Opis:
Coal deposit "Katrishte" located in south-western Bulgaria, Ro = 0.34%, was subjected to geochemical study. By chromatographic and spectral methods, a variety of coal biomarkers in bitumen extract has been revealed. n-Alkane distribution pattern indicated at least two possible sources, lacustrine and terrestrial ones. The aliphatic fraction was strongly dominated by 16a(H)-kaurane and 16a(H)-phyllocladane, a proof for the presence of Pinales in coal-forming palaeoplant community. The kaurane prevalence over phyllocladane could indicate the herbaceous flowering plant contribution. The combination of sesquiterpenoids/diterpenoids pointed to Pinaceae and Araucariceae. As a biomarker assemblage peculiarity, the lack of isoprenoids, tricyclic diterpenoids, and pentacyclic triterpenoids could be indicated. Our data gave us ground to assume existence of bush moor with the presence of herbaceous flowering plants, and subordinate contributions of conifers and sedge-reeds to coal forming plant taxa of "Katrishte"

Opis:
Detrital zircon age of the conglomerates from the Upper Silesian (USB) and Małopolska (MB) (S Poland) have been investigated to compare their deposition age and possible provenience. The size and poor sorting of the lithoclasts reflect a short transportation, with deposition close to the sourceland. The Late Ediacaran conglomerate of the Potrójna IG 1 and Raciechowice 1 boreholes (USB) reveal a good match between the ages known from the local basement explored by boreholes. Detrital zircon clusters in a range of 579-585 Ma and 628-638 Ma and of 707 Ma are consistent with the distributions of Cadomian magmatism within the nearest orogenic belt or those identified elsewhere within the Brunovistulicum. In case of the conglomerate deposited in the Batowice 2 borehole (MB), the zircon clusters of 532, 551, 594 and 649 Ma, accompanied with a pre-Svecofennian group peaked at 2071 Ma, and the lack of Sveconorvegian population may document a tectono-sedimentary interaction between the Baltica's southern margin and the Gondwanan Cadomian and Late Cadomian basement during Early Paleozoic time. This conglomerate bed was deposited later, after the Early Ordovician, then docking of Małopolska Block - Baltica was probably completed.

Opis:
It is likely that the beginnings of geological museology in Poland should be associated with the collecting movement of all kinds of souvenirs and wonders of nature, often referred to as curiosities or antiquity. In 1775, Michal Mniszech proposed the creation of a national museum (Museum Polonicum). The article mentions all significant collectors of geological exhibits, including Anna Jabłonowska as one of the main figures in the beginnings of museology in Poland. The so-called public and academic and some school collections are described. The article also pays attention to social initiatives regarding financing of natural museums, including geological ones.

Opis:
The paper presents results of pollen analysis of organic sediments from the site Katowice 2. Six local pollen assemblage zones identified in the section represent the youngest part of Mazovian Interglacial. The pollen spectra of the basal part of the section display some changes indicative of intra-interglacial cooling, well recorded in many profiles of this interglacial in Poland. The forest landscape was subsequently dominated by hornbeam-fir communities which were replaced later by those of pine forests. In turn, taxa of thermophilous aquatic plants, represented by pollen Trapa and microsporangia Azolla filiculoides and Salvinia evidence of lacustrine environment. The results of pollen analysis of sediments from the Katowice site and those hitherto obtained from some other localities in western and central part of the Polish Uplands (Malice, Raków, Wielki Bór, Konieczki i Białe Ługi) became the basis for distinguishing seven regional pollen zones for this area. As compared to pollen succession from Podlasie and eastern Poland, the most significant differences concern the course of pollen curves of Carpinus and Abies and the sequence of their pollen culmination.
