault detection. This paper presents construction of such module.

The Vertical Slit-based Field-Effect Transistor (VeSFET) is a novel junctionless device with two identical, independently controlled gates. The VeSFET, so far prototyped only as single-device test structures, has been considered in the literature exclusively as a component of digital systems. This article shows that the device’s properties make it attractive also for the analog designer. Some of the VeSFET’s analog-design related parameters are compared with those of the MOSFET of the corresponding technology node. Subsequently, a two-stage Miller operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) is proposed that makes use of the VeSFET’s two independently-controlled gates to drastically reduce the common-mode gain. An example application of the OTA in a current mirror is also presented.

A three output microelectronic circuit functionally equivalent to a hydrogen bonding network is modeled. Proton transfer characteristics of each hydrogen bond of the network are emulated by block-elements in the microelectronic circuit with their respective l-V characteristics. These characteristics are coded in Matlab where the dynamic and static analyses are carried out. The results imply that in static mode the functionally analogous circuit operates as a current source or an amplifier. In dynamic mode the circuit behaves as a voltage driven triangular pulse signal source. The simulations show that the generated pulses at the three circuit outputs have different frequency, amplitude, and width.

Opis:
A high percentage of analogue integrated circuit designs use voltage domain signal processing techniques. Given the fact that integrated circuit current conveyors are high bandwidth current processing devices, often with superior RF performance compared to comparable voltage domain devices, it is surprising that the number of current mode integrated circuits available, as standard of-the-shelf industrial items, is so small. This paper introduces equation-defined device and Verilog-A synthesis approaches to the macromodelling of current conveyor integrated circuits. To illustrate the proposed modelling techniques the properties of a number of modular behavioural level current conveyor macromodel cells are described and their performance compared. The material presented is intended for analogue device modellers and circuit designers who wish to simulate large signal current domain integrated circuit designs. It also demonstrates how synthesized Verilog-A modules can be derived from equation-defined device and conventional subcircuits to form functional, computationally efficient current conveyor macromodels. To illustrate the application of behavioural current conveyor macromodels the design of a six cell CCII+ instrumentation amplifier is introduced and its performance discussed.

Opis:
The Verilog-A "Analogue Device Model Synthesizer" (ADMS) has in recent years become an established modelling tool for GNU General Public License circuit simulator development. Qucs and ngspice are two examples of open source circuit simulators that employ ADMS for compact semiconductor model construction. This paper presents a "turn- key" compact device modelling and circuit macromodelling system based on ADMS and implemented in the QucsStudio circuit design, simulation and manufacturing environment. A core feature of the new system is a modelling procedure which does not require users to manually patch, by hand, circuit simulator C++ code. At the start of QucsStudio simulation the software automatically detects any changes in Verilog-A model code, re-compiling and dynamically linking the modified code to the body of the QucsStudio cod e. The inherent flexibility of the "turn-key" system encourage s rapid experimentation with analogue and RF compact device models and circuit macromodels. In this paper QucsStudio "turn-key" modelling is illustrated by the design of a single stage RF amplifier circuit and the Harmonic Balance large signal AC simulation of a 50 Ω RF diode switch.

This paper is concerned with the development and evaluation of a number of modeling techniques which improve Qucs Harmonic Balance simulation performance of RF compact device models. Although Qucs supports conventional SPICE semiconductor device models, whose static current/voltage and dynamic charge characteristics exhibit second and higher order derivatives may not be continuous, there is no guarantee that these will function without Harmonic Balance simulation convergence problems. The same comment also applies to a number of legacy compact semiconductor device models. The modeling of semiconductor devices centered on non-linear Equation-Defined Devices and blocks of Verilog-A code, combined with linear components, is introduced. These form a class of compact macromodel that has improved Harmonic Balance simulation performance. To illustrate the presented modeling techniques RF diode, BJT and MESFET macromodels are described and their Harmonic Balance performance simulated with Qucs and Xyce©.

Opis:
This paper introduces a solution to a design problem caused by necessity of electromagnetic noise reduction in simple close-range wireless command and control systems, including Radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems. Trade-off between simplicity of data transmission, detection and decoding on one side vs. presence of high frequency harmonics in transmitted signals on the other makes some designers choose approach in which trapezoidal waveforms are used instead of rectangular ones. Moreover, edges of trapezoidal waveforms are additionally rounded to further limit presence of higher harmonics and thus to comply to EMI regulations and requirements. The paper proposes a solution based on a reimplementation of a high-voltage structure already proposed by the author, but implemented with use of different semiconductor technology process. Utilization of this new process and devices available in this technology makes possible significant increase of the circuit operation quality.
