Opis:
Commission on Mineral Resources, active for 70 years, was erected in 1951 as a “governmental body for approval of mineral resources evaluations”. The fields of their interest are: checking geological reports on mineral resources and related to mineral resources management, presentation of legal acts proposals related to mineral resources and opinions on such acts, participation in mineral policy formulation, and promotion of“ good practice” in exploration and reporting of mineral resources. The mode and rules of mineral resources reporting developed in 1952 are used up to date with minor corrections. It was formulated prior to the comparable JORC Code and PRMS introduced at the end of the 20th century. Their presentation as a legal act restrained innovative approaches. Since 1991, previous“ instructions” have been replaced by general exigencies presented in the ordonnance of the Ministry of Environment on mineral resources reporting and by published guidelines for preparation of related reports. During the period of “central planned economy” the approval of a geological report with presented resources data was the base for a mining investment decision based on evaluation of economically recoverable “balance resources”. After 1990, the delimitation of mineral resources was introduced based on mining experience, followed by reserves evaluation. At the beginning of Commission activity, it was responsible for evaluation of demands for mineral commodities mining development. The Commission has presented also numerous opinions and suggestions on governmental mineral policy, improvement of mineral resources selfguarding and reasonable recovery. The important activity of the Commission is promotion of“ good practice” in exploration and resources reporting by organizing yearly “Seminars”. Still existing problems are: more close correlation of geological data and mineral resources reporting with mine planning, management and exploitation exigencies, as well as evaluation of accuracy of mineral exploration results and resources data. The new challenges are mineral resources reporting in the framework of “circular economy” and waste-less production, and final harmonization of the Polish rules of resources reporting with international exigencies.

Opis:
The dolomites altered to dolomite-illitic rocks were foundac companying marcasite-pyrite-hematite mineralization within the Middle Devonian carbonate rocks in the eastern part of the Holy Cross Mts. (Poland) in the fault zones and their close vicinity. The alteration consist of dolomite recrystallization and replacement by illite, accompanied by small amounts of sillca, K-feldspars and disseminated pyrite or hematite. The final product of dolomite replacement by illite are massive, dolotmite-illitic rocks unevenly distributed within the unaltered dolomites or in fault breccia. They form irregular metric-sized nest-like bodies most often with blurred boundaries, or in some places sharp delineated veins and lenses. Illite crystallinity, demonstrates its hydrothermal origin. Altered rocks are characterized by elevated contents of REE, Rb, and sometimes other trace metal (Zr, Ti, Zn, U, Th, Ba and al.), compared to unaltered dolomites. The enrichment in REE, Zr and Ti implies their mobility in hydrothermal solutions. The lamprophyre intrusions present in the close vicinity may be considered as the probable source of potassium rich hydrothermal fluids. The peculiar features of dolomite-illitic rocks such as: their composition and occurrence close to the sulphide and hematite mineralization, allow supposing, that they may be a guide to deeply seated unknown ore deposits.

Opis:
The ongoing discussions on the importance and location of geology in the administrative structure of the country and its relationship with other branches of the economy prompt to determine the function of the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute as the Polish Geological Survey (PGS). The aim of all these discussions is to optimize activities related to the preparation and implementation of the national mineral policy. These activities are part of the spectrum of tasks of the Polish Geological Institute established 100 years ago, which successfully fulfilled the duties of the geological survey throughout this time, significantly contributing to the development of the national resource base and serving the public with its specialist knowledge. The broad and interdisciplinary scope of the national mineral policy requires the inter-branch cooperation. Therefore, the authors propose that the Polish Geological Survey should consist of a Geological Council, whose task would be to give opinions on the proposals and indicate the direction of geological work, and the Polish Geological Institute, which fulfils an executive role as a geological survey. The article presents the main tasks of the PGS, its main organizational units and sources of financing, which provide stable implementation of tasks. For each of the distinguished units (geological cartography and regional geology, hydrogeology, engineering geology and geohazards, geology ofmineral deposits and economic geology, environmental geology, geoinformatics, archiving and dissemination of geological information), a framework scope of tasks is presented. The dominant role in geological research should be played by applied geology research that aims to identify geological phenomena and processes in order to use information about them in practical activity. The effective implementation of these various tasks, which are typical of modern geological surveys, requires scientific and research facilities, as well as the possibility of using modern research and technical equipment. These standards are fully met by the Polish Geological Institute as the Polish Geological Survey and a scientific and research institution.

Opis:
Many coal seams of varied thickness and aerial extent occur in the Upper Silesia and Lublin basins within Mississippian and Pennsylvanian coal-bearing deposits. Well-documented data on coal quantity in the seams identified allows visualization of their variation within the stratigraphic succession and analysis of the time-dependent coal accumulation process. Some characteristic features of this variation were observed. Coal seams of the Mississippian age (Serpukhovian, Paralic Series), formed within a near-shore environment, most often constitute small resources. There were only two intervals of increased coal accumulation in seams of >100 million tons, in the lower and uppermost parts of the Paralic Series. Within the Pennsylvanian coal-bearing succession of terrestrial fluvio-lacustrine origin, a specific, wave-like pattern of seam resource variations and four intervals of increased coal accumulation are observed. In the Lublin Coal Basin, the Lublin Beds only, deposited during the Late Bashkirian, are coal-bearing, in which a bell-shaped pattern of seam resource variation in the stratigraphic succession is observed. The location of enhanced coal accumulation events in the stratigraphic succession suggests their repetition at ~1–4 My intervals. The characteristic features of the quantitative variation in these coal seams may be correlated with glacial-interglacial and climate humidity changes, and interpreted as a response to variable volcanogenic CO2 supply.
